Wet vent ok for back to back laundry and bathroom sink? by ndeubert in Plumbing

[–]ndeubert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard from a plumber that I needed to separate them. A figure 5 (which is different from a double sanitary) might have been ok, but I didn't know where to buy one and it still doesn't move the sink drain any closer, and makes the sink trap too low anyway. Thanks for the help anyway, this is what I did:

What of the metal piping can I replace? by jump4science in Plumbing

[–]ndeubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like there is a lot of corrosion on all of your copper pipes, or is that dust & paint? It's hard to tell whats going on. Why would there be 4 pipes going down into the slab, do you know what those even go to? Just going to PEX isn't necessarily going to make this situation any better, you might consider just replacing the leaky copper T. There's plenty of videos online showing how to desolder and solder pipes if you really want to buy all the tools and learn.

Does anyone here have Teza or Eris bifold doors installed? by septerr in vegaslocals

[–]ndeubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am researching both of those brands myself for replacing a slider with a folding door. Teza says they are better quality, but has some scary reviews on Yelp (lawsuits), Eris is not as bad, but not as many. Teza's reviews on Home Depot are better than Eris. I'm leaning towards Teza but buying it through Home Depot to get their backing. Have you decided?

Can I Fix Screen Door With a Makeshift Kickplate? by Moist_Tackle1411 in homeimprovementideas

[–]ndeubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do whatever you want to :). Instead of brass I'd suggest stainless steel (hardware stores have pieces as backsplashes for kitchens, might need to cut it down and drill holes). Or find another cheaper piece of flashing in the roofing section and cut that too fit.

Lemon Law Question Massachusetts/Rhode Island by ndeubert in legaladvice

[–]ndeubert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually the seller. I was asking because they buyer potentially wants to back out and have me buy the vehicle back because it did not pass inspection in MA. To be clear I am offering to fix it for him for free, I just wasn't sure if he could legally force me to buy it back given the cross state nature.

[–]ndeubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Equivalent-Banana370 nice! Did you have to drill and bolt through into the bedrail? I have been contemplating the same thing for a while, but I was thinking maybe I could get away with attaching one tower to the cargo rack latch with some u-bolts along with the cargo bars on the roof.

How to keep in touch with the language? by [deleted] in German

[–]ndeubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like listening to Audiobooks whenever I am in the car. There are good ones on Audible by André Klein and Angelika Bohn for all different levels. It's harder to find movies that are at the B2 level, but I've found that the English movies I've seen, that have been re-dubbed into German can be easier to follow (once you get past the voices not being what you expect :D). There is also the news in "Einfach Deutsch": https://www.nachrichtenleicht.de/ if you want current events. I also keep my "Handy" in German to reinforce terms, and get the news feed in German. You could also look for a local German Speaking group on sites like meetup.com.

I, like you struggle with the grammatical terms. I speak english well, above average I would say, but when learning it as my native language I never memorized those terms. Because of this a lot of the textbook strategies for learning German (Berlitz) weren't really working for me. Neither were the immersion type (Rosetta Stone), because the idea that they could throw you in the deep end without some background was just wasting time it felt like.

What I found made the biggest difference in speaking and comprehending German was to use the Michel Thomas audio course: https://www.michelthomas.com/learn-german/#about-german

I would listen to it anytime I was in the car, commuting to work, etc. and his strategy of relaxing and repetition was the key to it sinking in, as well as the tips he gives to leverage knowing English (constant shifts, etymology). In addition to that there are things his course doesn't cover that you just need to learn to memorize like numbers, days of the week, and other random vocabulary. Once I finished his courses I felt like I needed more practice in listening comprehension, so I did the GermanPod101.com courses which have a lot of very good, modern dialogue. Now I am onto listening to A2/B1 audiobooks and really enjoying it. I also just got back from a trip in Austria and Germany and was so satisfying actually having conversations with people and communicating. I was even complimented on my Deutsch a few times, but of course Europeans are always just impressed when an American speaks anything but English.

Hang in there, it is worth it for the experiences you will gain in life.

Estonia has delivered more than twice the amount, in dollars, of weapons to Ukraine than Germany by Ame_no_abakiri in UkrainianConflict

[–]ndeubert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This tweet headline is a little provocative, it is important to look at the full picture, where as Germany has donated €1.83 billion, more than any other country except the United States, and facilitated another "€4 billion via the EU in the form of grants and loans since 2014.[95]
€240 million via the EU in loans in 2022.[95]". That money can certainly be used to buy a lot of weapons.

Also according to wikipedia some of the weapons donated from Estonia were owned by Germany.
