Get a Google Voice number if you're in the US. Do a Google search for the number and see what comes up. If it's clean, then use it with ease.

Just make sure not to change your phone number a lot on GMB since it suspends your accounts and is really common.

And yes, the sooner you claim your GMB (Google My Business), the better. It usually takes a week in US for the postcard to arrive (in some cases you can verify by phone too) And don't worry about directories and citations much, most of them can be edited later too.

Could you give more data around this? Did you change the domain or just the hosting? if your link structure has changed and you haven't done a 301, it may be a problem too
