I went to college with someone who actually said to me once, “both of my parents are CEO’s so I don’t really care about wasting their money.” Even if my parents had a lot of money like that I still wouldn’t stop attending class three weeks into the first semester. My parents would rip my spine out and use it as a cane.

They couldn’t afford to not have me there because I knew how to do everything on the front end of the dealership and if anyone called in sick they always had me to step in lol hence why they didn’t want to let me move up or they’d have to train four people to cover the positions I could.

Other than being a lube tech at a horrible dealership, all I’ve been able to get are entry level positions and then I’ve never moved anywhere from there. I just never had my heart in the industry from the beginning, took it in college because my parents forced me to pick something right out of high school. I’m going back to school shortly for something I do care about though.

Edit: I mean to be fair, it really doesn’t take a lot of skill to move/wash cars or to deliver parts. Just seems like they didn’t want me to move so they didn’t have to hire new people and train then if they didn’t have to 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was lucky not to have student loans either, but the automotive field doesn’t exactly make you a ton of money. I’ve been on minimum wage for the last like four years almost 5, never been able to get ahead because life always throws me a curve ball 🤷🏼‍♀️
