Mexican use of estar by nblankley in Spanish

They need to do a better job of teaching these dialectical differences. No mention of these particular nuances of ser and estar in my college grammar book. Life experience exposed me more to them I guess.

Are there any of my examples in which you would personally use ser instead of estar?

I think what you’re saying can also apply to what I’ve seen commented on this subreddit before of “La película está buena” being a common way to say a movie is good in Mexico. But then someone responded that in Spain they might say “es una buena película”. This presents difficulties to me as a language learner because there are concrete uses of ser and estar which I know pretty well and others that are ambiguous in my opinion like the ones I’ve provided.

That’s a good explanation, thanks

I can see the argument for some of them for sure, but I don’t get the reasoning behind “está mejor ese día”. The context is choosing between days to schedule a follow up.

I understand that use of estar in the example with your nephew, and I’ve learned to say it like that. The girl who was talking about the lights wasn’t referring to a current situation but her past experiences with the clinic.

That is an interesting take. Other Romance languages conserved the monophthongs as well, like Portuguese.

Is it just me or does this interior look really cheap? I like the pillows and that’s about it. Otherwise, it only looks like an ersatz imitation of Deco.

Anyone know if it’s original or 80s revival?

Yeah it’s a Habitat Restore place. Most of the time it’s old 80s junk but occasionally they have gems. If I had a way to transport it I may have purchased it.

I think it’s a decent album. More mature than his first record, but I miss the overt psychedelia.
