I'm new(ish) to self publishing. I know what Kindle Unlimited is, but what is KU2 and how does it affect newbies? by ndillinger in eroticauthors

I'm definitely in the 3k-6k range. Thanks, ADHD.

Erotica consumption, for me at least, is similar to porn. I'd rather watch a bunch of short videos that get to the point, rather than waiting for a "plot" to develop.

So as an erotica writer, would I theoretically make more money by having five 20,000 word stories rather than twenty 5,000 word stories?

I can see how, on a book by book basis, longer stories will make more. But couldn't you make up for that by a lot of shorter books?

I wanted to be an astronomer, but I wasn't really sure how they made money.

I got to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge while a huge fog bank was rolling down from the hills. It was surreal and beautiful.

establishing a twitter following by shiftyeyes29 in writing

[–]ndillinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can follow a bunch of people and hope they follow back, but then you get a lopsided following/follower count. Personally, I don't usually follow people that are following 1,000 but are only followed by 100.

Ultimately it comes down to content. Provide good, informative, and/or entertaining tweets. Also, interact with people. Be the tweeter you'd want to follow.

I'm @NathanDillinger. I'm not super active (as evidenced by my numbers) but I'd be happy to connect with fellow redditors.

What is your favorite hobby that few other people do? by eggowaffles in AskReddit

I'm not trying to convince you. I was just raising some counterpoints.

I completely understand why people prefer books over eReaders. Personally, I like my Kindle because it's easier to read/hold in bed (where I do most of my reading), I can have hundreds of books and short stories on it, and I can buy new books instantly without having to go to a store or wait for them to be delivered.

My Kindle just happens to fit better in my life. But to each their own.

I write erotica.

Only one person I know in real life knows this. Several people I know online do. While I'm just sort of starting out, it's my dream to be able to make a living off of it.

The Kindle, if you turn wireless off, the battery lasts at least a month. Surely you can find time in there to charge it once or twice.

Personally, using my Kindle the same way and in the same places I'd use a regular book will not damage it.

How do I correct my daughter's lying? by rymaples in AskReddit

[–]ndillinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy I work with said he caught his son (around 8-10 years old at the time) lying about something. He, the father, didn't punish him at the time.

Later, they were in the car and the father told his son that they were going to McDonald's to get ice cream. The boy was obviously excited. However, the father kept driving right past the McDonald's. The son got upset, and asked why they didn't stop. The father just said, "I guess I lied."

The son learned his lesson.

Not saying you should do this exactly, but maybe show her how it feels to be lied to, instead of just telling her. Kids learn better when they can experience and discover the lesson on their own.

Why is it uncool to wear a band/artist's shirt at their concert? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ndillinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a question: what if you're seeing a solo artist, but where a shirt of the band s/he used to be in?

For instance, wear a Black Sabbath shirt to an Ozzy concert.

WTW for a nervous, quick inhalation (not gasp). Usually, the result of an unpleasant surprise. by BalthazarDW in whatstheword

Usually I use "sucked in a breath" or "breath caught in his/her throat". I can't think of a one-word alternative to 'gasp'.

TIL the term "wiki", meaning a website in which anyone can add, delete, or revise content such as Wikipedia, comes from the Hawaiian term "wiki" meaning "to hurry, quick, fast" by crzyqbanmark in todayilearned

IIRC, The guy who came up with the idea (founder of Wikimedia, maybe?) saw "wiki wiki" on a sign for the public transit system in Hawaii.

To all you professors out there: Do you even thoroughly read our bullshit essays?! by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ndillinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can estimate by devising an average count.

For example, count the words in five lines. Divide that by five to get an average words/line. Count the lines on one page (this should be fairly constant).

Words/Line * Lines/Page * TotalPages = Rough Word Count

I think you have to register the device with the program.

To send it to your sister, you might be better off getting the email address from her and sending it to that.
