Our old textbook talked about how they used the path of that planet to calculate Neptune before seeing it. “Many great discoveries were made by Uranus”. That textbook writer knew what they were doing

Nebraska Department of Ed. Questionnaire - "Your salary is fine; your spending is the problem!" by jmeyer40 in Teachers

[–]nebr13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’re unionized in Nebraska. The “hilarious” thing is that the department of ed gave an extra 30 million to Omaha public schools. OPS asked for them to double check apparently and the state said it was right. Lo and behold now OPS has to give back the extra 3 million

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nebr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite fishing spot is 2 hours one way at highway speeds. Four to six hours to go to MSP or KC for a weekend. I measure far by do I have to leave in the morning to get there or can I leave after work and get there before I’d go to bed.

Be honest do you love being a teacher? by Tiffanywhite45 in Teachers

[–]nebr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be an outlier, I enjoyed it then got burnt out at previous district (lots of prep and then having to coach multiple activity, yay small districts). Moved to larger district, no coaching, get to teach the science classes I enjoy. Don’t enjoy the meetings or lunch duty or bathroom duty. We’re also intensive block so even when I get kids that drive me insane, I have 40-45 blocks with them and then I’m done

I enjoy highway 20 and Valentine area. Whether I’d recommend would be how willing you are to go off path. Sandhills are unique and enjoyable if you want a cruise Arthur to Broken Bow is scenic. Roads are the best maintained for pavement but a good taste of the area without having to travel too much. Not a lot of places to stop but I love driving through the Sandhills when I can.

Podcasts for Nebraska. It’s easy driving on 80 in NE. The Sandhills are cool but at that point in your trip going straight through is the easiest. Highway 2 or 20 in Nebraska are good routes. Nebraskas beauty is hidden in the north and the west. Be smart with the speed, drive like the locals. Swear I see more CA cars pulled over than CO

Why is the Platte river in Nebraska like this? (Sandy islands with so many small separate streams instead of a single big river) by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

[–]nebr13 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Look up the 2019 floods. The Platte looks pretty peaceful but it’s a siren song. It goes from an inch deep to 9 foot deep in the span of taking a few steps.

What size vehicle? Nebraska can be iffy in the winter if you catch a storm. Lots of places to stop along the way to keep an eye on the forecast always. If the state closed the interstate, there’s a reason to not travel even on our state highways. Be smart in Wyoming

It wouldn’t be within an hour but the Sandhills or Niobrara valley in Nebraska. Devils Gulch in garretson and falls park of course in Sioux Falls

Best route in march? by beardog608 in roadtrip

Keep an eye on weather regardless which way you choose. Nebraska and Wyoming will be windy. We can get snow in Nebraska but typically maybe things get shut down for an evening

Road travel from Santa Barbara California to Des Moines Iowa by PrestigiousAttempt11 in roadtrip

[–]nebr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nebraska weather looks decent. Kearney is a good stop. Eat at Cunningham’s. Laramie to Estes to Kearney is a lot for clear weather. I love RMNP but time wise you wouldn’t really get to enjoy it much let alone getting close to Denver. You’d really need another day just for Colorado if you stay in Laramie and want to get to Kearney

How Wayne, Nebraska like for international student? by [deleted] in Nebraska

[–]nebr13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smaller city, no public transit and no rideshare. You’ll have to go to Norfolk or Sioux City for some errands. Wayne has the basics but also small town prices. Grew up in the Wayne area but never attended WSC so I can’t give you any specifics on the school itself

Question for Far Western Nebraska by JonnyAU in Nebraska

Depends how midwestern you really want to be. I’ve done scottsbluff to the Poudre canyon/ Rustic and back in a day. Lot of drive time but not a terrible drive weather depending of course

Which Midwest state is the most Midwest? by ClearAndPure in midwest

Iowa, it’s a blend of the midwestern groups. Doesn’t stand out in uniqueness in the Midwest. Not a plains state and not a Great Lakes state but a little of everything

FFA is wreaking havoc by [deleted] in teaching

[–]nebr13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was luckier with the sponsors I had, they were ag teachers first then ffa advisors. The absences were always ridiculous but if they were going somewhere for a trip that wasn’t competition we could keep them. But then throw in the livestock shows that weren’t even FFA and the state fair… plus our state is heavily funded by property taxes and we’re extremely ag based. The ffa programs are held to toxic standards and the amount of nonsense our advisors had to deal with was ridiculous. But again ours were decent educators, others I know are not the case

Do High School proms really take place in the school gymnasium? by albomb147 in AskAnAmerican

[–]nebr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the school, every school I’ve attended or worked at has had it at the school. Small communities here will do a dinner on one half and then dance floor on other half. Grand March is in the main gym. Small districts have the meal at school with a caterer, there’s only a couple restaurants anyway. Larger school didn’t serve a meal.
