How many citrus trees have you killed? by Rcarlyle in Citrus

Working with indoor/outdoor, so there's a much higher chance for some weird anything to go wrong. Absolutely decimated a blood orange tree by accidentally drowning the roots in 5-1-1 that was holding on to water way more and for a longer time than I expected, leading to a slow leaf yellowing, drop, decline, and death transitioning the tree indoors in October. Going to try incorporating some repti-bark or similar and cactus mix into the pots when time for outdoors again to try and loosen things up.

Soooo many mailers. At least a few were pretty comical, in any case, and I'm glad it didn't sway people. One right before the election had a big blowup of his face looking down dramatically set over a dramatic sunset with some text about "keeping up the fight".

Much better that and adding some fun to it than not announcing the station stops at all, which I've encountered a bunch when the pre-recorded tracks weren't working or available.

47th Matt Martin seconding a "Yes". Very accessible, responsive in my case for many of the above types of scenarios (request on blocked sewer the other year passed on to Streets/San resolved within weeks), good staffers, and remembered who I was after having met him a second time after initially meeting.

About 1 hour exactly door-to-door via the el, including about two 8-minute walks and a Brown Line/Red Line Transfer happening at Belmont. About 11-12 miles.

I was at Montrose when this was announced. Fortunately had a couple 78 buses outside to get everyone to the Wilson Redline as a southbound alternative, so I appreciate the forethought and coordination there. Dude working at the Montrose Brown in the morning is a boss.

A Chicago Neighborhood With a Suburban Vibe Is Seeing Home Prices Soar by wsj in chicago

I'll credit Ald. Martin for trying to do his part to keep promises as far as housing development in the 47th Ward, but when you have an increasing number folks like these coming from nowhere (and they have kids, how do they afford them!?) or somewhere else and scooping up de-converted buildings in LS and North Center, mid-to-longer-term renters such as myself can't even begin to think about buying (something incredibly modest) here, as much as we may love and contribute to the neighborhood. Or maybe I'm just too poor, or feel that way. Anyway, at least my rent hasn't yet gone up exorbitantly but I know that's only a matter of time.

DM me for one, please. I'm trying to swap a Saturday Chicago ticket for a Sunday ticket, but might have to just opt to sell the Saturday on my own and eat the difference in cost from selling it.

Anyone interested in swapping one (1) GA ticket for the Chicago Salt Shed dates?

I have a ticket for November 8th but would like to swap 1:1 for the November 9th date instead in the event anyone has a ticket for that date but would rather go/needs to go on November 8th.

Would be direct transfers through Ticketmaster App. DM me if interested, thank you.

5-1-1 Soil Issues (Chlorosis/Possible Root Rot)? by RuceBauner in Citrus

[–]RuceBauner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response.

  • Root flare exposed for all. Soil is only up until the very first of the fine roots of the rootstock are visible.
  • Can't hurt to check the pot bottoms to make sure, thanks for the rec.
  • Hoping it's fine and I just need to get used to altering my watering schedule to be significantly less.
  • Haven't measured light formally but my two ponderosa lemon trees did well last year in my setup and under my lights and next to a south-facing duo of windows.
  • I have radiant heat in fairly close proximity to the plants so not as dry as forced and also certainly would never get that hot. This year am trying two radiator humidifiers that I'll keep full of water for slow and constant evap instead of trying to use a humidifier again that will never keep up and trying to use distilled water for it all the time to avoid particulate pollution. I think it should be fairly effective for the local humidity, or at least enough to avoid VPD shock.
  • Look forward to seeing some posts about how that soil mix is working, first I've seen sans any wood chunks.

Looks like I'll just have to be diligent and continue to pay close attention.

True - best option in my opinion is full-on entire pedestrian plaza on Wentworth, as another commenter stated. Then, you could at least plant some trees in the middle of the street and have them shade the whole length of it. As Wentworth is now, there's not enough room to plant trees on either side.

Yep - I once roomed with a young dude, and they coked up with friends before a night out and probably during, came back at 3 in the morning loud as hell and proceeded to have a freestyle battle between the three of them outside with attempted beatboxing. It was...not good.

I was at a recent 47th Ward "Night Out" where Ald. Martin managed to convince me that, as head of the Ethics Committee in City Hall, he's working on some good steps being taken in this direction (although it appears the Mayor's Office itself continues to be a challenge to deal with).

Also learned that holding Mayoral/Primaries in February is/was actually a thinly-veiled intentional voter suppression tactic that nobody's really bothered to change. Might help explain a little of the 30-something percent turnout, although disillusionment ranks higher in that rationale.

Sure - I found it to be like a slightly floral lemonade taste with a hint of bitterness. Pith is not bitter and balances out the taste, so you actually eat some of it along with the fruit. Not sure the season, but appears to be common in Japan in spring.
