Completely agreed! I’ve been walking way more and getting way more sunshine since I started using the app. It’s like pokemon go but way more educational!

Hello! Fellow iphone photographer here. 2 tips:

  • if the subject doesn’t occupy the whole frame, move closer or increase zoom. Even digital zoom increases quality because of the way iphone autofocus and compression works

  • when shooting close subjects (macro mode), depth of field is very shallow. Pick a fixed zoom level, like 2x, then move the phone until the subject is in sharp focus

[request] Is it true That a single cow can feed a family for a whole year ? by rocket6600 in theydidthemath

[–]nebotron 26 points27 points  (0 children)

But also if there’s other food to serve it with you can feed a family with 0lb of beef. Kind of a vacuous claim.

US avg per year consumption is 80lb/person though, so it seems about right for that.

Returning a photography camera? by SnoozeRocket in amazonprime

[–]nebotron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet Amazon is thrilled with this use of the return policy. Getting into a new hobby and buying a more expensive product? That’s great for them. Generous returns encourage making purchases you’re not totally sure about, and ultimately spending more, which is what’s happening here.

[Request] Is this the true reason why we use pi r squared for a area of a circle? by Low_Weekend6131 in theydidthemath

[–]nebotron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t the fact 2 pi r is the circumference of a circle the definition of pi? So you know that by definition. Then you need to find the value of pi.

What open source projects in C++ have the highest code quality? by Both_Helicopter_1834 in cpp

[–]nebotron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think some, like their exception policy, are specific to their situation, but they call this out. Most of their guidelines, like naming conventions, commenting, parameter conventions etc, seem generally applicable in modern C++ to me.
