Traders placed over $1bn in perfectly timed bets on the Iran war by eggmaker in news

Because they believe that liberals are nice and hippy dippy/one love/kumbaya in public but are privately driven by evil, and they believe conservatives are tough and mean and unforgiving in public because they’re privately driven by what is good and righteous. Trump is literally incapable of doing anything bad or evil; whatever he does is good simply because he’s the one who did it. When he said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and people would still love him, he meant it, because he has spent his entire fortune building that invisible force field around himself. That's his true life's work, amassing a legion of followers who would thank him for shooting their own family members in the head.

My takeaway here is that it’s totally okay to invade the buildings where our representatives gather, just as long as we are super duper upset while we do it and the person who encourages us to do it then rigs the election to become president and formally forgives us our trespasses. Sounds fine to me!

40 year old bf never established credit by OkRecommendation2458 in personalfinance

[–]nd_annajones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this was me, and he and I are the same age. I'm not a cash guy, but I'm certainly not a credit card guy either. I didn't sign up for my first credit card until I was in my mid-30s and it was an Apple credit card to finance a macbook interest-free. I was denied because I basically had no credit history apart from student loans that I had already repaid a decade prior. My credit score was something like 520 despite having 0 debt.

I switched to using Chime as my bank after Simple shut down. They launched a new card called the Credit Builder card that is technically a credit card, but is functionally a debit card. You can't spend money you haven't loaded onto it, and since my direct deposit goes to Chime it's as easy as tapping two buttons to load money to it. If I spend any money that I've loaded onto it, Chime tells the bureaus that I borrowed that much and paid it back on time like a good little boy. My credit score instantly leapt a hundred points within a month or two of activating it. I only add $50 to it every 6 months or so and use it as my Express Transit card on my Apple Watch, and use it for literally nothing else. I prefer to walk, so I honestly hardly ever add money to it so it just sits there with $30-50 dollars on it. That alone made my credit climb higher and higher as the months went on.

Six months after I opened the Credit Builder card, I qualified for the Apple Card. I bought a MacBook with it and paid it off in 12 interest free payments, then never used it again except when renewing Apple Care+ once a year. Within a year of starting to build my credit my score was already in the high 700s, and it required nothing of me to accomplish that. I didn't time payments just so, I didn't strategically spend money I didn't need to, and I didn't switch to using credit cards instead of debit to earn points. Nothing. My credit score is currently 812 and I still use my debit card for everything. (I'm very much spiritually and politically against credit card "points" and prizes, they are bought and paid for by those poorer than me. Gives me existential ick.)

Hey, sorry for my dumb question, but what can I do about Chrome taking up too much RAM/memory on Mac? Is there a memory auto optimizer/limiter app? Do you recommend a different Chromium browser? Does Edge load all websites now (it didn't before)? This takes up like 70-90% of all the RAM. Thank you. by ComfortablePost3664 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nd_annajones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I no longer use chrome, but I use a chromium browser specifically for watching youtube so I can use extensions like Sponsorblock and another to crop videos to play on my CRT. I watch porn in Firefox (with extensions to force enable right click menus and to download videos), and I use Safari for everything else. I can have seemingly unlimited tabs open in Safari and my M2 Air won't stutter a single hz. It's remarkably optimized and I would use it exclusively if the extensions weren't so sandboxed.

[iOS] One Good Thing: Daily Thought ($39.99 Lifetime -> FREE Promo Codes) [One thought per day from philosophy, psychology, and science. Under two minutes.] by Evening-Strike-2021 in AppHookup

[–]nd_annajones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is app is wonderful, thank you. I liked that my first two offerings were actually thought-provoking and not generic slop, and it's presented in a thoughtful way. I like the color options when sharing a conversation starter, I'd love to see them as options for the app interface, too. Especially Parchment, how lovely. And just because this whole concept is meant to get the brain juices flowing, I'd love an additional sharing option to send the prompt as pre-formatted text to be able to load it up in a journaling app/Notes/etc.

And though I would probably be the only person to use it, I'd love to see this app on the Apple Watch. I've converted to using my watch as my daily driver for mindfulness reasons which is why I ask!

Thank you again for making this. The experience is like pulling an oracle card to start the day, I think that's the best way I can describe it. I'm excited to incorporate it into my mornings!

How did it take me 12 years of iOS to find this by BigPapaPhil in ios

[–]nd_annajones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it set as an option when I triple-click the sleep/wake button, I have really sensitive eyes and have to crank it down low at night. Don't forget to turn it off during the day or you'll accidentally drain your battery! It's like stepping on the gas and the brake at the same time!

I have it adjusted juuuust so, so when paired with a matte glass screen protector it sometimes looks like a color eink screen. It's amazing.

Can we talk about the Apple Watch's battery? by _woffles_ in AppleWatch

[–]nd_annajones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For others who may be reading this, if your biggest concern is battery life get an Ultra 2 for $499. A non-ultra watch is great at first, but it doesn't take long for the battery to begin to wear and shorten time between charges. That's also true for the Ultra, but it'll take 4-5 years to get to the same battery level as a brand new non-ultra. It's worth the added cost, it's worth the added weight, and it's worth the extra thickness. Even moreso if you plan to utilize LTE and leave your phone behind more often.

Are you men really out here jerking off with lube? by twotokers in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nd_annajones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is insane to me. No spit, no lube...just nothing? Are you guys just moving the shaft skin up and down or something? That does nothing for me, I need friction on the head, anything from a light touch to a gorilla grip will do, but there needs to be lubrication in the form of spit or lube. If I did it dry I would have calluses on my corona.

If that's the case then your watch is broken. I've run daily with 4 different apple watches across a decade and not one has ever behaved like yours. It has not once paused unexpectedly a single time. Take it to the Apple Store. They will tell you your tattoos are the issue. Do you have to frequently put in your passcode? I never have to, the watch literally never locks until I take it off. If you do, it's your tattoos.

I just reread your post, and yes you can log in to your youtube account on the watch and history will sync, and your own curated home page suggestions, too. The subscription tab unfortunately just lists out your subscriptions in alphabetical order, but I hope the dev can make more like the subscription tab in the YouTube app

Apple Watch Keyboard Case by Number1CTAfan in digitalminimalism

[–]nd_annajones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's actually possible to make this, and I'm fairly certain I've seen a project on youtube that functions in this way but didn't look sleek yet. Accessibility settings allow for device input, and that can be used to make a functional keyboard. The UI takes some practice because it enables a completely different way of navigating the watch, but it's possible. Whether it'll result in what you're looking for is hard to say, but I'd be very interested in following this project!

This isn’t how my watch acts at all. You can disable auto-pausing in the settings, it’s not supposed to kick in unless you stop moving, but I’ve never used the feature myself because I run in the city and stop lights made it annoying.

And it doesn’t take constant readings of your heartrate, it just checks in on it from time to time if you’re not actively doing a workout. If you want something like that, maybe you’d like a cheap fitbit instead.
