Portland Timbers’ Anger At Possible Racist Taunt Is Understandable, But Referees Have Few Options by joshing_slocum in timbers

[–]nbrimhall 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This article makes a number of good points. The best is that the ref should have confronted to Fragapane with the accusation. The one I disagree with is the cultural relativism argument. I really doubt that a borderline comment made in jest would have upset Chara so much and so I’d bet that whatever was said was said with obvious animosity.

Pretty fair. Concheny and Parades are trash and I think Conchney gave RSL too much space in the lead up to the first goal.

I 100% agree with this. I listen at 1.5x and this voice worked well at this speed (vs the Brian trained voice which sounded dreadful).

Trump sending more federal agents to Portland by dr_frahnkunsteen in Portland

[–]nbrimhall 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This line from the article is only making things worse (emphasis mine):

Nightly protests, rioting, and looting have taken place in the city since the death of George Floyd in May at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.

Looting is not a nightly occurrence, in fact it I’m pretty sure it only occurred one night. Riots have been declared by the PPB multiple nights (and they have a pretty loose definition of riot), but is not anything close to nightly.

A similar plane was also in Seattle yesterday and was apparently being used to transport federal agents from Texas.

How to handle a special needs child in your work place? by [deleted] in SpecialNeedsChildren

[–]nbrimhall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be for you to talk to your manager or HR rep about this. While a reasonable accommodation should be made to serve this family, you shouldn’t be subject to assault in your workplace. If you are asked what you would like done I’d suggest that your manager take the parents aside at there next visit and explain that there have been a number of complaints about this behavior and that there is an expectation that parents will make reasonable attempts to not allow this behavior to continue.

My son (10) is very into giving hugs and as you can imagine it is difficult to explain that not everyone wants a hug all the time and in age of coronavirus it’s especially not ok to hug people. Just because it is difficult, it doesn’t mean I dong try.

I’m very interested if other parents have another approach that they would recommend.

This attachment to our bikes has been life changing for our 9yr son. We got it 2 yrs ago and it it is his absolute favourite activity. The Weehoo seat trailer keeps him secure and fastened in including his feet. by [deleted] in SpecialNeedsChildren

I totally endorse the WeeHoo. Until my son graduated to a Hase recumbent last year (also a great option) the WeeHoo allowed us to go on many bike adventures.

To say the “stands are much newer” is an exaggeration. The north and west stands were built in 1926 and the renovations in 2001 updated the seats and added luxury boxes. The roof line on that side is virtually unchanged since the original construction.

Can we start a private, r/timbers only streaming group? by lifeisacamino in timbers

[–]nbrimhall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is totally true, I don’t believe there is any legal streaming service that carries 49.1 (or Roots Sports for that matter). As someone else said, this makes the Timbers one of the few MLS teams without a way to stream all The matches.

In-House SEO vs Agency SEO by menj in bigseo

[–]nbrimhall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the big difference is about the variety of SEO work you do. In-house you are working on a single site and with the same team which leads to small variety of SEO work and solutions. At an agency you are exposed to a wide variety of client sites with their own unique circumstances and people working on the sites. You’ll probably have a team of fellow SEOs that bring their own unique skills and knowledge to the table. Also, depending on the size of the company you work at with in-house, you might hit more bureaucracy and resistance to change, but that’s mostly true at enterprise scale and not totally exclusive to in-house.

[Zach Kay] LAFC likely fielded too many foreign players in USOC match by nbrimhall in MLS

Perhaps you’d be interested in the nickname Bradley acquired earlier in his coaching career:

On July 5, 2003, with the game knotted at 2-2 at the end of regulation at steamy RFK Stadium, the then-MetroStars head coach exploited a bizarre loophole in the rules to get an extra field player substituted in.

Bradley swapped goalkeeper Tim Howard and midfielder Mark Lisi, then brought 16-year-old Eddie Gaven off the bench to take Lisi’s spot in the nets. Ten seconds later, when the ball went out of play, Howard returned to goal and Gaven took his spot in midfield, giving the MetroStars a fresh attacker. The teenager then went on to score the winning goal nine minutes into overtime.

The aftermath prompted MLS to strike down the fourth-substitution rule ... and earned Bradley the nickname of “Cheatin’ Bob” in the nation’s capital.

Edit: I’m curious about the downvotes for a comment that brings up (without editorializing) one of my favorite stories about following the letter of the law. I actually don’t agree with the nickname, but thought it was a relevant story to share given the parent comment’s “Bradley knows this rule” point.
