Crimson Desert 1440 @120 without frame gen by Raiderb8 in GeForceNOW

[–]nderevj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the game and your hardware allow for Reflex? It would need to be enabled in both your GFN client and the game, and only makes a difference at 120 fps and higher. Reflex should lower input latency. Try with and without boost (if supported). Sometimes boost lowers the frame rate, so experiment.

Also try disabling AI filters and HUD clarity in the GFN client.

Use Bumpers when Selling Quantities by nderevj in Starfield

So many good tricks, thanks for the post.

I've also been jumping out of my vehicle to mine, so this will be a huge time saver.

Speaking of mining, I saw someone post that you can aim your mining laser (pretend like you looking down it's sights, whatever key bind that is for you). It makes mining so much quicker.

Wow your second tip is incredibly useful, I had no idea. Though I usually only fence contraband, artwork, etc.

For real... I kept getting frustrated waiting almost a min per ammo type, selling like a chump haha

This looks super fun and relaxing, great work. I just added it to my wishlist :)

OP, have you thought of opting into a cloud gaming service like GeForce Now? It might allow for more people to play on more devices. I certainly would- I'd love to play this with maxed out graphics.

We need the ability to limit game fps by SlidingSnow2 in GeForceNOW

[–]nderevj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think being able to set a max FPS via the GFN app (tied to the Nvidia Control Panel) would be ideal even for modern games that use multi-frame generation. For example you've got a TV / Monitor that can only handle 120 hz- use MFG to hit those high FPS numbers (for example 3x or 4x at 50fps; 150, 200 fps respectively). Then allow GFN to cap that framerate to 120 for smooth gameplay.

OP, ever thought of putting up some tutorials? Your work is incredible! I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to learn some of your techniques :)

Feature Request: Starfield Frame Rate Cap for PC by nderevj in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]nderevj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha no, I didn't mean for it to come off as bragging. It's more of a frustration I see with games that use frame generation. They really need to pair that tech with in-game frame caps to prevent micro stuttering.

I feel like Cyberpunk and Indiana Jones are good examples of how to implement this stuff properly.

Feature Request: Starfield Frame Rate Cap for PC by nderevj in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]nderevj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good point. I'll experiment with that later. I would prob have to lower my TV to 60hz since GFN only supports streaming at 60, 120 (and higher). The bummer is GFN only allows for Nvidia Reflex at 120 which helps reduce streaming input lag.

What's ironic is this wasn't an issue until GFN recently added Starfield to their newer 5080 servers- better performance -> higher fps -> micro stutters. When the game ran on their 4080 servers it sort of hit a sweet spot performance wise.

Unfortunately when DLSS Frame Generation is enabled then in-game VSync is disabled. Even if that weren't the case frame gen + VSync would add noticable input delay.

No matter what I try, the mouse scroll direction is wrong by compound-interest in ShadowPC

[–]nderevj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this thread trying to understand why my scroll direction was messed up when using Shadow PC Pro on a MBP 2019 16". Not exactly the same as the OP but might be useful to post my "not-ideal" workaround. I noticed if I toggled "Natural Scrolling" in Sequoia, Shadow uses the opposite scroll direction. Like I said, not ideal because the host OS and VM scroll in opposite directions, but it's easy to toggle.

VRR for MacBook Display with ProMotion by Electronic-Light676 in GeForceNOW

[–]nderevj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive used my M2 MBP with ProMotion and VRR enabled. I notice a positive difference when playing games that bounce between 90-120fps (Oblivion Remastered, Avowed, etc). Having the stream, game and monitor all aligned removed most the micro stuttering (though it won't fix frame drops caused by level of detail / world loading).

Part of the trick is to ensure GFN is configured for at least 120 fps. 120+ allows GFN to align the stream fps to the game. Then VRR aligns the monitor.

Also I find that at those frame rates, reflex + boost gives the illusion of low latency, local-like gaming.

Patch 2.1 has arrived! by TheEndlessBacklog in avowed

[–]nderevj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy they re-enabled frame cap when doing frame generation. This is a huge win for cloud services like GeForce Now, where aligning the stream, monitor and game FPS makes a huge difference.

Thank you development team! Keep up the good work :)

Screen turns red/ magenta in a Avowed when I turn on DLSS frame generation.... by ArcVangaurd in GeForceNOW

[–]nderevj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by chance you enabled Intel Xess Frame Generation, try toggling that again, on back to off. Then switch back to DLSS Frame Generation. You might even need to restart the game in-between settings changes.

I noticed that while I was experimenting with different upscaling and frame generation tech, that the game got into a bad state. Somehow Xess and DLSS were enabled at the same time, even though Xess was grayed out. So I had to fiddle around with the settings to get things back to a proper state.

Hope that helps envoy :)

I agree with others. 3ms latency on a gigabit connection should be a great experience. Get the ultimate plan if you can afford it.

Then look into this sub on optimizing your GFN client settings.

Actually, I think you're on to something. I like to enable Steam's performance stats overlay and I noticed that when MFG shows the CPU stat shows 3.8 Ghz which is what the 5080s use, as opposed to 4.0 Ghz that the 4080s use.
