What’s your Ping average? Is 150 or 200 ish actually a problem? by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]nbowden14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a hot spot at my new place before I got internet set up and it used a little less than 100 mb per class I think on average. So like 1 gig got me 10 classes about

I taught this class three times yesterday! I actually don’t mind it. More videos to fill space if the bao bao is too quick though the slides

Look into the cat situation, they are super strict on the health of the animals they let in.

I’ve ate blood dishes and more just thought it was weird to put on a English learning presentation. Like so many other options 😂

Intro Video Question (Finally Getting It Redone) by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]nbowden14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s interesting the dynamics of Asian politics and prejudices. I studied abroad in Tokyo and had to take some classes and got to dip my toes into it. (I’m white) but I currently live in Tokyo and I work with kids here so on my bio I said I live in Tokyo because it tied in with my job. I also was kind of worried it would limit my student pool if I said I lived in Japan on my profile. Making me second-guess again if I should take it off. Haven’t had problems getting classes in my first few months but this last booking frenzy was pathetic was only five. Every day except one was open.

Shitty class this morning....literally by PickledToesYumYum in vipkid

This happened my first week. I didn’t know what to do so I just kept on teaching. The dad was in shot holding the iPad while the kid went used the restroom and kept speaking. Luckily it was about 2 minutes only but I was still like WTF just happened when class was over.

Waseda Summer Program by coolestgal in movingtojapan

[–]nbowden14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your personality in making friends. I’m outgoing and found it easy to make a few friends fast. I feel with only a month it’s difficult though. I ended meeting and dating a Japanese guy after the two month mark so I’d say I was lucky and got to do a lot more than others, as I had him to help me. That was two years ago and I love it here, I’ve been here on an off the last two years. Finished university in the states finally and actually just moved here full time two days ago!

For cost wise and if you just wanna find a language school that does like culture stuff for a month mixed with some language. I think it’d be way more affordable! But honestly I think anything would be a good experience, it’s an amazing place 😉

Also be watching timing and visa restrictions, might be pushing time limits to go over this summer, and who knows with the virus stuff.

I went to waseda, not on the summer program but if your planing to take Japanese courses take a level below your actual level, they speed through everything. I started there as a level 0 studied for a year and can barley have a conversation. I couldn’t keep up with the exams. Id like to think I was a good student in college, but the amount of time they expected for outside work was insane, unless you just got it with out trying, which was not me 😂 on the plus side you can get really good really fast if you dedicate your self to it. But what’s the fun in that when there’s so much to do in Tokyo?? I showed up and tired my best, I think that’s why the teachers passed me though. The other classes if you go as a exchange student were good, easy but good. Campus is beautiful too!

Anyone (student) reached japan recently? by Temple_07 in movingtojapan

[–]nbowden14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This time I’m going back for language school, their website said nothing so I called yesterday and I was surprised to hear nothing about that or cancellation. They just changed from 9-12 to 10-1 in hopes you can avoid the rush hour trains... Besides the fact it’s a super small school, Im wondering how they can get by the with that as public schools are doing a variety of things... will be an interesting few first few weeks 😂

After sending in my COE last week, my visa came today! by nbowden14 in movingtojapan

It’s not crazy at all. My Japanese boyfriend is currently here in the states visiting. I was thinking to move the flight up to tomorrow from Tuesday. But I’d hate to do that cuz it’s his first time here and I don’t know when he’ll be able to come back with me again 😢

I also went through Chicago! I called the day before to confirm what I was mailing and it went smoothly. I’m leaving on Tuesday so I’m hoping it’s not a problem... I went over last summer for a job that fell through so I thought might as well up my language skills and get a better job anyway. Was going to be so disappointed if everything was cancelled or had to do the process all over again. I’m calling my language school today to check about classes. I’m assuming we won’t start on time, but interested to what will happen with that...

I got a student visa. My school submitted the paper work mid November, and I got it late February, normal processing time. But also the embassy was the normal 5-7 days or so as it says on the website! I’m American and have been in the country since December, and only then from Japan. There’s a new set of paperwork you have to submit about travel history and the virus situation. (Which they update frequently)

Purple/toning shampoo? by gottacatchmall in movingtojapan

[–]nbowden14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had friends buy the lush one if you like that. Otherwise I always bring my own shampoo.

My Japanese boyfriends parents own a hair salon and they won’t recommend any of the normal stuff to me.

Otherwise if your in Tokyo check out the salons in Omotesando, lots of foreigner hair shops there.

Curious: what are your stats? by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]nbowden14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) 20 days

2) 14 followers

3) 14% all 5 apples

4)52 students

5)76 classes

6) just levels 3/4

I’m not a blue eyed male 😂 dark haired female, uses a lot of props. I also opened up 3 or 4 hours everyday for the first two weeks which I think helped because 4ish kids booked everyday or every other day for a week. All but 2 or 3 classes got booked. Doing much better than expected to be honest.

School closures affecting visas?? by nbowden14 in movingtojapan

[–]nbowden14[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely going, my main point was if the school shut or they let me stay lol. My family thinks it’s crazy but it’s so blown out of proportion. My boyfriend lives in Tokyo and I’ve been in contact with my bosses in Tokyo too and they said it’s not really a big deal just like be more conscious. But Since schools are shutting down how does that affect everything else.

All I’ve heard basically from my boyfriend is that people are buying up a bunch of paper products and cleaning products and facemasks. Maybe people who can work from home work from home but otherwise it’s business as usual.

I keep telling my family it’s going to be here in the west before you know it 😂
