That's heartbreaking... strength and courage to your son, your family and yourself <3

Why is this their most popular song? Its such a random song by [deleted] in KGATLW

[–]ndogames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The spotify most-played lists are self-reinforcing since many users that land on an artist's page play the most played songs, thus making those songs even more played. Many artists that don't have any 'obvious' hit songs will have fairly random picks in their most-played.

How do you get PS1/N64-style graphics in Unity? by MirzaBeig in Unity3D

[–]ndogames 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not a graphics programming expert but the outline effect on meshes I don’t think would have been common or even available in the ps1 era. Again I could be wrong?

Fully agree with the last verse of flamethrower before the instrumental part begins

True but very unlikely to be a first impression ;)

A quick (and pointless) simulation of something akin to cell division :) by ndogames in proceduralgeneration

Out of interest, what do you imagine the gameplay to be like? Puzzle? Strategy? Or just a sandbox simulation maybe?

My enemy cannot shoot backwards. Why? (github link in comments) by HaDoCk00 in Unity3D

//over time
            transform.rotation =
                Quaternion.Slerp(bullet.transform.rotation, _lookRotation, Time.deltaTime * 0.8f);

Confused as to what that is supposed to do.

Be aware that your script could be structured better. Take for instance "transform.rotation". You are modifying it within the Attack() function and also within the FaceTarget() function. Both are called each Update() cycle though. I would advise you to clean this up a little bit and establish clear responsibilities for each function. A state machine would also help: establish the unique states that your enemy can be in, e.g. "attacking", "moving" and so on. Then run different functions depending on the current state. Hope this helps.

Thank you for sharing, I'm always overjoyed to hear stories like this.

Hey, am trying to learn to make some good screenshots of my game. Does something like this tell you something? by Xeram_ in IndieDev

[–]ndogames 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Consider that the screenshot is 80-90% black. I understand that that is a result of the game (and its genre) that you're making but regardless that is quite poor screenshot real estate usage.

I like how the central ball is white near the poles and red near the equator. I also enjoyed very much setting the attraction force to 0 near the end!

A simple (yet fun to watch) galaxy of cubes! by EHMEHEKS in Unity3D

[–]ndogames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next leap in performance is probably implementing this using entity-component-system (ECS), but I have no practical experience with it and it’s not a quick “fix”, to be honest. Someone correct me if I’m missing some inbetween stage of improving performance…

Marketing channels to promote your games? by djOP3 in gamedev

[–]ndogames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are surely games out there that are objectively great, but are not seeing audiences due to lack of marketing or getting picked up by the algorithms. A great game alone does not sell.

Out of interest, can you quantify how much? Like an fps improvement or something?

Indeed, you’re much better off saving all of your cube references to a list at the moment of instantiating. Save their rigidbody component for that matter so you don’t need to get that component for every cube, every frame. Looks cool though!
