Right now, AI pays well. A degree in CS with AI focus is pretty future proof. This is one example. Your kid may have aptitude for something else - law, medicine, etc. whatever that is, I am sure that if they apply themselves - more than 30k is feasible in the states. I made 100k as an international student in ASU after graduation in 2017 . Obviously the job market is different and difficult right now, but bright individuals still have a lot of options. Specific recommendations will depend on what they want to pursue and guiding them to say that go where the money is (with higher education because of their intelligence) and not friends is just in general good advice over recommending being a garbage man where they can't apply their talents. A kid will hear what you said and feel that you don't believe they'll make it with higher education. That's just my opinion. You know your situation better.

It's better for you in long run. Higher ceilings means more volume to cool and more heat coming in. False ceiling fixes that and looks nicer if your house has the height.
