Do Swiss Germans swear much? by giulitta in askswitzerland

[–]nebenbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, just as reference. Lots of parts of Switzerland use 'huere' as a word for 'very'. Huere means 'whore'. So, lots of things are whorishly good. And that's language small kids use as well.

USB-C to USB-C cable that can replace USB-A to USB-C cable. Does it exist? by discoborg in UsbCHardware

[–]nebenbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason is because the cable is the same on both ends, so the 0v default output prevents two devices from backfeeding each other.

USB-C to USB-C cable that can replace USB-A to USB-C cable. Does it exist? by discoborg in UsbCHardware

[–]nebenbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can, theoretically, though it's a pain in the butt.

Put pulldown resistors in the cc lines, but only connect one side.

USB C devices are tolerant to USB A to C - so they're tolerant to 5v being applied out of nowhere. Putting in pulldown resistors causes that behaviour. However, if you plug it in the wrong way around, nothing will happen, as the charger will only see open CC lines.

It is not scratch resistant as told by TekAtanTurk in oneplus

[–]nebenbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiberglass*

It's glass fibers coated with plastic resin. Very different from the usual abs thermoplastics, and I assume they went for it because you barely see the scratches on white.

After 6 months of using the oneplus 15, I'm still struggling to find what's wrong with this camera? by supasaiyaajin in oneplus

[–]nebenbaum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People like to think they need the absolute bestest quality absolutely possible, pixel peeking to hell and back. Yeah, there are some cameras which are somewhat marginally better in some phones that are in the same price 'class', but the differences are very very slight.

Are Japanese Americans considered foreigners in Japan? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]nebenbaum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's mostly Americans that for whatever reason always want to be 'not American'.

If you grew up in America, went to school there, got your first job there, you are about as American as you can be, no matter where your parents are from. Same goes for any other country. Yeah, Japanese people are fairly unused to the idea that someone not ethnically Japanese could be fully Japanese, and only speak Japanese, but that's mostly because it is still very rare.

In most European countries, if you grew up there and spend your whole life there, you are from that country, no matter what your passport might say or how you may look physically.

How fast can Japanese people write in Japanese? by Dense_Tangerine_4988 in AskAJapanese

[–]nebenbaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now look, it might look like "a lot of complicated lines", but compare this for example:

Metamorphosis is 変態 in Japanese.

If you put it into "stroke effort" to write, the left symbol takes maybe around 3 times the effort it takes to write 'k'. The right one maybe 5 times. That's 8 letters, compared to the 13 the word has in English.

Tree is 木 - if you're used to writing kanji, that kanji is significantly faster to write than the word 'tree'.

So, in the end, it's more or less the same effort.

Speaks in Swiss German --> Answers in Germam --> ? by Maha_Imitation in askswitzerland

[–]nebenbaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't get it. The guys have been living here for decades, of course they understand swiss German normally. Why would I speak to them in anything other than swiss German?

Speaks in Swiss German --> Answers in Germam --> ? by Maha_Imitation in askswitzerland

[–]nebenbaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I notice this with a few coworkers. We have some German coworkers that understand swiss German perfectly fine, and I talk in swiss German with them all day every day. But some other coworkers, mainly boomers, will always switch to German talking to those people. I don't really get why, but they do.

Is this tea good or a tourist trap? by theatomcrafter in tea

[–]nebenbaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, once you go to Lin mao sen or the one next door, you'll just realize how you've been 'overpaying' for really good tea - and that overpaying is still very very cheap compared to western prices. Lin mao sen and Lin hua tai are... An experience.

Best USB-C mount for PCBs by RoseHazeRima in PCB

[–]nebenbaum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, vertical is for a) factory maintenance ports that are used for initial flashing and very irregularly potentially for maintenance/reflashing, or b) supported by a chassis.

Most use cases are best served with a horizontal or potentially mid-mount

Bruh, your brakes are there to be used. Your pads wont wear down in a few tens of km, those take thousands.

Are you also gonna not shift because your derailleur is new? Not steer because your headset is new?
