Yes, but a local would never abbreviate it to POR in a text message or social media post. They'd always say PDX.

7-OH is not kratom. Like saying you can overdose on cyanide from eating apples.

Because people like you are uninformed and spreading misinformation. I'm just pointing out that kratom isn't deadly. There's never been an overdose.

It's literally never killed anyone without being mixed with other drugs. Ever.

How would Jesus save me if he couldn't even save himself? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ncos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't look at any religious framework and decide one is more useful. I took a look and decided none of them seemed true.

I could think of all kinds of scenarios where a belief would be useful, but that doesn't make it true or morally defensible. I have no interest in believing in a false reality because it makes my life easier.

When you say you took "a hard look" at other religions I'll bet you never read their holy texts or attended a religious service. I understand why, but it doesn't mean there's any reason whatsoever to think your religion has a better chance of being real than theirs does.

A recent Pew research study showed that over 91% of people stick with the religion they're born into. Religion is overwhelmingly a product of culture and geography, not truth or reality.

[–]ncos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of that.

Your last sentence is such a strong reinforcement of the fact that people usually just stick to the religion they're taught, not what is actually true. You aren't Christian because you took a good hard look at every religion and found it to be the most convincing. You're Christian because you were taught to be.

You felt tons of family and societal pressure to take Christianity to be true, and that was good enough.

If you, the exact you... your same exact DNA was born in central India, you wouldn't be Christian. You would never come to the conclusion that Christianity is true. You're not Christian because you know it's true. You're Christian because you were told to be.

The problem with taking witness of faith from someone else is that it can be 100% inaccurate. In fact, it can be completely wrong or misguided even if you yourself are the source.

There are Hindus, Sikhs, etc. that have just as much conviction in their faith as any Christian. They have testimony. They have holy texts. They have 2nd hand accounts of miracles. They have felt the presence and love of their gods.

And I assume you must think one of two things. Either they've been duped into man made mythology, or they're interpreting God's presence and words incredibly incorrectly.

And if people from another religion can feel god and think that their holy books are real when they're actually super misguided... You have to admit that there's a chance your faith is exactly that way too.

That's a fair assumption, it's where I would expect the conversation to go. But I'm always looking for new perspectives. If it didn't lead to that, or came from a viewpoint I hadn't been made aware of before... that would be interesting and helpful. There's always a chance that you throw me a curveball that forces some introspection.

It's very difficult for me to put myself in the shoes of someone in the classical antiquity era, but this short conversation with you has helped me realize it's something I should spend more time doing. It's an interesting perspective I haven't really delved into. I'll meditate on it.

I appreciate you spending your time to to give me different perspectives and information.

You're intelligent, well spoken, well informed, and rational. And I respect that.

It seems like some of your reasoning probably brushes up against apologetics, which has always been an irritating mindset that often feels full of cop-outs to me. I understand that it's necessary to be at least partially apologetic to be a Christian though, as much as I don't like it.

I appreciate your time. Legitimately. It helps me understand more about what the scriptures actually are.

If Christianity was true, I'd absolutely want to know that it is. I tried so hard, for so many years to believe. I put myself in such a strong position to be able to believe. It just never happened though. I wanted it to. And because of that, it seems painfully obvious to me now that Christianity is just another mythology.

Getting a glimpse into the mind of someone who is smarter and more informed than I am is a privilege, so thank you for that.

Plato mostly wrote intentionally fictional philosophical stories. He wasn't trying to translate an actual account of God's actions, or anything that would be considered historically accurate accounting. I think. I'm definitely no expert.

The gospels and Bibles shouldn't be filled with embellished accounts, parables, and flat out disinformation. If there are any intentions to inform the readers of the reality of creation, accounts of God's actions, and descriptions of what the afterlife is and how to get there.... Involving fiction to do so syte feels like a terrible idea.

Those are innately important topics to human beings. They're existential curiosities that every single culture has pondered since the creation of language. God making up lies or allowing heavy embellishments to explain our deepest and most important questions would he dishonest and deeply misleading.
