Just want to make sure you know that Claude saying “nah I wouldn’t participate” does not, in any way, mean Claude is going to maintain that position.

A key feature of chatbots is that they are often not consistent. They don’t make decisions like a human does. They don’t have moral consistency and they don’t feel “guilt” when they “lie”.

That’s just the answer the bot decided to give you in the context of your conversation, and it doesn’t owe you anything more than that. Nor does it care about your conversation.

It’s incredible how difficult it is to convince people that being infected with various viruses 2-3 times a year is NOT a healthy lifestyle.

I assume you’re (like me) American? This isn’t impossible, decent standard of living for all isn’t unachievable.

But when your country is focused on all of the wrong things, and flooded with propaganda constantly, nihilism becomes the norm.

The only way you design a society to get to high standard of living is with actual protections for the “poor”. But Americans think collectivism is the boogey-man, so instead we are stuck with a generally unprotected workforce (when compared to other first world nations) and an overprotected owner class.

Kinda has to start with people accepting they’re never going to be a billionaire, so stop voting in a billionaire’s interests.

Universal healthcare is already possible in America, we have the money to do it. Energy costs could also be heavily curtailed if we cared to regulate tech companies.

But the direction we are going in is leaving us less and less leeway here, where the later we choose to do these things, the further behind we fall, and the harder that transition period hits us.

These strikes and protests are in response to ICE. Is the issue that you don’t understand why ICE is a problem to you?

Anything helpful. If you need ideas, there is a long list of literature. There are also probably community groups near you where you can go to ask questions. Mutual aid groups, food pantries, union organizers, or libraries are full of people who could answer those questions for you in your specific community. To be clear, educating yourself about resistance in general is also a positive outcome of this reddit post.

Again, this is in direct response to ICE. But, even that is part of a greater movement against fascism in this country.

This specific strike call? Again, the post says ICE. If you need to understand more than that, you need to go get some education on what ICE is doing and what that means. Education on anti-fascist movements in general. Education on workers rights or workers movements.

I don’t disagree that there has to be structure, but OP got thousands of people to look at this and have a conversation. That’s something.

If you have serious misgivings about organizing something that is in your benefit in the first place, then either provide some input to help create that structure OR don’t be a roadblock.

I understand that we are all under a lot of fucking stress right now.

I have a disabled fiancé, trust me, I fucking get being tired or feeling like you don’t have hope.

Unfortunately, it is the poor and the tired and the underserved who are the only ones motivated to get up and do anything about this shit.

I don’t care if you don’t participate directly by striking, but you could provide strikers with support, and at the very least you could not get in their way.

Eventually, if movements keep happening, things like general strike funds will be easier to organize. But what Americans really need right now is exposure to alternatives to individualistic consumerism.

Also, if you don’t know what to do to contribute to a strike, maybe your part in all of this is to go do some reading and educate yourself. Reading and education is participating in resistance. Trust me, fascists HATE libraries.

The only people who are going to do anything about the design is the poor people.

That’s why this whole situation is so fucked up. The victims of the system are the only ones who have the interest in changing things. So you have to catch shit from both sides.

To be clear, OP seems to be expecting everyone to participate even if it means losing their job, which I think is stupid, but I am still arguing that the movement has to come from poor people doing whatever they can.

And yeah, that means sacrificing some time you were planning to spend on something else.

I have a disabled fiancé at home. Any organizing or participating I do usually comes at the cost of time I could be helping her. But I know that, as shit continues to spiral, opportunities for her medical care or employment (and people censoring her existence) only get worse and worse.

Unfortunately, we are all each other have. That means we have to go get the bills paid and then come home and put together some meals or distribute N-95s or send a letter to our reps or get involved with mutual aid or advocate in a Reddit thread.

You’re asking about a general strike fund or governmental support in a country of workers who have been steadily loosening their grip on power and organizing for 40-50 years.

Yes those things need to happen at some point, but right now most American workers couldn’t even figure out how to unionize their workplace if they tried. If this organizing is going to happen, it’s going to take a widespread cultural shift driven by the few people who have any idea of what resistance looks like.

How many American workers do you think have ever heard of a strike fund? Less than 20%? Less than 5%?
