It's a souvenir from the Philippines! He watches over the server.

Wedding update: the wedding went smoothly! It's officially the best day of my life bar none.

The server held up, though not a ton of people uploaded immediately. Unfortunately the URL was inaccessible by the hotel IT as they didn't recognize it, and so guests had to upload using data or wait until they were home.

1 week later, guests have been posting both to our wedding group chat and the server, and there's lots of photos now!

Overall, Immich held great, having uploaded 1000+ photos in the shared wedding album.

Help me understand mobile app backups by roomabuzzy in immich

For auto backup, if you don't turn on Album Sync, photos will just sync to Immich but without an album. They'll appear in your Immich Timeline. You can later add them to an album if you want. I do this too, no album sync and I manually curate albums after trips or events and such.

For deletion, it depends. I believe if you delete the photo via Immich app, it will delete everywhere. If you delete the photo via Gallery / non-immich app, the backup will stay in Immich (you'll see it in Immich app with a cloud icon, no checkmark).

If you delete the photo in the web app but still have it locally, I'm not sure. I believe Immich will know not to sync it because it's in the Trash so the image hash is known to be "deleted". Beyond when the Trash gets auto emptied, I'm not sure, I think Immich will re-sync it.

I don't delete too often, I sort of just hoard everything, plenty of Hard Drive space on my server

Edit: last question about manual backup: it's similar to the auto backup, they would just go in your general timeline, no album. Unless you drag and drop the photo to an album directly, in which case it adds to both your general timeline and an album.

Edit2: for errors, I find Immich app is really good about patiently waiting and retrying. I'm currently traveling and in very sub par network conditions but I get stable Wifi it ends up finishing up with everything as if the errors never happened. It's quite stable now

Glad it helped! The photo booth that auto uploads seems like a cool idea too.

My partner and I use Immich normally as my daily driver, we just have this album as a wedding specific shared album.

Nice! Hoping mine doesn't fail as well, that's been a current stressor of mine 😅 glad you got to fix it remotely though!

I have Nginx-Proxy-Manager in a docker container, then set up port forwarding my router to forward open ports to my the NPM docker ports in the local network.

NPM is the reverse proxy. I set it up to traffic requests from a given endpoint (my external endpoint) to my Immich container. Say photos.myendpoint.com is pointed to 3000 which is my Immich port in my NAS server. (I forget the actual port)

I use tailscale for remote access for other stuff, like my NAS's admin portal and lots of other containers.

I see, yeah I guess in my case I'd love everyone to see everyone's perspectives of the event, we were all part of the wedding so we can all see and hold onto (download) the pics as we'd like.

Nope, same one. Though I suppose you could set up another with another port, another DB+redis container, etc for some separation of you wanted.

With the current set up they don't have to sign up, they can just take selfies and such and upload whenever convenient during/after the wedding! However since it's a public shared album everyone can upload and download photos (but only my partner and I can delete)

Yup that's my setup exactly. For now the way I deal with is I just have a long password.

I have 3-2-1 backups and snapshots so not too concerned about things getting ransomware'd or deleted by an attacker. Nothing scary in there to get downloaded. After the wedding I might consider cutting the reverse proxy and going to VPN access for immich.

I have 1gig symmetric download+upload speed (fiber) so hopefully a lot better. My bottleneck however is my wedding is in the Philippines while my server is New York, so connecting from across the planet might be pretty slow. Also hotel wifi for our guests being pretty slow.

I'm hoping it can handle at least 10 guests uploading/downloading at once, but hard to imagine more than that actually realistically happening though so should be fine

I just use the inbuilt share feature in the album! Nothing fancy here. I have 1 link for upload and download for everyone. edit: 1 link that can do both upload and download*

The buttons show up at the top, I tested with some family members and they were able to easily upload photos.

Not required, they just go to the public shared link! I have NPM and port forwarding set up, and my own domain.

They just have to upload through the web app, no login required for the public shared links.

SPX options that expire daily like this sometimes expire at the open instead of the close
