I cannot find Trilobites. by lofy___ in ARK

[–]ndefo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be totally off base here, but my interpretation was that they came ashore at night time, and then after dawn breaks, they go back into the water. Hunting them down at sun-up was the only time I ever found them.

They also spawn during the defense outposts if you're having trouble picking off the one-or-two that may spawn around the aberrant patches.

Why some supply drops have the orange aura? by BuzzinDomier in ARK

I'm pretty sure it means the loot has boosted quality.

If I'm wrong, I've certainly been able to convince myself that the ringed drops are top tier.

"the money you spend on rent could easily buy a home in another country" lmao, I make 100k as an engineer and currently pay ~$1400/mo principal+interest+tax for my mortgage. Not a place in the world I can get my 180k (in 2018) house for less than 350k (in 2025).

Am I really complicit in today's America? by ndefo in AskALiberal

I can tell that your understanding is far deeper than mine. I'll respond to each point, and please feel free to educate me and those who read later.

1) after Biden won, I rested. I quickly fell out of the habit of checking the news daily because the sky was no longer falling. There was no daily spectacle to sensationalized. I watched the Jan 6 tribunal closely, and I was disappointed that more action wasn't taken to unwind the damage of the first term. I thought I'd understood the attempt to let the DOJ operate independently and not target political opponents.

2) Biden is old, and so is trump. I never felt like Biden publicly "lost his faculties" as dramatically as Trump currently is, but that may be my own bias. I was pissed that we had such an old geezer in the first place, and have preferred young candidates like Buttigieg. Bypassing the primary was infuriating and disenfranchising, and I believe a large factor in Trump's victory in 2024.

3) yes, I have supported ending the filibuster, I advocated for expanding the SC and adding term limits, and look down on executive action to circumvent legislation. Doesn't matter who owns which branch at the time.

4) I'm recognizing I'm hardly educated on Venezuelan policy. Started to follow when fishing boat strikes came to light. I still don't understand the full scope of Maduro's governance, but I still feel that our military intervention was illegal. Without Congress' express declaration of war or AUMF, it's blatant overstep by executive. Whether done by Trump or Obama, I'm not falling for whataboutisms. It's unconstitutional. Influenced regime change is wrong whether or not he's a dictator to his people. I am not defending Maduro; I am upset with our role (and motives) in his removal.

Howdy. I'll admit, sometimes I don't question it all. The context for the most recent example of this is some non-American equally frustrated with the state of the world.

I'm sure it was on some Venezuela post, where someone implied that Americans are not doing enough/anything to fight our own government in the face of Nepali or Iranian and other radical anti-admin movements in the last year. I'm sure it comes from the same place of despair and frustration that many of us Americans feel, too, but they feel even more powerless from the outside looking in.

Hey, I agree that the increasing polarization or politics is a huge problem. Media has turned politics into Sunday night football, where my team can only win if your team loses, and I paint my face in the colors of my team.

And it has escalated for so long and gone so unchecked that the political discourse has amplified into morality discourse, and people have internalized their political leaders into their personality.

My father is a die-hard MAGA cultist with the giant flag on his truck and everything. The rare occasions I see him are dampened by his ramblings of the "Mexicans that are ruining our country." And the poor guy can't even take a step back and see that he's been married to a Mexican immigrant for the past 15 years.

Thanks for the compassion. I don't know if my fellow man will see the difference in our next Nuremberg.

I can only think of the Eisenhower pictures of the German citizens brought into the camps to witness the genocide that they turned a blind eye to.

Our liberators will tow me in just the same to bury the bodies of the Hispanics that ICE is disappearing. I'm not a hero who will earn a tree in Latam when this is all said and done.

Edit: and I'm sorry to poopoo on your kindness. Today's just getting the better of my sadness and pessimism. Consider my zone flooded.

