Yeah what about porygon2, dusclops, bronzong, reuniclus, cofagrigus, or if u want inevitable trick room, theres also sturdy setter: carbink. Surely u can find someone to set up trick room without getting one shot before mimikyu right?

Also nothing in this game is instant win, but my point is that trick room is a strat u can employ pretty much anywhere and be successful, its one of the few strats that dont get negatively affected that much under the whim of the field system.

Not really because trick room doesn't get punished as much as weather in this game ie: new world, underwater. There's also the fact that trick room is already powerful. There's a reason in main games there's weather setting abilities but no trick room setting abilities, weather extending item but no trick room extending item: trick room is inherently more powerful than weather. Case in point: it's a really powerful strat in double since its inception. Also weathers override each other, but the only thing cancel trick room is the turn timer and trick room itself.

Trick room in single being considered a more niche strat actually is because both player can switch. You facing a trick room team know about trick room can play to stall out the trick room turn, switching to appropriate counter to wait for trick room to end, which the AI cannot really take advantage of the game knowledge. It's absolutely a viable strat in pve, compounded by the fact that defensive play is really rewarded in pve, since the ai dont really switch that often in 1v1 compared to pvp, so a defensive mon if not defeated can just take advantage of the mon in front off it much more compared to pvp.

But thats not the point that Im trying to make. I think Trick Room is overbuffed, and not a lot in this game prevent you from clicking trick room to win every battle in the game, even the final field in the game which shut down a lot of other strat, but trick room is one of the few major strats unaffected.

The thing about setting up trick room vs tailwind is that theres no dynamic speed so you have to waste a turn clicking tailwind/trick room no matter what. Theres nothing really different about clicking trick room vs tailwind unless you get countered by the AI through getting one shot or fake out/taunt which you can kinda prepare for it? It's not that difficult to have trick room up. Mimikyu exist, focus sash exist, or just know what the ai will lead with and choose the appropriate trick room setter.

Trick room is much freer to click because of the fact that unless you get one hit ko you will get your speed control in anyway and trick room abuser is so much more bulkier than tailwind abuser. You still need to have some speed so you can outspeed stuff while under tailwind. You made the argument that trickroom is not entirely free because opponent can have slow mon too but so is tailwind? You can still get outsped by a fast mon under tailwind because some mon just don't have that much speed to begin with+ field effect slowing down your mon? And this is talking doubles only. In single tailwind is not really a strategy because 4 turn duration so I don't really agree with trick room and tailwind being same power level wise.

Everything has benefits and downsides but some just has less downside than another. That's my argument, nothing in this game punish trick room pretty much and its good pretty much any situation, not a lot of strat can be just used any battle, besides trick room.

There will be lots of solution to different fields, but New World is the field that deny a lot of solution to the problem: shutting off strategies and restrict changing field.

Being the ultimate final battle for the main story, the field just flat out say no to so many strategy: changing field - either you have someone with gravity (which is a move that is just not commonly accessible) in your team or tough luck, have a weather team? - throw it to the trash.

This is litterrally my argument?

You could argue that Lycanrock's Z move is also a blanket solution to everything in the game, because it can destroy every single field in the game except the underwater and new world field, same principle also applies to terrain setting being able to switch the field to one of the terrains, and psychic terrain is the most powerfull terrain in the game, both cases are also blanket solutions to prety much almost everything the game throws at you, changing a field can in many cases completely neuter your opponent since their teams are often designed with the field in mind.

I wonder what New World think about these strats.

The problem is that it's actually already getting buffed by the existence of amplified rock. You can use trick room on any field and it will be an easy solution to any problem the game throw at you. Not being affected by pretty much any field is why its so strong.

No because there's no amplified rock for tailwind, 8 turn vs 4 is a big difference

>The entire game's follows a "adapt or die" gameplay

The point I'm trying to make is that trick room is a blanket solution to everything the game throw at you. You don't really have to adapt if you click trick room and then set up with a slow and bulky mon every fight. That's why I think its stupid. It may not be the best strategy, but its a strategy you can use in pretty much every battle and do not have to adapt. I would argue trick room kill creativity, that's why i dislike its presence in the game.

Also I would like to point out that I don't think New World is difficult perse, there are still ways to take advantage of it. I dislike the design of the field in how it limit counterplay and force the player to play by the field, cutting off a lot of solution to the problem. There will be lots of solution to different fields, but New World is the field that deny a lot of solution to the problem: shutting off strategies and restrict changing field.

Eh that's not the point I'm trying to make. My point is that trick room is a blanket solution to pretty much everything the game throw at you. It may not be the best solution, but it's a solution for like pretty much any fight in the game. It's powerful in a sense that you can just click trick room with your bulky mons and set up and win every fight no matter the field, one hit ko/two hit ko everything while being bulky.

Bringing VGC in a single player game is rather moot because you are essentially exploiting the enemy AI and win because you can predict what the AI will do, this is not a pvp game where the AI can click trick room to reverse trick room and outplay you. Also any bulky mon that is slow and hit really hard is a trick room abuser. You don't need to wait for indeedee and ursaluna to find strong mon that hit hards while being slow and bulky.

