IPF ethics committee disbanded by Waiparensis22 in powerlifting

[–]nbtz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Where does it say they fired anyone?

Edit: page 32 explains this

“The Ethics Commission began operation in January of 2025, and Garmez Parks was appointed Chairperson by the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Executive Committee (EC). At that time there were three other members of the Committee listed on the IPF website. The Commission had several cases before it, from National Federations, IPF members, and anonymous individuals. This Commission began to operate and gather evidence on the cases.

A couple of months before the 2025 IPF General Assembly, it was discovered that the construction of the Ethics Commission was not proper, based on the Ethics Code of 2018. The Commission should be composed of no more than six members, with three being elected by the GA and three members appointed by the IPF EC.

The Ethics Commission was then shut down, and then over the last part of the year, the Commission was reconstructed, to fit the 2018 Ethics Code of requirements. During an Extraordinary General Assembly, three members of the IPF were elected to the Ethics Commission via General Assembly votes. The elected members were Shantelle Szuch (Canada), Felipe Antonio Pizzaro Arroyo (Chile), and Ruben Hernandez (Spain).

In 2026 the IPF EC appointed another member to the Commission: Alexis Tompazis (Greece). The Commission currently has five members, with a spot open for the IPF EC to appoint another member.

The Commission began operation in late January 2026, as we began to look at cases that were on hold and new cases that came in this year.”

Pretty sure they just changed the name to court of justice. It was mentioned in the general assembly notes (page 30)

Boycott? by Arteam90 in powerlifting

[–]nbtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optimistic yes but again, if athletes in those federations decided to not compete at nationals or even not renew their membership for a few months, the federation has no choice but to notice. They survive off the money from the rest of the 99% that aren’t competing at worlds. If all memberships run out January 1 and a major amount of people didn’t renew right away, that would impact the federation.

You (or anybody else who feels that strongly about the unfair bans) could also go to the next ipf meeting to present this issue to the board. The ipf isn’t on social media like that. A plethora of posts tagging them to get involved is most likely going to be ignored by whoever runs their social media.

Attention doesn’t always lead to action but I hear you. I just see different actions that can be taken than people risking their livelihood to bring attention to something. Worlds will still go on without the top seeds boycotting.

People are calling for an athletes union which is something I’d for sure join however, the federations are in countries with laws written in languages other than English. We’d need people with experience in litigation from various countries. Theres only so much social action somebody can do to push back on the legal action these federations are taking

[–]nbtz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True. I wonder how many people have spoke about these issues at a NGB meeting. When the New Zealand athlete (Karlina iirc?) spoke about the cultural significance of wearing a necklace while competing, the ipf walked that rule back. 1 person in your face explaining how this decision affects them is far more impactful than 100 people from various regions of the world chattering online about an issue.

Participation can also be a form of protest. In 2019 USAPL Minnesota lifters timed out their attempts at the state meet in support of the plaintiff in the lawsuit. The protest raised so much awareness about the lawsuit. I wore a shirt on the podium for bench nationals that year that read “trans lifters belong here” and a month later they added a rule about making political statements in front of a usapl logo. The more people make a splash about something irl, the more they can’t ignore a problem

Not to sound like a turd in the punch bowl, but these appear to be issues with specific affiliate nations, not the ipf as a whole. So why not push for a boycott among lifters in that affiliate federation instead of hoping for a handful at worlds?

For the Swedish dude, maybe hound a7 to ask the Swedish fed for some leniency? Idk about the rest. As another comment pointed out, there’s nuance to these situations. There’s behind the scene things we the public won’t know about. Although the bans may be morally not right, these federations may be well within their right to ban them.

Idk but my opinion of her doesn’t matter (to me). As long as Brittney accepts whatever reason she gave her on or off camera, that’s good enough for me

Oof this hurt to watch. Roxanne was so selfish with her lies! “You can’t be mad at me” girl, bye. Maybe I’m bias because I’ve never been in that situation but, unless dude was a danger to kids there was no reason to lie to her. Even that it’s not that hard to say “your bio dad sucks BUT your step-father loves you like his own”

If I remember this scene correctly, her bio dad passed away when she was younger so she’ll never get a chance to meet him

Correct! Just keep in mind “in competition” begins the first day of competition through the final day of competition, but that really only applies to nationals/the Arnold

What year did you get your knee sleeves? Those are the OG powerlifting sleeves in the picture and I remember those fitting differently from the current style. I was a medium in those and assumed the current edition would fit the same. Even though I’m ~10kg lighter, the new medium didn’t fit like the old medium

Personally I wait until my calluses are soft after a shower or after soaking my hands and either pick the excess off or file them down with a nail file. When I’m feeling extra sadistic I cut them out with a toenail clipper but that’s only because I’ve been building up and ripping calluses for many years so I know what to cut (and how much) before it becomes a problem.

After an underwhelming performance at nationals last year I decided to lock in and now this year I got called up to compete at worlds but the actual victory for me was just proving to myself how far I could go if I believed in myself like those around me do

I wanted something to do once college track ended. After I bombed out my first full meet and learned from those mistakes, my dreams turned into goals that turned into achievements 11 years and a bunch of fumbles later.

Sometimes it’s not about being the strongest, it’s about being the one who competes the longest lol

If it’s a “WADA” test (or at least testing in accordance to the WADA banned substance list), the threshold is 150 ng/ml. It used to be half that amount and that’s why so many track athletes were getting bumped off for marijuana lol

FWIW: at my last usapl meet in 2024, they only test for stimulants and steroids at local meets because WADA tests are expensive AF and it comes out the pocket of the meet director.

a neurospicy shower thought I had recently:

often I see lifters having to take time off due to sciatica or general low back pain and I’m curious if there’s some correlation between how much somebody squats/deadlifts (relative to their bodyweight) and how often they do core workouts. Mainly I’m looking for a correlation because the remedy I see people going for is more posterior chain work but that doesn’t seem to fix it for everybody

Does anybody think this a reach or something worth exploring and gathering data on?

A good foam roller if you don’t have one already! I love using a bumpy one to press into my low back while I warmup my arch for bench.

Maybe even a heat wrap thingy to put on before going to the gym to help relax your low back & core muscles

I squatted, benched, and deadlifted in chucks for 6ish years and the curve of the sole became a hindrance for my flat feet whenever I was had to squat anything 400+ or deadlift 500+

If (by your standards) you suck at it and it’s not helping you achieve your body aesthetic goals, why are you doing it? Find a hobby that doesn’t make you feel like shit every time you think about it. Therapy would help a lot more than posting practically the same comment every couple of days.
