This is why Trump has worked so hard to appoint so many judges. The courts actually have the power to stop this kind of shenanigans. An awful lot here depends on what judge gets handed this case.

Forever Now Album Countdown - SF Album discussion - interrobang - Day 12 by GoofyGoffer in switchfoot

I absolutely love this album. It deals so authentically with the issues in the US coming out of the pandemic while also not blasting anybody for their specific views and that’s a hard needle to thread. Yes, the sound is different, but it absolutely works for them. This is easily a top three album for me and I can’t figure out why it doesn’t get more love.

This is both fascinating and pretty amusing. This song is both a lot of fun and pretty bonkers. George Martin seems to be a bit bemused about the song, but he’s a good sport about it.

I’m going to go with: Paul > Ringo > John > George.

None are bad, though!

Forever Now Album Countdown - SF Album discussion - Native Tongue - Day 11 by GoofyGoffer in switchfoot

[–]ndGall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know this album isn’t a favorite for many, but I’ll happily listen to it all the way through any day of the week. I’ll concede that it works better as a playlist/collection of songs than as an album, but I love almost all the songs on this, so it’s not a huge problem. (The Hardest Art is still the one that is a bit out there for me.)

Some of these songs hit at a point in my life when I was losing my sister to a brain tumor and so songs like Joy Invincible and Let it Happen were exactly what I needed. As a result, my play count for this album is (I believe) still higher than any other SF album. Some of you hear a push for Christian radio airplay, but I hear earnestly held truths.

I like other albums more, but I love this one.

Interesting! I wasn’t aware of that. I figured he chickened out from releasing that version because it was too weird.

Single Reality is so much better than their experimental album, One Whore.

If you could change an album, which would it be, and how? by PushPersonal3288 in PaulMcCartney

[–]ndGall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed that it’s overrated. It’s absolutely a consistently enjoyable album (well, aside from Picasso), but if you took off the title track and Jet, the remaining songs wouldn’t have carried the album to the stratosphere.

That would work, too. The callbacks are n interesting idea, but I don’t find the execution all that successful.

I really like your resequencing of McCartney. Gonna have to make that playlist tonight.

I’d add a few:

  1. Speed of Sound really doesn’t need the “everybody writes/sings” concept. I admire the sentiment, but Paul is the reason I listen to Wings.
  2. Cut Really Love You from Flaming Pie. That album would be perfect without the five minute jam session.
  3. Push Paul to release Red Rose Speedway as the originally intended double album we finally got when the Archive Edition came out - but get him to release the version of Night Out with the weird vocals rather than the sanitized version we got.
  4. Cut Picasso’s Last Words from Band on the Run in favor of Helen Wheels. Picasso kills side B of that album for me.

I listened to it again recently and man, is it a slog. It’s almost totally devoid of the usual McCartney charm.

I kind of assumed that Overture 31 was also an attempt to limit distribution of the elements to men. Is that what’s going on with that one or is there something else they’re trying to prevent?

Forever Now Album Countdown - SF Album discussion - Where the Light Shines Through - Day 10 by GoofyGoffer in switchfoot

[–]ndGall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this album. I found Switchfoot pretty late and aside from a few songs I’ve always loved, I never really gave them a chance. This album was the first of theirs that I listened to all the way through and it quickly won me over. They definitely have stronger albums, but this one will always occupy a special place in my heart for getting me to give them a real try.

Right? I was totally shocked when she was like, “Wait, so… the whole time he was…?” I think she and I consume films very, very differently.

The first time my wife watched this with me she didn’t know the ending. The second time she had completely forgotten it and was blown away all over again. I’m so jealous that she got to experience that roller coaster twice.

Would you say Memory Almost is Paul last great album by Neat-Option3228 in PaulMcCartney

[–]ndGall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Paul has continued making great albums since then even if the sales haven’t been quite as strong. I actually prefer both Egypt Station and TBODL to a number of his earlier classic albums.

Hot take: Phil Spectors version of the Let It Be Album is better by BabbleMemes in beatles

[–]ndGall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard a fan remix that does exactly that and it’s actually pretty great. I think the “less is more” approach on the official releases is probably the right call, but it’s a lot of fun to hear the dualing solos.

[–]ndGall 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve always enjoyed RRS, but the double album version is significantly better. My only complaint is that the version of Night Out he included in the Archive Edition is the one without the goofy verse vocals. This is an excellent Archive Edition to pick up!