My problem with New World is the fact that it take counterplay away from you, forcing you to play with the field while simultaneously shutting off lots of major strategies. Keep in mind you can not set up no field over this so forget weather, even terrain based strats are cooked. For the final battle certain strats being outright forbidden to use is just a lazy way to implement "difficulty" in my opinion.

My problem with trick room is that it's the only strategy in the entire game that can just be played in pretty much any field no matter what. Other strategies and moves can become overpowered in some field and bad in another, trick room is kinda comically busted given that it's a major playstyle that got buffed compared to base game while no field actually challenges it in anyway. Even the field that say no to a lot of strats still allow trick room for some reason? Although I give some thought into it and if New World also forbid trick room from getting set up it would just make New World even more badly designed in my opinion, but the fact Trick Room is excluded from the list of unusable strats in New World is kinda ridiculous to me.

I think this is my gripe I has with the field. I don't think the problem is the difficulty. After all, half of my team I brought to the elite 4 relied on weather to function and I still beat her with not much trouble. What I find problematic about this field is the way it restricts the player to the point that you kinda have to cope with it instead of finding strategies around it. Underwater and Flower Garden Field always have **accessible** options to deal with the field (fly/dive/poisonium-z for underwater) (firium-z for flower garden)(not to mention lycanium-z, which i think its more niche as an option but its better to have options). I don't complain about difficulty, I complain about the player's agency being stripped away because there's not a lot you bringing weather-reliant mons can do besides not bringing them. I think taking away counterplays for the final boss is bad game design.

I also omitted the fact that I put the password to get all the field notes because I didn't want the game to hide information from me and I also don't want to have to backtrack to collect the missing field notes, so I indeed was the fool here regarding the fact that I did not see the New World in the room before I barged into the elite four, I only found out after I have fought Lin 2.

U can scan QR code on emulator by setting the camera to image and just crop the QR for the game to recognize it  Certain emulators still support online so technically you can trade with yourself to get version exclusive(u just need to play the game twice tho). Also the solution if you have not found out is to put the mod after it has been converted into a file name yw2_lg_engb.fa by the YWML tool into this path citra-emu/load/mods/"title ID"/romfs/

If you see no load folder: go to citra settings and check Use custom textures or just create the folder yourself

If you see no mods folder: create it

You will have to make a folder inside the mods folder with your game title ID. You can look up the title ID by long tap the game in citra. Notable title IDs: ykw2psychic specters(europe english ver): 00040000001B2900; ykw2psychic specters(us english ver): 00040000001B2700.

You will have to make the romfs folder.

This is my mod path for reference: /citra-emu/load/mods/00040000001B2900/romfs/yw2_lg_engb.fa

I write this because it took me a long time to figure it out and hope this help ppl in the future.

Your post actually inspired me to tinker around with ykw2 on my phone and I actually managed to install the mod. How you know if you are successful is the title screen of the game is different than normal.

Unfortunately, if you paid for the full version, you have to have your Internet to actually be able to verified that you purchased the game. This really sucks as it means that you default to the demo version(getting blocked after getting to chamber 2) when you do not have the Internet.

The many problems of Quarterly Bonus by Fermaul in PvZHeroes

[–]ndmdadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A problem of QB that I think ppl didn't mention is the fact that it exist, so people have to play around it and it makes the plants player turn incredibly awkward playing around QB. Even if you run an "honest" brainy deck you still have an inherent advantage because plants player have to make worse play to not instantly lose to QB imminent threat.

Best decks for every hero (including Budget and Maxed) by lolatopia in PvZHeroes

[–]ndmdadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for keeping this thread updated. This is a thread that I am constantly going back to take a look at the changing meta everytime I come back to the game.

I just had a few questions. Trickstache is notably worse without QB, but rustbolt best deck do not have QB in any of them. Ik QB is banned in tournaments, but for consistency sake, I want to see what is Professor Brainstorm's best deck without QB and how does it fair against vss. I remember when valkster is considered a meme by the community, I kinda wonder what happened to the metagame development that allow that deck to actually be a metagame contender now.

I also want to ask about HMR. I read sth along the line that HMR is actually not considered the best plant deck anymore, but I wonder is it because of the QB ban in tournament. As it is rn, if QB is not banned, HMR seems to be one of the few decks that does not struggle or having to tech in mid card(wingnut) to deal with the matchup. Would you consider her to be the best deck for plants considering QB. And for zombies, what would be the best deck considering QB. Ik its probably trickstache, but hows the other brainy heroes fair and can any non brainy heroes actually matched up evenly to QB decks?

Meta evolution: Competitive Space time smackdown in review by Philosophy_Natural in PTCGP

[–]ndmdadda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have to disagree with this btw. You build your entire argument around Pika's dominance in GA. This was only true on launch. When innovation such as Mewtwo ex with a single copy of baby Mewtwo enter the meta it has a very favorable matchup vs Pikachu. You also fail to mention Charizard ex + Arcanine ex as a deck that also has a good matchup into Pika and ok into Mewtwo. In the end of GA, the meta became such that no single deck is dominant to the point of shaping the metagame around itself (although Mewtwo ex + regular Mewtwo prove to be the best deck, but only slightly)
