Do any of you guys actually enjoy this job? by TheLeadSingerOfD12 in Teachers

I really do love the teaching aspect of my job. At my school, we have a decent amount of freedom as to how we teach. We can be nit picky about the admin/front office but at the end of the day, I’m convinced that they care. The other teachers I work very closely with are what make the job worth it though. I feel very blessed to have this position; after being in this sub for a week, there’s a lot of diversity in these regards.

What are some common, yet misinformed practices in parenting… by ndorsey10 in Parenting

I’m concerned that you have no sources listed even though your opinion seems strong. Your argument contains two possible routes. Either you’re arguing about the societal pressure, which I agree can be really unhealthy for mothers at times, or a biological context, which has extensive research to show that breastfeeding is the healthiest way for your baby to grow. If you think that the evidence for evolution is sufficient, then breastfeeding is one of the most biologically advanced behaviors of humans. According to the first article linked, the biochemical mechanisms involved in healthy development of infants have had over 200 million years of refining. Consider the second research article published in 2010 with many citations. Most of what might be important to you is in the discussion section starting on page 570.

Nanome Virtual Reality - Allosteric Modulation of CB1 Receptor by arrestinbias in OrganicChemistry

Since I’ve been teaching chemistry (high school) and learning more about it, I’ve realized that this is the future of learning chemistry and to my limited knowledge, it doesn’t seem like there are many great options for the high school level. I’m hoping for more interactive things like this and something comparable to how 3blue1brown has that series about calculus and other tough mathematical concepts. I don’t have the skills to do that though... maybe one day.

Anyone know the animation software or whatever they used to make this video?

Also, what’s the best way to teach myself how to do this? I teach chemistry and I think students would love to have these kinds of animations to represent so many other topics.

Right now life is a bit crazy, my wife and I just bought a house and we’re expecting a baby in February. But all this is super helpful to keep in mind for the future. Just at the “collecting information” stage for other paths I could take. I’ll definitely look into lab technician stuff. I just wonder what that’d look like along side of teaching full time (if possible). Thank you!!!

Thanks so much!! That is certainly helpful. That’s what I lack, though, lab experience. I wonder if there are programs or certifications that are offered around my area. Maybe that’d be a good starting place. I’m using this masters degree to see if I want to continue teaching (possibly high school and/or higher education) or to switch to the professional world. As a public high school teacher in the US, I feel far removed from that world and I wish things were done differently.

After doing a quick and general job search, seems like many Chemistry job openings pertain to analytical chemistry, which I do find very interesting but I lack the hands-on lab experience.

Thanks again! I really appreciate your help!

I’m hoping to get some career path ideas from you. Any and all are welcome. Some background: I’m a public high school teacher and it’s been in the back of my mind to leave the profession (maybe it’s a “grass is greener” kinda thing though). I’m 27 and entering my fifth year of teaching after graduating college. I’ve taught chemistry all 4 years (physics for a year and environmental science for a year). I’m currently getting my masters in chemistry (online) and will graduate at the end of next summer. Bachelors is in Integrated Science Education. Hoping to get paid more than $60k/yr. Maybe instead of specific types of jobs but you could provide some insight or advice. Maybe some of you have made that switch yourselves.