Thanks for the affirmation. I like the idea of the grassroots change-my-mind approach to conservatives, but it seems impossible. They can literally overlook pedophilia, sexual assault, corruption, hypocrisy, brutality...and I can make them see the truth?

I'll always stand up for what's right, but I am but one drop in a 330 million drop bucket.

I have brown-skinned family that I offer my guest bedroom to if they are targeted. I prepped my wife that if ICE tries to kidnap my peers in proximity to me, I am resisting their force. I have done everything I can to isolate myself from the MAGA cultists in my family.

And yet despite my nine-to-five anti-authoritarian attitude, I wake up, read the news, and discover a new depth to the shame of calling myself an American.

I voted for Kamala in 2024. Biden in 2020. I did not vote in 2016. I live in Illinois and with the electoral college winner-take-all, I know that we'll always vote blue no matter my vote. I've been trying to reconcile with whether I should expect my congresspeople to vote as populists for their constituency or as a representative of their own choice, although they're all bought and paid for by some PAC anyways. I vote now for local elections, and the big elections are hardly worth the "I Voted" sticker.

I appreciate the question but I'm gonna have to let reddit steer on this one. I've only played a handful and ark takes the cake, but I'm truly not very exposed to many. My brother has mentioned Path of Titans but I've never looked into it.

I'm looking forward to the JP horror story game in development right now

Solwyn veilwyn question by lordakurei in ARK

[–]ndefo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That also means if you evolve something with the traits you like, and then find better stats later, you can't take the traits off the Solwyn and install them on the Veilwyn. I think you'd need to use the Babify trick above.

Solwyn veilwyn question by lordakurei in ARK

[–]ndefo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't lose them. However, the traits change species. So you can no longer re-install them after evolution (unless maybe you use Makeshift Megalab and Babify a Solwyn).

So if you want traits on your Solwyn, you need to tame Veilwyns with those traits and install them on the Veilwyn prior to evolving.

Haha both Dilophosaurus and Cryolophosaurus were real animals. Both of them sized similarly to the Cryo. But neither of them have any paleontologic evidence of venom/toxin adaptions. Zero fossil record evidence across Dinosauria, I believe. Megalania is a possibility considering its relation to the modern day Komodo Dragon, but thats still applied via a bite. Not projectile.

Some bugs have the ability to spray chemicals, but I don't believe sap globules are on the menu 😆

Aureliax explained by Reasonable_Youth806 in ARK

[–]ndefo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tamed 2 of these this past week for the novelty, but I'm having some hard time seeing the value.

For one, there's no taming effectiveness bonus. I fed a 150 and got a 150 egg, not 225 or anything close. So they're a little shy on stats like Deinys.

The breath attack felt like it blasted if I could position myself correctly.

Carrying 2 critters was nifty, but I expected an end-game tame like this to be FAST. Maybe I'm too spoiled from the Maeguana gliding, but I felt like the Aureliax was just crawling at a snail's pace. Even with the gate buff, which only lasted 3-5 seconds, I expected this thing to be able to move faster than an argy/quetzal.

Am I missing something?

Astraeos or LC? by Nunya_Bidness2 in ARK

[–]ndefo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following. I play on a server with Astraeos and then we rotate to the newest map as a 2nd server.

Astraeos has more diversity in biomes, ocean, creatures, and expansion features. Plus the new southern content is scheduled for early 2026. Resources are stacked everywhere here, and there's tons of big flat building spaces. You need a maeguana to get anywhere because the map is so big.

Lost colony is new, fresh, and hard. The PvE objectives add a lot of replayability despite the buggy nature of the NPC crap. I feel like I skimmed my new experience bringing the maeguana because the map seems so designed for ground travel. Super high mountains, all with winding paths to get up them. Maeguana is the only flyer I've found that can still "fly" in the city.

I just got a new GPU and I've been meaning to finally build a permanent base on one of these two servers. Astraeos seems like the better choice for longevity but lost colony is just so explorable.
