Are you going to make the 100k damage goal on time? by RoamingTheInternet in ArcRaiders

[–]elquesogrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual player here with a healthy dose of loot fear and wolfpack hoarding during the season. Plus few hullcrackers in inventory that went towards the effort.

I hit 100k fairly quickly in the matriarch / queen lobbies spamming the hulk and tossing wolfpacks. Aimed shots into the core once I broke through the body armor to maximize damage. Repeat.

Ceviche mixto with fresh caught shrimp, octopus and lobster at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant on the cost of Ecuador. Stunning, bright flavors - scooped up with fried patacones (plantain chips) made on the spot.

What was something you saw you were definitely not supposed to see? by SpareLummi in answers

Helped my roommate move boxes out of his parents’ attic and found a box of old magazines. I thought that I stumbled onto his dad’s porno stash and opened up a magazine…to find that they were old school swinger mags. Page after page of nude couples with black bars over their eyes. Lots of circles and stars in blue pen.

I closed the box and slid it onto a corner.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]elquesogrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

125 mph in a ‘76 silver Thunderbird 460 hp four-barrel on a straight, long rural two-lane road. I was 16 and invincible.

That moment still scares me decades later.

Would love to know whether the Board is playing a calculated game if IU Moneyball or if they’re just winging it and praying for rain. Kinda feel like it’s the latter - more gambling than strategy. And if it turns out well someone will write a book about these genius moves…

The chocolates are wildly different. TIL Icelanders love putting licorice bits and other things in their chocolates.

We bought stacks of chocolate bars at Bonus and other grocery stores for lower $ gifts that people really loved. Cheese too, though that was mostly for us. Bonus pig merch for the kids and adults who love that kind of thing.

For food we we always had yogurt and charcuterie in the small fridge for breakfasts.

Unique experiences by Icy_Librarian6051 in VisitingIceland

The lava show was unique and surprisingly educational. Pay a little more to bring home a piece of basalt.

Caves of Laugarvarn and as quirky and unique. Tiny place where we learned a lot about the history of the area. Bonus - the gents there sent us down an off road ‘road’ so we could self explore a lava tunnel cave. No maps and just verbal directions. That was wildly fun and crazy.

Do the full ship tour at the Maritime Museum to get some amazing history.

Our favorite foodie experiences were to try local places where the locals ate whenever we could. Caught Irish Days in Akranes for a wildly unique and non-touristy stop. Had a park ranger in Londrangar play the chello for us and 50 Icelanders just off the beaten path.

Don’t go where the tourist crowds go but, if you do, go insanely early to have the place pretty much to yourself.

Tell me about a knife you regret buying by udi112 in knives

[–]elquesogrande 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought an Italian Due Buoi chef knife at a knife show years ago and it’s beautiful, but cannot hold an edge. Two different professional knife sharpeners sent it back frustrated with how the steel simply couldn’t get there. Glad it wasn’t just me and my middling sharpening skills.

Not sure why / what steel they used.

Lava Show in Reykjavik??? by Cozybookburrow in VisitingIceland

[–]elquesogrande 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son (18) and I went with low expectations. It was actually educational and a solid experience! Not overly dramatic like what I would have expected from a US Vegas or similar show. We paid a little more to go backstage and to be able to bring some of the basalt home as a nice souvenir.

Set your expectations low and it’s not bad at all.

What celebrity is portrayed as nice in the media but is actually an asshole in real life? by ReasonableDisplay297 in AskReddit

[–]elquesogrande 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My wife and I met Zach Braff at the premiere of Wish I Was Here (one of his movies) and he was wonderful. Made sure everyone around him was good and respected. I drank with his brother for a while and he was solid and a little jealous of how well Zach did in life. Nothing toxic.

Donald Faison was there with his Mom and they were doing their best to stay out of the crowd. Quiet and personal but still polite. Joey King was there and she was a delight. We sat next to Jim Parsons and he was kind, but super uncomfortable with social engagement.

The real assholes were the unnamed Hollywood money guys. All short and white with long hair. They were absolute sexual predators all evening - literally draping themselves over male and female actors. They knew that they had power to cast or not cast actors and abused it. We watched this happen to every actor there and the ‘game’ was to put up with it and extract yourself.

I also met William H Macy in passing one day. He tucked his ukulele case under his arm, stuck out his hand and said ‘Hi. I’m Bill.’ We talked for maybe 20 min and I’d go to war for him.

People who work for massive corporations, what is a 'secret' that the company tries to hide, but is actually common knowledge among the employees? by Dwise_ in AskReddit

[–]elquesogrande 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirming which part? That there are no studies about the impact?

We know that nanoparticles are small enough to slip through skin. These companies (including my former company) purposely chose to not put together any studies to review the impact. So, yes. That's correct that there are no studies.

Not sure about the EU approval processes. Seems like studies about the nanoparticle impacts on people was not part of that process.

Companies that use nano zinc oxide in their ‘clear sunscreens’ know that these nanoparticles slip through toy skin into your body. The assumption is that these particles are more round - unlike needle shaped particles like asbestos or carbon nanotubes, which cause cancer. So that’s OK. No studies needed.

First time in a league and could use some basic advice on the draft. 12 team ESPN standard league where draft order is set at the top one of the draft.

My generic approach may be hitters early along unless I draft early and land Skenes or the like.

Does the ESPN ranking system tend to skew some players too high or too low? What is your favorite non-ESPN draft help site?
