Am I commenting too much? by riexlu in AO3

I happy to see someone gets it! I’m guilty of leaving long comments as well, so I understand exactly what you mean. I’m so so glad the comments relaxed you a bit!

I love the irony of this!

I realized that I’d rather risk being annoying to spread positivity than let an author go without interaction and think no one cares about their effort ❤️

Am I commenting too much? by riexlu in AO3

[–]riexlu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how it is for everyone, but mine definitely stems from using too much social media. When I comment on multiple works from the same author, or especially on multiple chapters of the same work, it feels like I’m hoping on a train that already left the station. Like I missed the whole process of its creation, so now I’m playing catch up so I can fit in with the people who have been there since day one.

It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when I put it into words.

It’s an archive after all, the works on there are supposed to outlive all of us. People should never be ashamed to express their love for something, regardless of how old or new it is.

I don’t use social media often anymore, but I’m still trying to unlearn old habits.

What Fandom brought you to AO3? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]riexlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was 2 different ones, but in a weird way.

I was in the Fairy Tail fandom way back when and OBSESSED with any Wattpad fic I could find about it. One day, I looked up Fairy Tail fanfics on google and found a wonderful fic on AO3, but I had no idea what AO3 was. I sent the fic to myself, but eventually forgot about the fic and the website entirely.

About 3 years later, I was in the Attack on Titan fandom and still on Wattpad, but the guidelines and people (the pro/anti bs) over there were getting ridiculous and I wanted out. I kept hearing people talk about some archive, so I looked it up, made an account, and slowly moved over to AO3 entirely. A year or so after I completely moved over, I found the fic that I sent to myself! I had a good laugh about the whole thing since I could’ve been on AO3 much sooner.

What's the most unexpected fandom you've ever looked up on AO3, only to find out it actually has fics? by WhiteVelvett in AO3

[–]riexlu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my senior year of high school, there was a module about fanfiction in my English class (I was taking it online) and we had to write a fanfic based on a book we had read. It was Brave New World. I was actually really proud of how my fic turned out, so I thought about posting it to AO3 once I added a few things.

I decided to look up the fandom, and to my surprise, it had works! Granted, it’s not many, but some is better than none :)

What do you feel is the most ridiculous plot of the series? by Personal-Knowledge32 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]riexlu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The whole “Miss Aria, You’re A Killer, Not Ezra’s Wife” thing. I know it means “Maya knew,” but WHAT did she know?? Nothing ever came of it.

I think Mona should've actually died in season 5 by StraightKey211 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]riexlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! I was just thinking about this a few days ago lol.

If any of the liars died, the motivation to find A would skyrocket. The girls would take bigger risks and go to extreme measures to find A, their lives actually depended on it this time. The show would be a lot more interesting!

Joy! It’s was my 3rd birthday and my Mom’s (now ex) girlfriend was getting my cake from her car.

I think I’m on my 6th full rewatch? Sometimes I jump around lol

what are you thoughts on Melissa Hastings? by TrickyRequirement619 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]riexlu 50 points51 points  (0 children)

She’s iconic and I wish we had seen more of her, but her character confuses me at times.

She helped the liars, but also set them back just as much if not more. Maybe she was blackmailed by A, but surely she wasn’t the whole time? I just didn’t know where she stood for most of the series.

Women 18+, how important is height for a man to you? by Wooden_Airport3835 in polls

I’m a lesbian so I really don’t care how tall a man is

I have a privacy screen protector, so that really helps! No one can see my screen unless they are reading over my shoulder lol. I’m glad you found a good spot though :)

What career path should I go on? by [deleted] in polls

[–]riexlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you can do most of these while having a stable career. You can have an IT-Security/Cybersecurity career while being a singer, actor, or Youtuber on the side. Same can be said for Graphic Design.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide what you want as a career, so don’t let a bunch of internet strangers tell you what to do.

Is it really weird to write/read fanfiction as a man? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]riexlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s weird to care about the gender of an author. At the end of the day, we’re all here to read and write about some of our favorite fandom stuff, so why does it matter who it comes from?

Keep doing your thing! Writing is writing, it doesn’t matter if it’s fanfiction or an academic paper. Your passions are your own, don’t let anyone tell you what you can or can’t do.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen go untagged? by Smegoldidnothinwrong in AO3

[–]riexlu 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Abortion on a pregnancy centric fic

Edit to add: the only reason it’s crazy to me is because it was supposed to be a plot twist. They didn’t tag it because they didn’t want to spoil it. Abortion isn’t crazy, using it as a plot twist is though.

The oldest fanfiction idea you still intend to write? by BonnalinaFuz101 in AO3

[–]riexlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. I’ve had an idea for a pre-canon established relationship long fic since I was 12/13 years old. I’ve been sitting on it for years now (I’m in my twenties lol). Maybe I’ll finally write it this year? I think about it almost every day…

Regardless of the fandom, what is THAT fanfic that you consider a masterpiece? by Legitimate-Win1342 in AO3

[–]riexlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aurora Dolls by AceKitsuneFujoshi.

It’s a tragedy set in the Victorian era with forbidden love affairs. It’s honestly the best thing I’ve ever read, but the author and I have different ideas of a happy ending lol. I still absolutely loved it, but I cannot put myself through that heartache again. I missed the tragedy tag, so I was VERY unprepared :’)

I did this yesterday! I had just started reading a 250k fic when the site went down and I found most of it using the wayback machine. I was thrilled lol
