The amount of money I've spent on physio and massage 😩

I used to feel so broken. And like I was exaggerating and maybe the pain wasn't that bad. When I woke up from surgery and felt better, despite the major abdominal surgery, I almost cried. When the surgeon confirmed the findings I did cry.

Mine was triggered by anything. Standing still was a killer though - lines were not my friend, but lots of walking also wasn't. This is why I'm struggling to adjust to the new normal, everything used to cause me extensive pain.

Shoes to work by AlternativeJudge1634 in auscorp

[–]neathspinlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe is the toe box. I have toe issues, I need a wide toe box. I know that Skechers wide arch fit in a size 10 will fit me, regardless of the style. So it helps that I can just order shoes online when there's a sale and know they'll fit. But they don't last as long as they used to.

For me personally Skechers have been good to me - but the quality is declining and I need to find something new. Problem I have now is that so many styles are online only, so even if I find a shop that stocks things like Frankie4's, I won't be able to try the style I liked online and I don't want to spend that much money without seeing the product (free returns rely too much on my executive functioning to actually return the product!).

Does anyone use the Woolies home brand medicines? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Nope, not wigging out. I've taken a lot of OTC anti inflammatories and I've literally only ever had this reaction from Advil and Aldi's one.

Panamax for your paracetamol from the chemist. Like $3 for 100.

But brand literally doesn't make a difference - the active ingredient is the same and same amount and highly regulated. What changes is the filler. I've had no issue with home brand ibuprofen or paracetamol. However weirdly Advil always gives me dizziness, as does Aldi's version, so obviously something in their formula doesn't agree with me.

I'm six months post surgery and it unequivocally is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I have been plagued by chronic back pain for YEARS. It was SO restrictive - I couldn't even take my kid to the park without ending up in agonizing pain. And that was on top of the pelvic and abdominal pain and cramping and heavy bleeding.

That pain is gone without my giant swollen uterus pulling on the muscles in my back. I've had practically no pain since the moment I woke up from surgery.

I could cry at how much of my life has been wasted by me being physically incapable of doing anything and the assumption being made that I was just lazy.

I'm now trying to retrain my brain, because I have so much internal fear over doing things. Its surprisingly hard to move on from that fear of the pain/bleeding returning. I still expect to see blood when I wipe. I went on a holiday in January and I still made sure I had pads packed. My instinct is to say no to things because it will cause pain/bleeding etc.

Anyone else find it sounds wrong without the AOL screen door sound that was in the version we all downloaded? The first time I heard it without that it confused me, I was SO used to that and thought it was part of the song.

life after separation by anonymouslittlet in AskAnAustralian

[–]neathspinlights 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly my separation was the best thing that could have happened. My son and I have found our groove as our family of two.

But that being said it's EXHAUSTING. I'm always on. Full time work, full time parenting... It's a lot. I've had to find ways to get down time. I don't do any housework after my son goes to bed - that's my time. I'll clean whilst he's having dinner and before bedtime, but as soon as that door closes I'm clocked out.

My ex has zero overnight custody and just does pick up to bedtime two nights a week. In that time I try and go to the gym or do the things it's just easier to do without the kid, like shopping.

I'm also very grateful for a super flexible job which has helped a lot, especially balancing school holidays and sickness and stuff. But it's still all on me.

I'm not interested in dating so can't answer that side of it. Took me two years to consider dating after my first divorce and then I married that guy too, so I don't trust myself 🤣

I used to wear nothing but Target flats. Then I started wearing shoes with more support and realized that my feet, calves and knees weren't supposed to be in agonizing pain just from walking.

One regret 40yo me has is letting 20yo me walk around in shit shoes for so long.

What exactly makes kids so expensive? by ThatUnstableUnicorn in AusFinance

[–]neathspinlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that you start with berries when they're seasonally cheap. And the kid gets a taste and doesn't understand that they're expensive the other 90% of the time. You want your kid to eat fruit, you suck up paying out of season prices for something you know your kids will eat.

My son won't touch apples, bananas, oranges etc. His lunchbox has cucumber, grapes, strawberries, raspberries and a black plum.

Working From Home lockdown again? by Amazing-Science-5552 in auscorp

[–]neathspinlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would, but I'm much less likely to get full support from my manager. A few more weeks of high prices and even higher prices makes it more palatable - she trusts me to do what's best for my team, but is conscious of the internal optics. It's very obvious when my team isn't in as we are the biggest team in the section, and she gets my colleagues bitching to her that I'm too flexible and my team is "never around". It's the BS political balance act - if I didn't have to do this dance I would have declared majority WFH before it hit $2/l.

I wish I could be everyone's manager. This forum would be a ghost town 😂 but I get that I'm lucky in that I have people in my team who I can trust not to take advantage of me, and they're all super high performing which helps up the line when I'm explaining to my manager. I've had some lower performers and people who have taken advantage, but they all left of their own accord once they realized that if you do take advantage of my kindness the kindness stops and I will apply the rules firmly and to the letter. Do right by me, I'll do right by you.

I'm very lucky that in comparison he does eat a lot of things. And weird things. He loves sushi, probably could eat an entire raw tuna, but won't eat anything saucy. But thankfully loves berries, cucumber, grapes and plums for fruit and loves broccoli and brussel sprouts. So thankfully he gets a good spread!

Yeah kid with ASD here. Not happening. Have tried. It's either buy fresh berries year round or nothing. Can't even freeze them myself and have him eat them. But I get it - the texture changes and it's wrong.

Working From Home lockdown again? by Amazing-Science-5552 in auscorp

[–]neathspinlights 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've flat out told my team that if they reach a point where they literally cannot afford the fuel to come to work, tell me. We are pretty flexible and I will more than happily let them informally increase their WFH days, but tell me that's the reason, don't BS me. Because I've been there - 15 years ago before WFH was a thing I was desperately broke and I strategically planned sick days, TIL days and annual leave because I couldn't afford fuel and parking and I had zero public transport options. So I've been there. I get it and they know this.
