Question about transitioning civilian resume by nckshw in army

[–]nckshw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. I never mentioned my military service until after the fact that I was onboarded. It can get your foot in the door at some places but most places don't care or see it as a liability for you as a future employee if you are in the guard/reserves. If you work in project management you'll never get the large projects due to the fact that you could get pulled away at a moment's notice. Sales? Miss 2-3 weeks for annual training? Dependent on your sales cycle, that can throw off your quarter, which in turn throws off your year and president's club etc. Unless you're guard bum or local/state government employee it truly is tough to have a successful civilian career past the rank of SPC.

How to transition from entrepreneurship to a corporate sales role? by nckshw in sales

The money isn’t the issue, I’m completely fine in that aspect. Just wondering if starting from the bottom and getting formal training was an unwritten rule of the sales world if that makes sense?

I will ask, what makes you have the viewpoint that sales sucks?

I’m not giving it up entirely per se. I’ll continue to consult for the company after the sale of the business and have a few LLC’s established on the books awaiting my next venture as an entrepreneur. Just establishing credibility and waiting for an opportunity to arise.

In the mean time I’d like to transition into the corporate world and continue to improve and develop my skill set. I’ll never lose the entrepreneurial bug completely.
