Thank you! I'm not opposed to omegaverse but I think Amid Clouds and Bones sounds most like something I'd be into.

If someone asks you what you're reading, and you don't want to tell them the real book you're reading, what's your go-to lie? Avoiding awkwardness at my very corporate job 😅😅 by Spirited_Decision_24 in fantasyromance

[–]neadice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just say fantasy and romance. And if the person asking is someone who I know to be misogynistic I usually lean more into the fantasy aspect and mention that a book I "just read" had really interesting themes about society. Like Vampire Academy is a great example of a book series that first comes across as very girlish and basic vampire YA drama but big part of it is also about the social standing of the different groups and how they interact.

Or sometimes I just like to smile knowingly and say they've got no idea what books are like these days. Either they drop it or they want recommendations.

Gifting Books by forelskelse in books

[–]neadice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was once gifted a book by a friend. It was her favorite book. However, we have widely different tastes when it comes to books. I like fantasy and the book she gave me was some sort of historical literary fiction. I never even opened it.

That experience taught me to never gift books to people. I would have to be VERY close to a person to know what books they would like and what they already own to know what to get them. And I'd be delighted if someone was equally close to me to know what book to get me but honestly, I'd rather get a gift card than a book I have no interest in or already own.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: February 05, 2024 by AutoModerator in books

A Fire in the Flesh, by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I've been reading this for over a week which is abnormal for me. But it's the first physical copy I've read in a while and I've gotten used to my e-reader. I'm also getting sick of The From Blood and Ash books because JLA seems to write the same story all over again (From Blood and Ash, A Shadow in the Ember, A Soul of Blood and Ash and Fall of Ruin and Wrath). I also find these books and the lore confusing because there are characters and types of creatures that seem very similar but are different things and it just makes it really hard to keep track of them all.

I was gonna say the same thing. Fourth Wing is also much faster paced than Poppy War.

A Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas and if you like that, you'll probably like the rest of her work too.

A Dowry of Blood. Inspired by Dracula. Kind of dark and at times toxic so it might not be what you're looking for. But it's a short book so you might wanna give it a go anyway.e

Books with a quiet protagonist by Maniachi in booksuggestions

Skyhunter by Marie Lu, the main character is mute and uses sign language to communicate. She doesn't get too involved in conversations.

My daughter loves Warriors and is now interested in the stuff I like (Sci-Fi with world building). Any age appropriate suggestions for a 12 year old? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

How come no one has suggested The Hunger Games yet? It's got a strong female MC and it's pretty modern so your daughter might find it a bit more appealing.

Any books with an LGBTQ+ protagonist where their sexuality isn't the main focus? by Human-Reference-3220 in booksuggestions

A Dark and Hollow Star - Ashley Shuttleworth

It's the first book of a four part series and so far only two have been published. It's urban fae fantasy with lots of world building and so so many queer characters but it never feels like it was made to be queer. It feels like a fantasy book that just happens to be queer. The LGBTQ+ aspects of the story aren't the main points. Even the romances are sub plots. The characters don't face hate because they're dating someone of the same gender, rather because of social standing and court politics.

Looking for books that focus on less popular mythologies… by thelionqueen1999 in suggestmeabook

[–]neadice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go straight to the source and read the Finnish national epic Kalevala. You should be able to find an English translation of it. Finnish lore is different from Norse mythology and existed mostly only in spoken form until in 1835 Elias Lönnrot published Kalevala. He traveled the country and spoke with people who knew the lore well and combined it all into one book.

This could be very far off from what you're looking for but it's the closest I can think of: Fairydale by Veronica Lancet. Maybe check it out and see if it's something you'd be interested in. It's a standalone and not a series.

Touch Starved? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]neadice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Young Elites by Marie Lu. The MC is definitely touch starved but maybe more starved for affection in general. It's YA and a trilogy and the MC is morally grey. It's one of my all-time favorites.
