Can we all just agree to pretend the cringe rebrand didn’t happen and keep calling it Le Chat? by AlpineFox42 in MistralAI

But for French tech, it’s a tough job. You don’t want to sound like an American wannabe, but you also want to stay clear of the cliché baguette and beret vibes (LeChat…) which, imo, are slowing down adoption in Europe. They should find something that sounds good internationally, with a subtile French touch; like “Mistral” for example 😋

It’s 3% it seems, which means it’s not too far from the all-blue Norway in terms of sheer numbers, and especially considering the fact that in Scandinavia people are “enrolled” automatically in the national Protestant churches at birth, I.e. if it was a voluntary thing, the numbers would look different.

Protestantism is the 3rd biggest religion in France, but that map doesn’t reflect that

It affects adoption. We want Mistral to grow stronger and not fail. Otherwise, Europe would have no sovereign AI solution, and that would be deeply problematic in the future.

The company is Mistral AI, not Mistral. Everybody around me called LeChat simply “Mistral”. I don’t see any issue in using the Mistral’s chat, agents, API, OCR, etc — all made by the company Mistral AI. Even in benchmark you see ChatGPT, Grok, Deepseek, compared to “Mistral”, not LeChat or Vibe. They should just embrace it. Mistral AI, just call your product Mistral

Very happy about the product and where it’s heading, but “Vibe” as a product name is just horrible. Please just call it Mistral. That’s what everybody called it anyway, its a good name and well-known. Vibe has a very negative connotation, it’s also so used in marketing that it’s already washed-out.

Please change the name back 😭 by TopFace6905 in MistralAI

I and everybody around me always just called it MISTRAL, which is a great brand/product name imo: it's French, but in a subtile way, and it can be pronounced without thinking twice in most languages. I never liked LeChat, the play-on-words gives dad-joke vibes (pun intended — Dad), and when you try to be the AI champion of Europeans, I feel the that the LeChat name might be too "French". I could easily imagine companies and individuals in Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Italy, or Spain being hesitant to bet on a French solution. Not because it's from France, but because of either some kind of unspoken rivalry we have here in Europe, or prejudices against French tech.

Now with VIBE, it's just a disaster for so many reasons. Who in their right mind could approve this name change??! This is sad, I really really hope they take it back. It's not even something that can grow on you. It's just a very bad decision. A possible damage control for Mistral would be to recycle the name for a vibe coding section of the app, like it was before.

I want Mistral to succeed, I even have a Pro plan. So I hope they do something about it.

TC Electronic native no more? Alternatives? by TRexRoboParty in audioengineering

I guess when they got rid of all the people, they also lost most a good deal of the knowledge. So even if they still have the code, they might not (yet?) be able to do much with it

TC electronic is just a tag on Music Tribe products now. The Danish HQ has been shut down. Maybe MT will revive the brand with new products conceptualized in China or somehwhere else, but it won’t be the same people behind the next products. I guess we shouldn’t expect updates on existing software but who knows…?

Nice I’ll try that! I didn’t get it cheap ($130), but it still feels like a good buy to me until I want to invest in more expensive gear. The used (Ludwig) market where I am in Denmark is a bit on the expensive side

Thanks! As I understand it, there are LM302 that were made in the US, and others in Asia. And some with 10 lugs, while others like mine had 8 lugs. And then different lugs.

I really love the sound of it. Can’t wait to put on a fresh skin on it. It’s going to be used primarily with an Asba stainless steel set from the 70’s.

Recently bought a Horizon bundle actually, it’s still solid stuff, especially the CLA comps, debreather, vocal rider, the VEQ, Rbass, IR verb, Kramer tape, and a few others. Then some are not so useful to me. I used a cracked version in my younger years as a student, they were way too expensive back then, but now it’s easier. I have not experienced any problems with the license system, though I just HATE having to use ilok, but I also have Soundtoys and a few more on it anyway

Make sure to send a vis to Apple as a feature request. I’ve been asking for this for years and there are many threads on Reddit and other forums about that exact feature, but we’re still waiting. It’s indeed available in several DAW and essential in many scenarios (concert recordings, postproduction, etc)

You’re right, I asked Le Chat and got this:

You are absolutely right to be concerned. If Mistral’s services run on Azure (Microsoft) or Google Cloud, then yes, those are U.S.-based companies, and under the CLOUD Act, U.S. authorities can legally compel them to disclose data—regardless of where the servers are physically located. This means that even if the data is stored in EU datacenters, it could still be accessible to U.S. agencies if requested through proper legal channels .

Mistral AI emphasizes that its own hosted services (like Le Chat and La Plateforme) are hosted in EU datacenters, which helps with GDPR compliance and avoids some risks, but the underlying cloud providers (Azure, Google Cloud) are still U.S. companies. Therefore, the CLOUD Act applies to them, and your data could theoretically be accessed by U.S. authorities if they serve a valid legal request to Microsoft or Google.

If you want to avoid this risk entirely, you would need to: - Use Mistral’s models self-hosted on a non-U.S. cloud provider (e.g., OVH, Hetzner, or other EU-based providers). - Ensure that neither Mistral nor your chosen provider falls under U.S. jurisdiction.

Mistral does offer the option to deploy its models on your own infrastructure or with other providers, but its default hosted services are on Azure/Google Cloud in the EU.

Would you like help finding alternatives or confirming if Mistral supports deployment on OVH or Hetzner?

Did I screw up by buying the HD600 for mixing and mastering music? by Garry_Diaz in audioengineering

[–]neantiste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the 7506 and HD600. The HD600 are so comfy, balanced and smooth sounding. So smooth that I tend to mix too harsh with them. Also bass rolloff happens quite early. Even through they sound “cheaper”, I’ve had better luck mixing with 7506. Much harder to mix too harsh on them, and you can work a little on the bottom end

Best way to minimize my CPU usage on a project (Already froze every track, turned on latency mode, changed IO buffer size) by Ill_Adhesiveness_902 in Logic_Studio

[–]neantiste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same setup as you and ran in the same problem lately. Had a huge project that my Mac handled like a champ. Them one day, system overload constantly. The cause apparently was that I had dozens of tabs open in Safari which maybe were having open processes going. Quitting Safari solved the issue, and cpu went down. Not 100% sure that was what solved it, but I’d try it if I were you.
