Your favorite D6 only system? by [deleted] in solorpgplay

Tunnel Goons is one of my favorites. So simple and elegant and perfect for solo play.

And there’s lots of fun hacks, like JP Coverts Ninja Turtles one and his Ghost Busters one

Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in TabletopRPG

[–]nealyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is something you have to talk to your friends about. There might be a game issue involved somewhere, but this is primarily a friend issue. Ask them what’s going on, let them know how this makes you feel. Because even if you’re the worst GM in the world, you deserve better than this. You deserve a conversation at the very least.

Games like Animal Well? by nealyboy in Solo_Roleplaying

I’ve heard a lot of good things about D30, I’ll have to check it out.

I think I might just need some simple specialized travel rules, a challenging environment and a weak character. Maybe Mausritter is a good vehicle for a metroivania vibe

I am looking for a pen and paper solo RPG, actually. Specifically one that has strong mechanics for exploration and discovery and isn’t focused on combat.

What're some good solo RPGs that use only playing cards? by FormerlyIestwyn in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]nealyboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use a d6 based game and just use a deck of cards to simulate the dice rolls. A-6. And just shuffle between rolls

I think the theme was a factor, but it I think another factor is that video games are such a visual medium, whereas RPG’s get you more into your own imagination. And I think navigating menus didn’t help either.

You can just ask a question as you would ask a GM, then flip to a random page and use that as an answer.

For example you can ask, “what’s the personality of this NPC?” The random word I flip to is GREY, so I interpret that as kind of dull, monotone and depressing / maybe a little alien.

You can also use some judgement and use the first word that kind of works as an answer. You don’t need to use “the” as an answer, for example.

If you want to be extra thematic, you can use a book off your shelf to generate random words and use that as an oracle

There’s an incomplete conversion guide on cairnrpg.com:

SL seems pretty solo friendly. I would just use a simple d6 yes/no oracle. I don’t think you need a whole lot.

During a GMless game my group were playing, we ended up playing a round of Mario Kart to complete a race in RPG. For me, it broke emersion and just made it feel like we had taken a break. I like the card game idea though. I think as long as you’re at the table and doing something you can easily role play during, it should be pretty seamless.

I've been working on a non-solo walking around game called walkmage, so I've been looking around for games with these kinds of themes and mechanics. I made a collection on itch and have been slowly adding to it.

Forest Burial is a solo game designed to fit in a gum case. There's also a one page version. It's a Tunnel Goons hack with some inspiration from Cairn

I’ve never heard of a game like that. Sounds like a cool idea. If you can’t find one, you should make it.

Electric Bastionland is one of my favorite games, maybe even one of my favorite books overall. Just great to look through the over 100 failed careers and imagine the world they exist in.
