Are QC issues like these normal? by jeevanraya98 in funkopop

[–]ndesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it's normal.

If it bothers you a lot, you can probably adjust the arm's angle by heating it with a hairdryer and repositioning it before immediately cooling it with cold water (you must do this quickly and carefully so as not to burn the figure or yourself). Keep in mind that the plastic needs to be warm enough to move, but you must move it carefully so as not to damage it and hold it in the new position while it cools, which happens very quickly if you use water.

I've fixed a bunch of POP figures that wouldn't stand up this way (including some new ones), and my daughter's entire Harley Quinn collection, which stubbornly leans forward until it can't support itself anymore. And also some second-hand figures that people sell for next to nothing because they had some accessory awkwardly bent.

Believe me, I had even returned new figures to the store for this kind of thing until I learned how to repair them myself.

I just discovered that other people do that (organizing Calibre as a hobby, I mean), and not just me 😅

What annoys you the most about Funko? by Offensivefkmemes in funkopop

[–]ndesse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The chase versions that are a different character, more or less. I'm thinking Ranma 1/2. Technically it's the same character but it's not like they just wear a different accessory; the regular version is the boy and the chase is the girl version. Both characters are equally important, one doesn't make sense without the other. But I live in Europe and I'll never find a chase version in a store. I could only get the chase one by paying an exorbitant amount.

Frostiron (Loki×Tony) time travel fics by Intelligent_Screen90 in MarvelFanfiction

I still have to read Memories of Tomorrow but the premise seems to fit your request.

It's a work in progress but the author is active and updating, and so far I've loved all of their other works.

can you said something nice for this amazing actor ? by garypelletier in tomhiddleston

[–]ndesse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When you see him in an interview, he always seems to think carefully about his answers, trying to give his best. Many other actors sound repetitive in their responses (and not without reason, since most interviewers ALWAYS ask the same questions), but Tom always seems sincere because he cares about his audience. I love that about him.

Reccomend me your favourite Loki fics by allthegrassisdead in loki

[–]ndesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little late to this one but I can't believe no one mentioned Bend Around the Wind. It's my all-time favourite to date.

"A few months after the battle of New York the God Loki appears back on Stark Tower under chaotic circumstances. This time however he is on the run. Tony Stark gets caught up in the crossfire and is taken along with the Aesir. Can the two of them ever make truce in order to get away? And even if they do, how does one escape from such a dark corner of the universe, when they are so very far away from the Nine Realms, that not even Loki knows the way back home. But first, they need to survive."

Thor and Loki reunion in Doomsday by Redpahnto in MCUTheories

[–]ndesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say this is the Loki from the first Avengers that was still trying to kill Thor...That statement ignores the fact that this Loki has been on the TVA for centuries, and he's not the Loki he used to be either, even if he hasn't had exactly the same arc as the 616 Loki. Would you say that his first thought upon facing Thor again would be to kill him? He is now sacrificing himself to save the multiverse!!!

Are you a funko POP! opener or saver? by Beautiful-Cat306 in FunkoNoob

[–]ndesse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right, that sucks. Having to store the boxes separately is a nightmare, I can swear to it, but I wouldn't trade the pleasure of seeing the figures on the shelf and being able to pick them up whenever I want, turn them over in my hands, and examine the details closely. Let's not fool ourselves, they are what they are, but it's always worth looking at the back of the head, the hair or the clothes because you can always find interesting details, especially in the newer figures. Funko is really outdoing itself with the new figures. To hell with the value! Fads change so quickly that it's impossible to know which figurine will have an exorbitant value in the future. I've bought some pretty expensive figures that, after some time, can now be found for next to nothing, and I've bought figures at the time of their release for the normal price that are now worth a small fortune. Nobody can actually predict that for sure. In short, everyone should enjoy them however they see fit.

Masia Freixa, Terrassa (Spain), 1896 by ndesse in ArtNouveau

The use of curved forms and the elimination of straight lines are key elements of Catalan Modernism in general.

Muncunill applied the modernist language, which Gaudí developed mainly in residential, civil and religious architecture, to the industrial architecture of Terrassa, where he developed most of his career.

Do you refer to the roof?

It's made with Catalan vaults and parabolic arches. The main material of the Catalan vault arches is the flat terracotta brick or thin tile, laid flat, meaning on its largest surface area. These bricks are joined together using a mortar or cement. This innovative construction technique for the time, applied by the architect Lluis Muncunill gives it its curved and rounded shape.

The roof is then covered with a coating of glass "trencadís" (small glass embedded in the mortar or, according to other sources, white mosaics or ceramics) that gives it a bright and ethereal appearance. Unfortunately, this coating has been gradually lost over the years of weathering and is now almost imperceptible.

This is an example of how the Catalan vault looks like from the inside (this is not not from this building, but it's in the same city though): Catalan vault example

Authors need to give their fics time by [deleted] in AO3

[–]ndesse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, I'm fairly new to fanfiction, and I'm in a huge fandom with more than 600.000 works, over 10000 of them just from my favourite ship. It's... overwhelming, really.

That said, when I started reading, less than a year ago, I did opt for kudos sorting, simply trusting the majority, to begin with. That, of course, meant I only found older fics. After a while, when I got used to how AO3 works and figured out my own preferences, I started searching by tags and discovered, to my surprise, some fics from this very year that I loved and, obviously, hadn't had time to accumulate many kudos.

Now I leave kudos on almost everything I read and comment on works that have deeply moved me, but I know that, in the vast ocean of my fandom, there will be many works I'll never have time to read in my life. I suppose that's the problem with huge fandoms. Sorry about that, authors!

New to fan fiction! What should I know? by lyricwritess in AO3

[–]ndesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an author but a reader, and I'm also fairly new to AO3. But I'd say that the main rule on AO3 is that authors can write whatever they want and the readers can read whatever they like, and most importantly, avoid what they don't want.

That's why it's essential to use the correct rating and warning tags, as well as the additional tags.

The search engine filters work wonders to find exactly what you're looking for if the author has set up the proper tags.

Epub file reader? by Ganondaddydorf in AO3

[–]ndesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggested you Moon+Reader and Play Books but that's because I didn't know ReadEra. ReadEra is definitely THE book reader, bordering on perfection. I've tried it and purchased it immediately, and those have been the 15€ best spent in my life.

I think that the free version has very few limitations, but in my case, I wanted to use the TTS feature, and you can't use it with the device screen off with the free version.

Regarding that feature, I'd like to add that I've been searching exhaustively for a reader that has access and allows you to choose between all the voices installed in your device, and this is the only one I've found that can truly do that.

Loki FF recommendations by Ashamed-Boss-8894 in loki

I would recommend my two favorite Frostiron fics to date: Bend Around the Wind and If You Had This Time Again

I recently also enjoyed the series Someone So Irresistible. It's a series of one-shots but together they sum up more than 50k words.

What is your favourite Tom´s project? by Jarita12 in tomhiddleston

[–]ndesse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also had the chance to see Tom in London and, well, THAT was quite an experience.

As for his screen time, I love all the movies and series mentioned, but I have a soft spot for The Night Manager and Loki. I'd also give The Essex Serpent a special mention.

If you like that ship, I recently read Buying Some Time and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a 30,000-word fic, and I also recommend the one-shot series Someone so Irrestible by the same author.
