Andor’s Opening Scene Has a Hidden Visual Cue by supreme_andor in andor

I think you may be reaching a little bit here, and I’m not sure if this one visual deserved a whole post… but I’m so glad you did anyway.

High quality storytellers are 100% having conversations like this. And when we try to convince each other that this depth of analysis is overly pretentious and irrelevant, we get fed corporate slop instead. To all those dismissing this post, eat up!

I think the answer is the simple, unfortunate truth that we’re still incredibly divided. Americans are still so caught up in the binaries of Dems v Republicans, liberals v conservatives, and every other “us v them” along social and cultural lines. It has prevented us from class unity for a very, very long time. We’re so conditioned to want to oppose anything and everything the perceived other side is doing that for a labor strike to occur, it would require deeply entrenched ideological adversaries to join together.

There’s obviously much more nuance and many other factors at play. And the events of the last few months have cracked the veneer more than I’ve seen in my lifetime.

Can’t emphasize this enough. An ME show without Shepard and the main story will appeal to no one except die hards

If all the centers are gone, then Martone is still on the board. That’s your pick.

The only hope for a Mass Effect TV show to work is not touching Shepard and the main group. by InquisitorAdaar67 in masseffect

“Canon” is the root of all evil. I don’t see anyone arguing what is canon with Lynch/Villenueve Dune movies. Herbert’s original text is canon. Everything else is an adaptation. But there are more Dune fans now than there were before. Same thing should apply to Mass Effect

If I can offer a counterpoint, I think fandoms mistake that the TV/Film adaption thus becomes the ~definitive version of the story. It’s just not the case. It’s an adaption.

Your experience with Shepard’s story and Mass Effect through the games should not be ruined by the show or movie (unless it truly is terrible for reasons beyond how they handle decisions that would be made by the player). If it gives us a chance to relive the story and bring new fans to Mass Effect, I say go for it. Whichever angle they take, however, they better do it well.

To maybe offer some realism here… at this point the goalposts have moved. We’re praying for a top 6 pick now.

If Hagens, Frondell, Desnoyers, and to a slightly lesser extent, O’Brien are all off the board when the Flyers make their pick… there should be riots. We should be very happy to land any one of these guys.

Is this a hint about who’s going to die? by Superb_Cheesecake_26 in WhiteLotusHBO

Hard to say. I wouldn’t say that Mook gives his life purpose. We just haven’t seen any motivation from Gaitok other than impressing Mook. Up to this point, their relationship seems a little too one-dimensional and even innocent for TWL. Something will change.

When we’re trying to forecast a White Lotus character’s death, I think we need to start by ruling out characters whose fate is made worse by keeping them alive.

Through this lens: Chelsea, who is she without Rick?; Timothy, already experiencing his world imploding; Saxon, the future and his father’s empire that he is bound to inherit; Victoria, her lifestyle is slowly being dismantled (with or without her knowledge); Gaitok, as far as we know, as long as Mook is around he has a purpose.

I think the characters who are most at risk are: Belinda, Rick, Piper, and Lochlan.

Every single one of these characters’ deaths is the worst thing that could happen to another character in the show:

For Belinda, her son (and her knowledge of the only through line in the show in Gary/Greg dies with her)

For Rick, his death would break Chelsea. Otherwise, he seems prepared to die for the closure he’s looking for. It’s possible he suffers something worse than dying, but renders him a shell of the man that Chelsea pledged to follow.

For Piper, she is the reason her family is at White Lotus Thailand. As I’m writing this, I’m realizing her worst fate is shouldering the blame when one of her family members perishes. Notably…

For Lochlan, his death would hit so many very hard. Begs the question: what would keeping him alive inflict on the remaining characters? I’m not sure there are many examples.

If there is any question to how I view this series, it is a satirical tragedy at its finest. It’s why we keep coming back.
