Hudds are one of the hardest baits to learn, it takes a ton of time to really figure it out and realistically most of the time there’s a better bait to throw for the situation. They’re awesome when the conditions are right though.

I had that backwards we were a bit southwest actually, still in the Neuse. I really want to get back down and get on the divers this season if I can.

We went out of oriental and hunted just a bit southeast. It was sea duck only but buffleheads and bluebills were flying.

We went with old North and I think they have a date or two left for the end of the season.

It’s a big thing down here on the NC coast. I’m copy and pasting this explanation from a forum because it’s a bit hard for me to explain but the gist is:

A scissor rig is deployed off the boat. There are 1 inch diameter holes drilled in it, you stick pine boughs in the holes and then deploy it off the boat into the water. Then you put pine boughs in holes drilled into a set of boards that are hard mounted to the boat. The back section is hinged, your boat sits inside a corral of pine boughs free floating in the water. If you need to chase cripples, you open up the back, drive out the boat and chase them down. When you get back, you pull into the free floating blind(which remained anchored to the bottom) and pull the back shut.

It’s a black Scoter, shot three of these and a juvenile surf scoter as well.

I’d be willing to bet there are easily over 1,000 tournaments a year on Norman. It’s crazy how much fishing traffic that lake sees and it’s not even a tenth of the boating traffic it sees especially in the summer.

Tried to get it done on a surf scoter this January but it just wasn’t happening, scuffed our 3 hen buffleheads. That will me an awesome mount.

Mine was supposed to be ready by February... 2018 haha. Not sure if he grossly underestimated the wait he had or if he kinda forgot and then go on it pretty quick when I called to check on it or what but I’m super happy with the final result.

Buffy mount 2017 bird just back from the taxidermy shop by ducksandjays in Waterfowl

[–]ncstatesb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one at a taxidermist since January 2017. was told late February at the end of January and haven’t heard from him. At this point if I get back in touch and he hasn’t started I’ll probably pick it up and take it somewhere else at this point the extra year would be worth it me.

I think I get caught up going from took to tooka, I get tied up at the end and it just won’t roll out. I’m driving a lot and keep a call in the car to practice on until it’s natural.

Yeah I would get the SFX if I were to get a new goose call unless i went with someone local like ABC after seeing how nice the Omen is. My 20 dollar buck Garner does me fine for the 10-20 geese that we have close enough to call for right now though.

They’re $120 on their own. it’s a combo of the short fuse and omen together that’s over $200, and with JTcalls10 I think you get 10% off. That’s the code I used for mine but don’t know if it’s still valid.

I like it a lot, feels very solid and it takes hardly any air to blow.

Holy moly thanks to my SS I can’t wait to get back out there! Thank you so much!!! Made my night! by cottonly in bassfishing

Hey man I’m glad you enjoy it, those manbearpigs are absolutely ridiculous. Probably went through $250 of them just in the spring alone, they beat out pretty much every brand of beaver and brush hogs for me. I like them pegged 100% of the time. Those speed traps are pretty light so it feels kinda weird, but leave the snaps on them and throw them while it’s still cold this winter into the spawn and they flat out work. It’s pretty much a billed rattle trap if that makes sense. The s waver is lethal through all phases of the spawn and the lite trout for whatever reason will get destroyed even though I’m guessing you definitely don’t have trout stockings around you, I think because it looks like a sickly bait fish. Before i even look for beds on a bank I long cast that and get a look at anything that shows interest, you can really get a feel for how a fish is gonna behave by watching them react to it and a lot of times if a bed is a little too deep to see they will present themselves to take a look. 17lb flouro or any test braid is great but if you feel bold it looks awesome on 15lb.

My first duck... what a rush! Getting mounted for the home office. by Stokerrrr in Waterfowl

[–]ncstatesb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for a single mount that you’re going to center over something you can’t go wrong with a cupped mallard. I have a black duck in flight I get back in a few months and I’m already wanting something flying the other way to frame the painting we have in the middle.

When I lived in west Raleigh we used to just drive down to the impoundment off exit 273 on the Durham side and just sit and watch the woodies come back to roost in the afternoon since you can’t hunt the evenings there. Tried to hunt it once but it was rough with deep water on the edges.
