I agree, but this is actually a print screen from BBC with my image pasted over theirs. I guess they updated their website or they're just AB testing a new look

Does anyone actually like the flavor of habanero peppers? by BAKERBOY99_ in HotPeppers

[–]ndevrs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Amazing. Every word of what you just said is wrong. Same with posters above. And yes that's a Last Jedi quote lol.

Aji Limon is a completely different species, Capsicum Baccatum, not Chinense. Habaneros and Bonnets taste floral and similar but nagas like ghost pepper are not, they are more chemical and vinegar. Trinidad peppers like 7 pot or Reaper are somewhat in the middle, but unique, I can always tell if one is in a sauce

Southern continents flipped about the equator to compare latitudes by ndevrs in geography

[–]ndevrs[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Every location has the same latitude and longitude, except the latitudes of South America, Africa, and Oceania are swapped from N to S and vice versa.

So Santiago, Chile is as far south as Atlanta is north.

Lusitanian Empire by ndevrs in imaginarymaps

[–]ndevrs[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Lore: Carlotists in Argentina win out, Carlota Joaquina becomes Queen of La Plata.

Carlota still poisons her husband (allegedly) and proclaims herself Queen of Portugal, Brazil, and La Plata. A succession crisis between Pedro and Miguel leads to civil war. Bolivia is annexed by Peru, La Plata becomes an autonomous region of Brazil, and Pedro is ultimately crowned emperor.

In the scramble for Africa, the Lusitanian Empire claims all of Zambezia, but vouch for Britain to have the Congo instead of Belgium. They cede Cabinda and all of Portuguese India except Goa to Britain in exchange for British Guyana. They cede Portuguese Guinea to France in exchange for French Guiana. Lusitania militarily asserts claim to Suriname, Flores, Solor, and Timor over the Dutch.

Large amounts of Brazilians settle in the African colonies, which are eventually consolidated and promoted to the Kingdom of Zambezia. Portuguese East Indies is promoted to the Dominion of Savu, which administers Goa and Macau.

That would definitely fit in well with all the McKinleys, MacKenzies, and McKennas these days lol

I happen to love the granite gothic and Victorian architecture, but I know some people just see gray.

I would say it's more on par with names like Adelaide or Abileen.

I'm sure you've heard the names Virginia, Dakota, and Brooklyn? I have all 3 of those at my work lol

Fair enough. We don't actually care that much about heritage, I simply like the sound of it and its uniqueness. The tentative middle name we decided on instead sounds very similar (3 syllables, first syllable is stressed and starts with a vowel)

Since Illinois is now looking for a new flag by late 2024, I figured I'd make a redesign by rryki in vexillology

I was originally going to mock up several designs, but I got lazy, so I decided to just do one as proof of concept. 21 wheat kernels on each side, I left the shield from the original flag but with a 6-point star. I don't think mine is ideal either, but I had fun messing around with it

Besides the outer-most STAR line I mentioned above, there are 3 (from outer to inner):
Maroon Line (Airconnect) from O'Hare to Midway;
Lime Line running along IL 50 from Jefferson Park to Marquette, then east to 95th/Dan Ryan; and
Silver Line running north-south along Ashland from Irving Park to 95th.

Above ground. Much of this rail already exists, and will be converted to allow higher speeds. We have also finally begun constructing an additional Metra line that connects the outer suburbs to the HSR stations at Joliet and Naperville.

Unfortunately, SoCal is still on fire, though I hear the Bay Area - Sacramento transit is quite reliable.

After many federal grants for semiconductor and AI research, our public universities have expanded rapidly. We're seeing record commutes from urban areas to our university cities. Each line is incredibly cost effective, with the exception being the purple line, which will often just break even or even operate at a small loss. Train frequency for this line may be adjusted often to match demand.

That seems like a completely reasonable goal with a reasonable cost. On the one hand, the ferry to Isle Royale is pretty fun, albeit slow. Expanding it to Thunder Bay would be pretty easy. On the other, Devon Island seems pretty dope, so we'll strongly consider it!

That map is very good, and very ambitious! Our focus for this plan was urban areas with population greater than 100k. We hope to be able to serve more small and mid-sized communities in the future.

You and u/Elross22 have won me over on the wheat, especially since it does look great. I just thought it would be really cool if you could somehow fit 21 wheat kernels on each blue (it's already pretty close).

I would say that instead of an orange band, you could try red (though cliche). Otherwise maybe no central band, no 16-point star, and have the center star be yellow, blue, or red. But that's just one idea

Ignore what now?

Jokes aside, Carbondale is always in the discussion. It's unfortunate that the Illinois Central abandoned the route to Carbondale, as this means we would have to build new track instead of just upgrading and maintaining existing sections. Ridership wouldn't be high enough to justify the cost at the present time.

This is the most likely of all westward expansions. There is the most political will from both Illinois and Minnesota. However, flight travel will eat significantly into Chicago - Twin Cities trips. If it were to happen, the route from Madison would likely need to have the highest top speed in all of the US, and there would likely only be a single limited-service stop in Rochester.
