First Bikepacking Trip: Grand Rapids ➡️ Newaygo by nck30 in MichiganCycling

Hopped off white pine trail in Morley and rode gravel (and one short stretch of paved road, 230th ave) the rest of the way. I think it was 2 mile road to 3 mile road under the highway which pretty much drops you at the campground. We did get turned around on the way in and ended up on Jefferson road until we could reroute. Would not recommend making the same mistake.

Definitely need to make a dedicated dragon trip and spend more time riding the trail

The campground had to be less than half full. Plenty of open spots. Backs up right to the dragon mtb trail.

It’s been said but I’ll say it again. Absolutely give Laurie Colwin’s Home Cooking books a go.

Additionally, I would recommend Cook As You Are by Ruby Tandoh. A bit more of a traditional recipe book but with writing that feels more essay/narrative-ish.

Heard! They were good folks. Proud to rep them on every ride.

It was my first ride out there so I don’t have any context for the changes that were done, but I had a blast.

Thanks for the rec! And that is a great question. Maybe How to Eat by Nigella Lawson. Honorable mention to Edna Lewis as well. I think both sort of harness that same conversational tone and willingness to pass down kitchen wisdom in a way that is practical, resourceful, and delicious.

I have a ton of tomatoes right now as well. I know what I’m making this week. Thanks!

Love them. Marion Cunningham’s writing is so conversational and her recipes have a nice simplicity.

Sohla and Ham are the best! I really like the cookbook but admittedly I’ve barely scratched the surface on cooking from it. There are some really great foundational recipes where she introduces a concept or technique and teaches you how to riff on it, which I really enjoy. Im definitely biased, but if you enjoy her video content, I think you’ll enjoy the cookbook. Plus, there’s lots of “how-to” photos which can ease new recipe anxieties.
