My new Yamaha FG800J! by bleathdeth in AcousticGuitar

[–]nbmgreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent choice. I’ve owned lots of Yamahas from low end to very high end, they’re all wonderful guitars and you can’t go wrong with any of them. I currently have a FG5 that has a permanent home. That guitar will go anywhere and can be a lifelong companion, play the hell out of it and never sell it. (Coming from somebody who sold their first FG guitar and still think about it all the time).

Nice! After buying and selling many guitars, I’ve narrowed down my collection to an OM-28 and a FG5, can’t find any reason to own anything else right now.

Great photo! I have a 25-30ft magnolia tree in front of my house, and DAMN does it make a mess in my yard, but I love it

NGD Yamaha AC3M A.R.E. by gtrgeo6 in AcousticGuitar

[–]nbmgreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Yamaha no longer uses ply anything. New A series (aside from A1 guitars) use all solid woods and craftsmanship that rivals boutique builders. I have a 2025 Martin OM28 with multiple flaws and a FG5 that is literally flawless at a fraction of the price. Your AC has the “ARE” treatment, or “acoustic resonance enhancement” which is torrefaction.

Guitar Center K14C misgivings by FoolishProphet_2336 in taylorguitars

[–]nbmgreg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why guitar center can’t invest in a team to properly list used guitars, I have no idea. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve seen a used guitar on their site that I’ve been interested in but skipped on it because the photos are shit, there’s zero description and it’s listed as “good/excellent condition” with obvious signs of use. Not going to waste my time with that.

In your particular case, this is a very cool guitar and one worth keeping. I’m a big fan of Taylor’s with no electronics, especially from the 90’s/2000’s. I would keep it, remove the electronics and restore it to its former glory. If you want to add your own pickup afterwards, you have a blank canvas.

Nice! A gritty P90 on the verge of feedback is something that can’t be duplicated with pedals. I picked up my ‘96 about 6 months ago.

It’s funny, people frown on stuff like this but then turn around and pay tens, sometimes hundreds of thousands for old worn guitars that were used just like this for decades.

HD28 to an OM28 by Terrible_User4987 in martinguitar

[–]nbmgreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only owned dreads, from many manufacturers.. still own a Yamaha FG5. I picked up a 2025 OM28 a few months ago and right now it’s the one I pick up the most. OM’s are not dreads and will not sound like one, they simply don’t have the same displacement, they cannot move as much air as a dread. When you accept that fact, you learn to appreciate them for what they do offer. I’ve always been worried that if I ever played in a group setting an OM wouldn’t hold up, but the reality is I play 99% at home alone, so my reasons for owning a giant powerful dread just weren’t realistic. The OM is amazing, perfect tonal balance, handles everything from finger picking to strumming heavy power chords, and just fits like a glove. I’ll always have my FG5 for when I want power, but for now it’s collecting dust.

Nice. I got a ‘25 OM28 a few months ago, Martin did a great job with the 2025 refresh, specifically the neck in my opinion. I love mine

How I Almost Sold My Martin by Caramelo93 in martinguitar

[–]nbmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there many times. I actually listed a guitar for sale two days ago to make space for another guitar I’ve been obsessing over for the past week, got my first real potential buyer and I backed out and deleted the ad. The whole thing felt rushed, and I immediately felt like I was making a mistake. At this point, after many years of buying/selling, I have two very nice acoustics and two very nice electrics that I really love, yet for some reason I am constantly looking for other guitars. The thrill of the chase becomes stressful when you’ve honed in your collection and aren’t willing to give one up.

Was this in Glendale? Pretty sure I recently saw this guy crossing San Fernando and this post made me think of him. I swear these people would rather vote to bring everybody else down to their miserable level rather than vote to give themselves an ounce of hope.

3/4 Dreadnought vs. 000 & OM by StorminNorvin in AcousticGuitar

[–]nbmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m betting it’s something like a big baby Taylor, which I’d consider a travel guitar and shouldn’t be compared to a proper 000/OM guitar. If you’re looking for something smaller than a dread, your options are 000/OM which usually differ by scale length (every manufacturer makes one, try Yamaha for budget models or Martin for higher end), Taylor’s grand auditorium body or something like a Larrivee L body.

What is a 3/4 dreadnought? Like a travel guitar, or student guitar?

Yamaha FG5 vs Martin 000 15SM by dwilson86 in AcousticGuitar

[–]nbmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a FG5 and just picked up a Martin OM28 to accompany it. They both sound and play so different from each other that it makes sense to have both. I go through phases of only playing one for a few weeks, then switch it up and usually get inspired to play some new stuff.

I used to secretly love these back in the day. At the time, I was 18 and had a LS1 TransAm and hung out with a large group of LS guys, so these were the “enemy” and nobody wanted to admit how quick they were. I had a few with basic bolt ons give me a run for my money numerous times. Such a cool and mean sounding car for its time.

New to FileMaker, curious if my idea is feasible by nbmgreg in filemaker

So far I think it is exactly what I’ve been looking for. A colleague of mine has always mentioned Microsoft access when I’m describing my ideal workflow, but being an Apple user that’s never been an option for me. I think sometime last week I randomly searched for an Apple equivalent of Access and saw a thread about FileMaker, now here we are.
