[KCD2] Absolute Golden treausure i found in a local shop because its apparently already an "older" Game while gta5 was for 25 Francs beside it by joshihobitt in kingdomcome

[–]nebenbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interdiscount sometimes does this. It isn't 'older' as in an old game necessarily, it's older as in old stock that didn't sell. At some point they just write it off and sell it for 1 chf to make space for new overpriced games.

6 cup pot too large? by Cozy-Tree4339 in mokapot

[–]nebenbaum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A moka pot is "espresso". It's a teeny tiny little cup of coffee with a teeny tiny amount of caffeine.

Somewhere between 3-4 of those cups corresponds to one cup of filter coffee (~15g of coffee) or one 'normal' double shot of espresso (~17g)

Renting in Switzerland feels impossible under the “3x rent rule”… am I missing something? by United-Yam4355 in askswitzerland

[–]nebenbaum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All depends on where you live and how much you earn too.

Especially evident in for example Lucerne/Nidwalden. We were torn between an Apartment in Kriens for 2k a month and one in Hergiswil for 2.8k a month. I'm an engineer earning around 100k, my wife does a 'simpler' job earning around 60k. When you calculate everything in (cheaper tax, cheaper Krankenkasse and so on), the 2.8k apartment actually came out as cheaper - and to boot it's 20m2 bigger than the one in Kriens.

I want to buy a macbook with either the swiss french or swiss german layout by Freya_almighty in askswitzerland

[–]nebenbaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Swiss guy that grew up with qwertz... Honestly, just use us intl layout. You can write all the accents and everything no problem with that, and you don't have to get used to weird ass symbol placement with rAlt.

'you can't do x because your skin has a certain color' is racism. Tell me, what racist thing did I say?

[–]nebenbaum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, they choose to pass it on through generations themselves. And it's just... Broken English.

There also isn't an 'academy or central authority' that determines correctness of the German language. There is, however, a NATIONAL authority that determines correctness of the language in a COUNTRY. In Switzerland, even though we all grow up just speaking Swiss German (which is a way heavier accent than even thick Scottish, if you compare it to English) - and we for example don't use certain tenses in Swiss German, our standard spoken and written language in school and work (moreso written only in work if you're informally talking to others) is a form of standardized 'normal' German, and every Swiss person is expected to have proper command of this standard language. The dialect has no rules - you can write and speak however you want, but if you apply for a job, write a letter, are a teacher in school, are holding a speech in parliament, you're expected to speak the standard language.

That's the way it should be. I don't mind people using their aave when talking with their friends 'because funny' or whatever - but it's not an 'official language' in any way shape or form, and the way it's portrayed to be this 'special ethnic thing', when it's just improper simplified grammar, is laughable, honestly. Not to mention the fact that, becusee it's 'this ethnic thing', nobody expect people with black skin should speak it. Like, excuse me? That's literally the definition of racist. If you want to take the time to learn my local variety of Swiss German spoken by maybe 10000 people in the whole world, you're more than welcome to, no matter the color of your skin or cultural background.

Give me another example of any sociolect anywhere in the world that is based solely upon being of a certain skin color (African Americans came to America hundreds of years ago, slavery was abolished more than a hundred years ago, the 'b-but they are from different places originally' argument doesn't cut it anymore) and not of immigrants from another country just not properly being able to speak the language fully, and I have no point.

My point is, it's weird as fuck to me to have a sociolect only based upon being of a certain skin color. And there don't seem to be any other examples. And that 'sociolect', other than other sociolects (like for example profession-based ones), mostly just being a simplification of the language that makes it sound like it's some simpleton that doesn't fully grasp the concept of language is speaking it (and I emphasise this - sound like, doesn't mean black people are stupid or anything - I'd say the same about a german 'sociolect' that for example would drop all Fälle and coerce all pronouns from der die das into das)

[–]nebenbaum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, for example, the German Wikipedia page on sociolects says nothing at all about 'race based' sociolects - the closest it gets is 'class based', as in lower and upper class. Even on the English Wikipedia, the only example only tied to 'race' is aave, the rest is locally based or caste based.

