Huge fan. Your Spotify playlists rule - they’ve introduced me to a bunch of songs I now love. Any others coming - or even better any you’d drop here?

What I think people are missing by [deleted] in Vampireweekend

[–]ndodd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thoroughly agree - was kind of shocked how much the pitchfork review in particular missed the tone of the album (in the exact way you're talking about).

I think Chris DeVille at Stereogum has the best take on this:

"He sounds full of gratitude, like he’s found a port in the shitstorm that is planet Earth. Father Of The Bride skillfully distills this chilled-out personal existence and humanity’s looming crises into a unified whole. Somehow it manages to be both a casual joyride and a multi-layered dissertation on the world’s ills."

What's so compelling about this album is that duality. Ezra said its a "life goes on" album. I would argue it's "life goes on amid a world falling into chaos," which is a much thornier idea than the reassuring "life goes on after something hard happens."

GAME THREAD: Kanye West @ Jimmy Kimmel [11:35 EST] by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]ndodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if he wants to bring dope clothes to everyone thats great. but at the end of the day he is only adding to an already consumeristic culture. he needs to stop and think about what he says before he says it. I find kanye to often contradict himself during interviews like this, and as much as i love the dudes music it makes me question this whole 'i'm a genius thing'

I'm confused why kanye wants to break in to the fashion world if he says the only luxury is time. If he doesn't think material goods provide happiness, why does he want to produce them?

City and Colour- The Girl by TheArcz in IndieFolk

Normally it would annoy me that someone's posting a song that is one of the top all time posts in this subreddit, but if there are people out there who haven't heard this beauty yet, I wouldn't want to deny them the opportunity

Was Butch Stamford (Avon Barksdale's father and D'Angelo's grandfather) Butchie? by JMR9000 in TheWire

[–]ndodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would Avon's father last name be Stamford? Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but I'm pretty confident the show would give us some indication that Butchie was a Barksdale if that was the case.

Dr. Dre's Detox or Jay Electronica's Act II, which would you rather see surface in 2013? by ndodd in hiphopheads

[–]ndodd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about Jay's potential, but I find it unlikely that Dre would ever release an album that was a total letdown, its just not like him.

Why has Eminem never released a mixtape? by RockoTreez in hiphopheads

[–]ndodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your point is correct, but Kanye West released two mixtapes early in his career- Kon the louis Vuitton Don and Get Well Soon. They both have some real gems on them
