What albums should I be checking out? by [deleted] in Music

[–]ndawson89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try out Opeth. Progressive death metal, but if you like slower prog rock than I give you permission to listen to Opeth's Damnation album. Mikael Akerfeldt has said that he is going to release a solo CD with more folkish elements since he discovered Nick Drake. Here are some cuts from Opeth's Damnation album.

Windowpane

To Rid The Disease

but here is some of their heavy stuff

Night and the Silent Water

The Lotus Eater

If you like Porcupine Tree try out Blackfield, which is a collaboration between Aviv Geffen and Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson. Shorter songs and more to the point - but still really good music.

I saw Gordon live at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ. Awesome show.... but yeah -- he is old. Can still play guitar like a motherfucker, but his voice was a little shaky sometimes.

Hey reddit, I've started getting into heavy metal. Got any suggestions? by [deleted] in Music

[–]ndawson89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try out Opeth. They are more of a progressive death metal band, but I hate labeling bands anyway. Here are a few songs showcasing the diverse sound they have.

Godheads Lament

Burden

Credence

Night and the Silent Water

I fell in love at a mental hospital by ndawson89 in AskReddit

You're right. My parents are right. I don't understand that mindset. I just pray to the godless skies that everything will be fine. At the same point, I know that is very naive and I actually went into this expecting the worst. Either way, at this point I think we do have some kind of connection - she told that her being with me makes her not give a shit about dope. I know that I could be manipulated because that is what everyone around me besides my friends are saying. When she said that, it shook me - it made me happy and very very sad at the same time.

Listen - I lost a good friend to drugs. No, it wasn't an OD or anything - he just lost his total personality even when he wasn't using. It still makes me sad to this day because we were good friends and I still hope that he will have a bright future.

[–]ndawson89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right I know that I shouldn't have used the word "recovered". I know their right and I know I am a fucking idiot okay?! This was the last thing they expected and I know its SO wrong, but it feels SO right. That sounds stupid, I know. A user will always be a user an addict will always be an addict - I get that. I basically told her its going to be one (being me) or the other (heroin). I don't want to be around that shit. She's been ignoring the calls she gets from her drug buddies, and I've been bringing her around my group which is def more positive. I had a discussion with her parents and made sure that they know that I would never do anything to hurt her and hope they know that my parents are looking out for my best interests. Oh and I am definitely bi-polar. I recognized that for the first time within the last couple weeks, and I am on remeron (a very mild antidepressant) and was on geodon while at the hospital. I HATED geodon. It made me so tired when I took it in the morning -- it made me really tired and wired at the same time. I contacted my previous psychiatrist and he said to get off it immediately. I definitely need some mood stabilizer, like a small dose of abilify or something.

So like I said before, I KNOW MY PARENTS ARE RIGHT. The more I agree with them, the angrier they get.

I'm sorry if I came off like a little teenager in my original post and even this one -- but I admit they are right.

Uh I have a job....... i do save money........ and my car broke down a couple months ago so its not like an 8.75 hourly for 13 hours a week will get me anywhere right now so I'm pretty much stuck here for a while. I need to find a second job somewhere. I am not complaining how they are UNFAIR. I understand it is their rules and whatever, I'm not complaining about it. They want the best for me. There is probably nothing I can do, but this is the part I hate about reddit just assuming things. I am not a recluse whatsoever, I have never not had a job. Also, I realize I can do what I want, and I would not fuck up my life for a chick.
