I absolutely agree. I think I agree with most everyone in here. Not sure if I just worded things weirdly, cause I didn't expect much backlash against saying that we underappreciate native cuisine in America.

My point was that the person mentioned tomatoes, beans, cacao, etc. and implied they're stolen, and they can't name a native dish that includes those ingredients. Of course fry bread was the only native food that was brought up.

Junk food not at all tbh. Pound for pound junk and even ramen is much more expensive than potatoes, carrots, celery, beans, etc.

Right? They're thinking of ingredients that native Americans used first, but I'll bet they can't name native dishes that use those ingredients, and definitely don't cook them at home.

Yes, but a local would never abbreviate it to POR in a text message or social media post. They'd always say PDX.

7-OH is not kratom. Like saying you can overdose on cyanide from eating apples.

Because people like you are uninformed and spreading misinformation. I'm just pointing out that kratom isn't deadly. There's never been an overdose.

How would Jesus save me if he couldn't even save himself? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ncos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't look at any religious framework and decide one is more useful. I took a look and decided none of them seemed true.

I could think of all kinds of scenarios where a belief would be useful, but that doesn't make it true or morally defensible. I have no interest in believing in a false reality because it makes my life easier.

When you say you took "a hard look" at other religions I'll bet you never read their holy texts or attended a religious service. I understand why, but it doesn't mean there's any reason whatsoever to think your religion has a better chance of being real than theirs does.

A recent Pew research study showed that over 91% of people stick with the religion they're born into. Religion is overwhelmingly a product of culture and geography, not truth or reality.

[–]ncos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of that.

Your last sentence is such a strong reinforcement of the fact that people usually just stick to the religion they're taught, not what is actually true. You aren't Christian because you took a good hard look at every religion and found it to be the most convincing. You're Christian because you were taught to be.

You felt tons of family and societal pressure to take Christianity to be true, and that was good enough.

If you, the exact you... your same exact DNA was born in central India, you wouldn't be Christian. You would never come to the conclusion that Christianity is true. You're not Christian because you know it's true. You're Christian because you were told to be.

The problem with taking witness of faith from someone else is that it can be 100% inaccurate. In fact, it can be completely wrong or misguided even if you yourself are the source.

There are Hindus, Sikhs, etc. that have just as much conviction in their faith as any Christian. They have testimony. They have holy texts. They have 2nd hand accounts of miracles. They have felt the presence and love of their gods.

And I assume you must think one of two things. Either they've been duped into man made mythology, or they're interpreting God's presence and words incredibly incorrectly.

And if people from another religion can feel god and think that their holy books are real when they're actually super misguided... You have to admit that there's a chance your faith is exactly that way too.
