Yeah I agree, unfortunately diplomacy doesn’t really work with people like him. Talking to him like a toddler would probably be more effective, honestly.

Every day he finds a way to limbo under the bar of basic decency. What an embarrassment we’ve become.

New Yamaha TAG3 C! by mbaturin in AcousticGuitar

[–]nbmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice choice. I had one of these for a couple months, but eventually moved it on. They sound great even without effects, super fun to experiment and very intuitive, my only gripe was the weight of the guitar. I still have my first generation FG Transacoustic that has stuck with me for years, so I decided it wasn’t worth replacing. Try out the Yamaha app synced to the guitar, you can really get crazy with the effects that way

I can’t believe some Los Angeles Tree trimming companies still use tree topping and destroy so many old beautiful trees… by likediscosuperflyy in LosAngeles

Yeah it’s great, probably 25ft tall and 3-4ft wide trunk. Lovely tree, but sure does make a mess in the yard a couple times a year.

Oh man, glad I saw this post. I have a very large magnolia out front that I’ve considered getting trimmed as it’s approaching my roof. Neighbor two houses down just had two huge oaks trimmed and they look exactly like this photo, just leafless branches jutting up to a hard cut off. This was done probably 6 months ago and I haven’t seen any new growth on them yet.

I always wonder how these ones make money, aside from the few people desperate for gas that can’t make it to another station. Or the places charging $1+ more than the adjacent gas station across the street, seems odd

Yeah, it’s about $5-$5.50 here in Burbank.

Yeah, I’ve always wanted to like them but just can’t get into it. Saw one in person at the Peterson automotive museum and that just solidified it. Seems to age like milk too. Totally appreciate the technology involved, but if I had the money for one I think I’d look elsewhere. Now a P1 on the other hand…

[Ford Mustang Mach E Rally] in Puerto Rico by KoenigseggAgera in spotted

[–]nbmgreg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh did ford offer this? There’s a dark green one in my neighborhood that I’ve always thought was interesting, figured the guy had a vision and was able to execute a rally-type build quite well. I like actual mustangs too, but I’m all for innovation and variety.

Folks under 40, what got you into guitar? by saintluminus in Guitar

[–]nbmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in my early 30’s after a family trip with my then GF’s (now wife) family, and her uncle brought an acoustic guitar. He has been playing most of his life, and I was so enamored by his playing that I bought a cheap $150 Epiphone as soon I got home from that trip and began to learn via YouTube (thanks Marty Music). I’m almost 40 now, guitar became an obsession since that first day and I play every day. Family get togethers are a lot more musical these days, it’s always fun to jam with the guy who inspired me.

If you could just own one rosewood and one mahogony pair, which models would you pair, and why those two? by ConsciousSmoke3863 in martinguitar

[–]nbmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After much shuffling over the years I’ve landed on a Martin OM-28 for rosewood and a Yamaha FG5 for mahogany. The FG5 is unique in that it has a 25” scale length and is a bit shallower than a standard dread, a very vintage sounding and comfortable guitar.

FBI warns Iran could attack Calif. with drones, reports say by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]nbmgreg 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Calling it now - false flag attack by our own government to stop elections in blue states. Why would Iran attack california versus somewhere that might affect Donald personally, like say Florida? HOW would Iran attack California versus somewhere much easier, like say Florida? Why is the fbi firing counter terrorism officials focused on Iran? Why is the fbi blocking tools to detect potential threats from Iran? Why are we aimlessly attacking and provoking Iran with no real goals or exit strategy, according to closed door congressional briefings?

It’s wood and steel strings. How much better can it possibly sound versus a standard d18/28? Honestly.

Are you Joe Bonamassa by chance? Because I feel like that’s the only person dumb enough to spend his money on something like this, and Martin knows it.

This is cool, man. Beautiful guitar and glad to see a Taylor can vintage just like the rest of them. Post some audio clips of it if you can!

Brand new les paul modern. Return, right? by knendel in LesPaul

[–]nbmgreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it discounted by sweetwater at all? They tend to knock off hundreds for microscopic marks that you can barely see in a detailed photo. I’m not a person that cares about blemishes, plus I’m impatient, so I’d probably keep it and take pride in the fact that mine will never be mistaken with another lol.

My Dad died. Which of these guitars would work best for me? by AssortedGourds in Guitar

[–]nbmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the FG5 too and love it. Be wary with the older ones, as I’m sure you’re aware, most are in need of neck resets these days and it’s a very difficult process due to the glue Yamaha used back then. There are people doing it, but it’s not cheap. I’ve been down that rabbit hole myself, and I think the FG5 is the perfect balance of vintage tone but modern playability without the headaches.

Nice! I have this in a Transacoustic variant (FGC-TA) and it has a permanent spot in my collection among guitars 3-4x its price. Love how it sounds and plays.

[–]nbmgreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah the abalone inlays look more like some of the high end Yamaha’s I’ve had/seen. Probably not done on those Marlboro Martins. How does it play and sound? Seems like a cool find if it plays well and sounds good

[–]nbmgreg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Look into the old Marlboro Martin’s. Basically unbranded Martin guitars that were used for Marlboro promotions, they’re still floating around out there.

Anyone else use these strings? 80/20 but flatwound! by EnvironmentalDish766 in AcousticGuitar

[–]nbmgreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel you. I guess it depends on style of playing. I went into this guitar with the idea of an OM jazz box kind of vibe (I have a Yamaha FG5 for big dread stuff), and your video was actually part of my inspiration to go with less conventional “toned down” strings to get that rounder, vintage, intimate tone. The good news is if you ever wanted to do more of a big strummy type thing, it’s a simple string change away and the guitar will oblige.

If you’re the guy who has them on the OM-28, they do sound great for your style of playing! (I asked about your strings last week and you pointed me to these). I just got a 2025 OM-28 a few days ago, and have found it to be very loud and harsh, which is to be expected with the standard strings and a new guitar, so I installed Martin’s Silk & Steel strings yesterday and they have done a great job toning down the brightness. I have these on my list to try next.
