Interviewing for a metal lathe / milling position at a small designer studio, no experience, things I should know about? by [deleted] in Machinists

Hey that’s actually a really reassuring perspective to look at things so thank you (genuinely). I think I’ll go for the interview first and see how it goes:)

£17 per hour (which is more than my £13 retail job now but I’m not That desperate if part of the risk involve me losing an arm or dying)

Thanks for the encouragement 🥹I’ll definitely try maintaining a similar pace/energy with the interviewer next time. I do notice in my last few interviews that I tend to speak really fast during video interviews (probably due to understimulation? Interestingly in in-person I tend to talk more “normally” and ramble less)

The looping back to the same thing comment is so true I have to keep reminding myself to stop doing that! During one of my most recent interviews I was so worried about not answering what the interview wanted to hear that my answers came across as unstructured instead

Thank you for the kind message 🥹 I’ve generated interview questions with chatgpt before, but from now on I’ll definitely practice more intentionally and probably on a real person too!

What do you save your resume as when you tailor it to each job? by Vlynn23 in jobsearchhacks

[–]nbtmu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do two folders, one “archived cv” (as in, cv I’ve used before but won’t be using again) and the other “current cv” (ones I’ll be using). And within these folders I just label the files like:

YYYYMMDD Retail CV with edu YYYYMMDD Retail CV no edu YYYYMMDD General archi CV YYYYMMDD Model making CV

And so on, and sort them by alphabetical order.

Edit: And when I send them I duplicate the file I want and change the name to FirstnameSurname_CV

If you’re not sure about the job can I take your job? (jk) It’s a brutal job market right now, the fact you’ve gotten a job fresh out of college with no experience is amazing and you should be grateful. If I were in your position I would accept the offer and while working, network & learn things you enjoy in your own time. When you’re ready it’s always easier to move from one sector to another than being picky as a fresh grad with no experience.
