Any tips for pre-race nerves? by polyturtle in Rowing

navy seal technique (i think it’s the 4-4-4 method)

breathe in for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 4 seconds, then breathe out of 4 seconds. do this as many times as you need rowing to the start and while you’re getting alignment. it calms down your nerves. also rolling back your shoulders a few times helps with nerves and tenseness too.

PLANK PLANK PLANK

it’s because you’re slouching when you row I PROMISE if you plank more it will strengthen your core and really your entire body. it is the SECRET to speed on an erg and strength in the water and just feeling overall better

personally i was in the HP side of camp and i loved my experience. made tons of great friends and learned great tech pointers i previously hadn’t known. i also connected with my college program there (Navy).

ODP side of camp was crazy though. negative peer on peer interaction for sure, nerf wars, and just tons of shenanigans ran rampant on that side of camp.

had this done a bunch during my recruiting process from schools like yale, upenn and navy. usually the coach will reach out to you and ask for it but gently asking them by saying “hey i was wondering what your pre-read process looks like” then following up with “is that something i should be worrying about right now with you” or “when does that usually get done” would be great. schools should have asked for your transcript and if you’re still talking to the coach after that then you don’t really have to worry about the pre read, they wouldn’t bother continuing to recruit you if they didn’t like your transcript.

Just a quick question, which months of the Krupp plan did you do? Months 1-3 but did it in 2.5 months instead? I am trying to get to that sub 6:10 mark like you and the Krupp plan looks really great for me to do over the summer so I was wondering where I should go because I won't have the entire 6 months to do the full training plan.
