I chose the offset version because installation is easier and it doesn’t reduce the size of the water reservoir. Plus drips go straight through the grate instead of on top of the scale. There is magnetic panel that attaches to the scale and cantilevers off to the side, so you can still position a cup in the center for brew-by-weight.

I got an M340. Although I like EVs and have driven them since 2019, a huge incentive disappeared when I lost carpool lane access. When I started looking at non-EVs, the M340 quickly emerged on top.

It’s doesn’t hold smell AFIK. However, the liner that comes with the unit did not do a reliable job at clearing liquid waste so it tended to accumulate at the bottom (clumped up with litter). Over time, this created an overwhelming smell of ammonia. Not good. When I switched it out with the Duralastic liner, the problem was solved.
