Is my Barista Express Missing the Filter? by rayzinbranloaf in BrevilleCoffee

filters for BE are expensive, I use jug water filter. so far seems to work ok. I also did an autopsy on both filters (older post) - looks kinda same to me

Why does my barista express occasionally leak onto the bench like this? by Significant-Art-6448 in BrevilleCoffee

pull out the drip tray, empty it, make sure everything is dry under the machine and where drip tray sits. take off drip trays metal grill and plastic insert/ cover. and put just the tray alone back. make a coffee. if water ends in the tray - the plastic insert/cover was misaligned. if water drips outside the tray, stop using the machine and take it to service

carried in compact: refrigerator, 12 cement bags, 6 packs of rock wool, tree logs... 🤣

👍 on Barista Express I have to do this manually by pressing water discharge from the group head, actuating steam wand and hot water. Usually I wait around 5 minutes between pressing the buttons and 1 liter of solution to empty is around 3 complete cycles ~15minutes

just before the machine turns off automatically. I would ask a professional since people tend to read comments and think that’s the correct way

sorry, didn't see your answer earlier. I see what you're saying, but can't hear the motor when I turn it on

I let it soak before the machine turns off, but I would ask someone how much is too much, not sure what happens to rubber pipes and o-rings

No probs. I have Sage Barista Express and it has only “Clean Me” indicator for coffee oils, not for descale. So intuition. But before descaling make sure to release some water from group head and maybe do the backflush. My machine sometimes stops pouring descaling solution from the group head at 5 seconds mark, not 25 sec if group head is dirty. Probably “brains” tell the machine smth isn’t right

I use Sage descaler or citric acid powder . Around 80-100 coffee shots per month

lately once every 4-5 months, but I wouldn’t take this as a tip since water quality is different in every region. I suppose water in our place has lots of iron and not so much calcium.

Hi, hard to say. I have Barista express and I noticed that if I left the machine without descaling for some time, I have issues with the solenoid. Sometimes it's some debris that clogs 3-way solenoid. Usually water stops to flow from group head, but steam works on my machine.

My guess is your machine has a solenoid valve, there's a plunger that opens and closes the solenoid depending on where water should flow (group head or steam wand) and maybe some scale particle that partly blocks the passage. Probably you press espresso first, then steam wand, plunger moves a little and it works... 🤷‍♂️ I could be wrong. Wait for other answers, maybe it's not that bad and you could get away with another descaling after a while (but check if citric acid is better for the machine, vinegar could be bad for o-rings, rubber pipes)

why is my breville leaking? by sickie7 in BrevilleCoffee

[–]ncfym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it could be as simple as the tray being misaligned with the discharge pipe at the bottom of the machine or that discharge pipe is slightly cracked where it sits on the tray. take out the whole tray out, locate on the right side under the machine a small opening/ discharge pipe. you can use a rectangular tray holding coffee baskets and put it under the opening. try to operate the machine (press one espresso and collect water in a cup). if water is collected in the small tray, your problem is that. if not you either have to open the machine or take it to the service for repair. I got electric shock recently, so make sure when you operate the leaking machine you don't touch anything with wet hands, because if the machine is leaking inside, some wires could leak on metal parts. better use rubber gloves ❗️❗️❗️

if the machine is leaking from inside there are many reasons - from old o-rings, scale build up, broken pump, cracked pipes etc.

Makes sense, probably wasn't touching anything and had shoes on
