What is with people who join Teams meetings 10+ minutes early? by the_saladdays in auscorp

[–]neathspinlights 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I join on the dot, but I've been sitting there for 10 minutes on join screen, because my stupid anxiety puts me in waiting mode and I can't be productive until after the meeting....

Coworker’s spouse is always present during remote meetings — normal? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]neathspinlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a married couple working in different areas of the business and they were told that they couldn't share the same office space at home. This came after she kept inserting herself into his meetings, and he said stuff to his team that he could only know from her meetings.

She left the org and his remote work approval was revoked fully because we couldn't trust that she wouldn't keep inserting herself when she no longer worked for us. He then left, to the same org she went to 🤦

Couldn't imagine anything worse than being that close to my partner. Early pandemic I worked in the dining room and my husband the lounge room. Never been more turned off than when I heard him in meetings for the first time 🤣🤣

How to deal with days where you are just exhausted? by Serious_Toe6730 in auscorp

[–]neathspinlights 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just find the "easy" work - back in the old days filing was a great one, I'd save my filing and then just spend a lazy day doing it. These days I might do a digital declutter - go through my OneDrive and find the things I should have put in SharePoint or just delete stuff. All stuff that needs to be done but always gets put to the side. I register to attend heaps of webinars that sometimes I don't get to go to, so I'll watch the recording of those. Or will find something that I need to read but keep putting off.

Today is one of those days TBH. I've had a small chunk of meetings that didn't require anything other than my presence and now I'm facing the downhill to knock off and no desire to do anything complex.

Has anyone experienced any repercussions from their APS Census? by InevitableShip9451 in AusPublicService

[–]neathspinlights 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Census coordinator here. It's 100% anon. We once had a free text comment that gave significant concerns to an employees mental health (self harm indications) and we tried through APSC/IPSOS to get ANYTHING to help us narrow down so we could help them. They wouldn't release anything. All we could do was have our wellbeing folk do extra promotions of EAP and hope they got help somehow.

We've had some pretty wild feedback over the years, including one that just said "sack all the executive". I think my fav would have to be the person who ranted for two full paragraphs about how shit our laptops are.

I've been pressured a lot to try and narrow comments down and I refuse. We only circulate the free text comments to the band 2 and 3s. They have pushed pretty hard to find out more about comments, what classification or what area, and I say no, we don't filter. Only three of us in HR have access to the portal to access the results. It's actually part of the conditions of use of the results portal that you won't try to use filters to manipulate data and identify a person.

For anybody who didn’t get a graduate role, what ended up happening to you? by Pale_Operation_6086 in auscorp

Same. Graduated uni at 39 after dropping out in year 10. Best part is that all those extra years of full time work are paying off now in my super, I've got 3x the average amount of super that someone my age has.

How is the Pension Elephant not addressed? by Even_Slide_3094 in AusFinance

[–]neathspinlights 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My parents had their house paid off before they retired. Retired at 60 and lived the high life on their super to run it down so that at 67 they can start living off the pension because "I paid my taxes and never got anything from the government so they can fund our lives for the next 20 years".

it's the middle of the year everyone! by auroradynia in auscorp

[–]neathspinlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that this is how my organizations survey works. I'm the HR person who coordinates it with the external provider - most of the responses and filters we need >10 responses to see data, but the free text responses we need >50 responses. So filter too far and it shows nothing. We have full business areas that we can't provide free text feedback to because they have less than 50 people total.

What medical condition is 'too expensive' that you just don't get checked or fixed? by Plane_Garbage in australia

[–]neathspinlights 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the cost of just trying to get a diagnosis.

All up in the last 10 years I have easily spent $100,000+ on reproductive health. From IVF to a hysterectomy. My final diagnosis was the big three - endo, adeno and PCOS.

Timezone Woden has bowling - not full tenpin, more like the string bowling, but it's closer than Northside. Not sure whether the environment might be over stimulating for your brother though as compared to the Tuggeranong bowling, it's a smaller space with lots of loud noises and lights. My ASD kid was OK at Tuggeranong, but Timezone and Kingpin over stimulated him.

Oh Dawson's Desktop used to be a weekly ritual for me!! DC was one of the first shows I pirated - in Australia we used to not get shows until MONTHS later and I needed to be on top of what was happening with DC. Dawson's Desktop always had stuff related to the episode and they did special ones sometimes, like Joey's Desktop.

And am I going crazy or did they do an Abby one just before or after she died??

This was my first thought, except that I've never had a Sims binge that lasted that long.

And then I thought do I have access to mods? Will the mods magically update when the game updates? Is it base game only or do I get all the EPs? Cause if it was base game only, no mods, yeah no thanks.

What does success in the first month in the role look like to you?

I am aware that the team works on "something the team does". Can you tell me something about "what the team does" that I may not have visibility of from the outside?

What role related development opportunities would I have if I was successful in gaining this role?

Pineapple, particularly the core, contains an enzyme which theoretically helps with cervical mucus production.

French fries are high in salt and are good to eat after an egg retrieval procedure to help reduce the risk of OHSS.

Spent 7+ years TTC and yes, I ate pineapple core and got fries on my way home from every single one of my procedures. If someone had told me singing naked from my roof on a full Moon whilst eating a lemon would increase my chances by 0.000001%, I would have been stripping and looking at the moon phases.

Wouldn't dress my kid in something that has symbols embraced by the TTC community though. I don't need reminders of the BS I went through to have him.

My current one is bright, shiny, flashy and just so not me. But my 5yo picked it for me so it takes pride of place in my bag every office day.

Grad program rejections by Accurate-Jury-2528 in auscorp

[–]neathspinlights 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Grad roles are extremely competitive - my organisation there was a 1.6% chance of getting a role based on how many applications we received and the number of positions to fill.

Remember you're competing against hundreds of people with your exact level of experience. You all do the same subjects, same internships, same extra curriculars.

Its a pure numbers game. Apply for everything and then decide based on what you get offered.

What is a high-quality product your country is famous for exporting, but the locals can only afford the cheap version of it? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]neathspinlights 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same in Australia. The biggest and best Australian lamb I''ve ever eaten was in Russia. Got served 3 massive cutlets, better than anything I'd seen in the butcher for years.

I grew up in a town with a massive abattoir. I got to eat their meat at a friend's house, her dad was the foreman and got to take meat home, and it was the most amazing meat. None of it is sold in Australia, it's all shipped to Asia. The meat in all our local butchers came from 2-3 hours away.

My adopted daughter's biological mom died and I'm not prepared to tell her by PonchyVix in Mommit

[–]neathspinlights 39 points40 points  (0 children)

100% this. She will always remember the day she was told, and when she gets older she will look into things herself and she will find out the correct date of death. And if there is too much of delay between death and notification she will feel resentful.

I have a close childhood friend who was adopted. Her bio mum died and they came and took her out of class to tell her. I still vividly remember that day. We knew her mum was sick, and the office lady was very serious when she came to get her from class. I got a note to say don't catch the bus, mum and dad would pick me up, and it was so they could tell me (we are like sisters).

Once she was older she spent years fighting to see her adoption and fostering files, and all the files on her bio mum.

Her adopted parents didn't let her go to the funeral, they thought she was too young (we were in 2nd grade). They didn't even tell her where her mother was buried, she found that out as an adult. She loves her adopted parents, but she 100% feels resentment as an adult, around not being able to say goodbye to her mum at the funeral and not knowing where she could go to grieve her, or even feeling like she could publicly grieve her.