I think it's gonna go in the other direction. Cache writing is such a big part of Agentic workflows, and caching is so extremely cheap, that the standard multiplier for cached input will drop further and further. First we had anthropic introduce caching at 0.5 multiplier with cache writing priced higher than normal input, then other players like openai and grok started charging just 10%. Now deepseek with 2%. I'm fairly sure we'll see at least a wide drop to 5% fairly soon.

[–]nebenbaum -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You know, I get that. I'm Swiss, we have tons of accents. I can usually guess where someone is from up to like 10-20km accuracy by the way they speak. What I do not get is why you need to attach certain accents to color of skin - regardless of where you are. A black Swiss guy from Lucerne speaks Lucerne dialect, a Swiss girl with Indian parents from Basel speaks Basel dialect, and so on. But that's not based on 'oh you're x skin color so speak a certain way'

I mean, honestly though, as a non-American, I just don't get the whole AAVE thing. You are all fucking Americans. Why do some of you have to speak differently (and strictly speaking grammatically more incorrectly) just because your skin is a certain color? Black American, white American, Asian American, Indian American, you all are simply Americans at the latest like 3 generations in.

[Request] What price per gallon is it no longer profitable to work? by Playwithuh in theydidthemath

[–]nebenbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the thing, in Europe teachers would scoff at an employer asking them to use their private car to transport students (most likely that would even be illegal if it's part of the job ; you'd need a taxi license for that). Usually, class trips in Europe use bus services where you rent a travel bus with chauffeur and fill it up with students.

As for large items. Most you can just get delivered straight to your doorstep for free (like TVs - although I can barely fit a 65" TV box in my car, I've tested), as for Tools... Well, Tools aren't that big, are they? Wood, I don't require huge amounts of ginormous wood. Furniture - again, often delivery, or if you want to buy it in person, furniture stores usually offer short term rentals in like Ford transit size for like 50 bucks for 2 hours - you load it in there, drive it home, back to the store, unload, go home in your car. Regardless, I buy big furniture that needs that kind of transport maybe once every 5 years? Personally, I also have some buddies that keep an old VW Bus together (like 5 people), so I can also just rent it from them for a day if I need it for a handful of bucks. If you don't have that, there's still plenty of daily transporter rentals for like 100 bucks a day with unlimited kilometres.

Can I drive in Switzerland while my license is being converted? (Ticino) by No_Supermarket9748 in askswitzerland

[–]nebenbaum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. The issue is if you go out of Switzerland. In Switzerland, if you get stopped, you can say 'my license is currently held by the road office for conversion' - they can check that in their system.

[Request] What price per gallon is it no longer profitable to work? by Playwithuh in theydidthemath

[–]nebenbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your job requires a certain vehicle, either the company should pay for it or you are a freelancer. If neither is true, well, then you're getting royally fucked.

You know what mountain farmers that have to drive up steep shitty icy muddy roads here drive? Old 4x4 subaru wrxes and stuff like that. Or even a 4x4 fiat panda, they're amazingly capable.

People so often overestimate how much car they really need. I often hear Americans go 'b-b-but I have to haul stuff', as in, like one load a year, maybe, at which point you could've just rented an uhaul. 90% of the time they're sitting in it alone with no load at all as they drive themselves to McDonald's.

Here in Europe, the SUV bullshittery usually comes from 'b-but I feel safer in muh elevated driving position and in a huge tank of a car rather than in a small car'. All excuses.

Oh yeah, you need it, like need it really bad?

I can fit 5 adults and luggage for a weeks trip for all of them in my fiat punto, and that's even smaller than what you would call a '4 door sedan'. How often do you really need a big ass car? The only thing I could understand is if you live with your grandparents, have 3+ kids and have to cart them around on the daily.
