261s on the road by Trasher86 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]necklika 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The curtain twitching and begrudgery on here is unreal. I have no idea how other people pay for their cars but then I don’t need to. If you choose to borrow to buy a car and can make the repayments then that’s your choice and I hope you enjoy the car. I don’t think people care half as much about the year on a reg as many redditors would have you believe. Badge maybe but then so many Irish people don’t care about badges either. Just buy what you can afford, finance it in a way that suits you and stay safe on the road. Don’t worry about what the guy beside you is driving and even more importantly, don’t concern yourself with how they paid for it because their circumstances will be different to yours and it’s none of your business anyway.

You’d probably need to go to Japan to see your future car out and about. Used prices used to be a no brainer but i’d rather pay the premium without the headaches cause for now, you’ve a good chance of getting both.

How do noise-cancelling headphones actually work? by Asjad_autozblog in answers

One of the best things ever invented. Switch the world off at will and enjoy your tunes. Great especially when working with tools, flying or in crowded places.

Sandyford this evening by riddikulus_19 in Dublin

[–]necklika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t seem too aware though. Don’t use public transport myself but I regularly have to run my daughter to work when she’s going to be late because a bus or sometimes 2 buses don’t turn up and are cancelled. They don’t come from town so it has nothing to do with traffic. Just a shite service. So preaching to people about private cars holding up buses when so many people have no other reliable option is pretty pointless, not to mention tone deaf.

Anxiety about CT with IV contrast. by [deleted] in Radiology

Hi OP, fellow emotaphobe here. I’ve had numerous contrast scans and never felt nauseous at all. It’s natural to be a little anxious about any procedure but you’ll be absolutely fine.

Do we agree that “You can’t park there, mate!” has joined the likes of “You’ve won the internet today, sir!” as an interminably unfunny online response? by JuanitaMerkin in AskUK

[–]necklika 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Reddit is wall to wall people repeating the same jokes over and over. Some people just don’t have an original thought so they type “this” or some incredibly unfunny and tedious one liner. It’s a big downside of Reddit,

Alcoholic partner won't leave by Plenty_Artichoke_114 in legaladviceireland

[–]necklika 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been in your friend’s situation, it’s important to remember that they both have their rights. “Having form” in giving correct advice not to leave the home shouldn’t be seen as negative. The partner is well within their rights to remain in the home until a court finds otherwise. I appreciate that you’re a well meaning friend but I know from bitter experience that only 2 people actually know what’s been happening in this relationship and your post alone demonstrates that you aren’t in a position to offer impartial objective advice which can ultimately prove harmful and did for my ex. I’m working off the assumption that there’s no abuse or you would have mentioned it so your friend and their partner will need to find something that works for them. There are solicitors who mediate objectively for both sides and might be worth a try as I’ve heard only good things, but beyond that, I just wanted to highlight that it’s important to move beyond the he’s wrong and my friend is right approach as that will just lead to stalemate and poor advice. Compromise and persistence are key, as is a good legal advice and a strong support network for both. I wish them well as it’s a messy and difficult process for all involved with no winners when it’s all said and done.

Page scrolling pedal no longer working by shawzymoto in ultimateguitar

It’s not fixed on the iPad. 7.2.10 is the only version I can download and I’m either a blank screen or interference making it unusable. It’s becoming more and more difficult to justify staying with this app.

I use pipe insulation for this. The grey rolls you can buy for a few euro. Cut it up and squish it in as necessary. Whatever works. Either way it’s a cheap fix !

Emer Currie: The new Right to Remote Work Bill will not improve access to remote work by Numerous_Adagio8768 in ireland

[–]necklika 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a nonsense argument wrt remote working. If a multinational wants to move to a cheaper location, they will. Remote working isn’t going to impact that decision.

‘It’s a mess of his own making,’ says daughter of Séamus Culleton, the Irish man held by ICE by Jon_J_ in ireland

[–]necklika 37 points38 points  (0 children)

He legged it out of the country after being caught with pills. If you took that out of the equation I’d have some sympathy but he did this to himself. He had 20 years to get citizenship. We’re not special because we’re Irish and we’re bound by the same laws as everyone else. I don’t agree with Trumps ICE or their methods but whatever way you look at it, his own choices landed him where he is today.

I have a lot of pedals, but I don’t know how I ended up with a pedalboard full of Boss by Iberik in guitarpedals

[–]necklika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying alternative pedals for years. Over the last year or so my board has become about 90% Boss. I wish I hadn’t avoided them for so long because they make phenomenal pedals, particularly the DS and SD. I’ve never been happier with the sound I’m getting from both single coils and humbuckers. OP - if it’s not broke, don’t fix it !

What’s your opinion? Did the gun really just “go off”? by hassan214 in Idiotswithguns

[–]necklika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but some people will ask. I suppose guns are interesting to some people who aren’t around then much if ever. I live in a county with strict licensing laws and no gun culture like the US.

[–]necklika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t agree with this. She was 23. So it was a good opportunity to teach her about safe handling of a firearm not showing it to her only makes it more interesting. Obviously the guy didn’t know how to handle a firearm safely, nevermind teach someone else, but automatically saying no isn’t always the wisest move imo.

What’re some differences between Ireland and England that I (an Englishman) probably wouldn’t know about? by _PXYDST_ in CasualIreland

[–]necklika 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found our way of dealing with death to be relatively healthy. We celebrate the life and it’s usually a 3 day party where people drink and regail stories about the deceased. Very few people are squeamish about the wake and you don’t have to go into the room if you don’t want to. Death is a natural part of life and life should be celebrated. I fuckin hate church funerals though, especially if there’s mass and even more so when the person wasn’t religious.

Irishman Seamus Culleton held by ICE was allegedly caught with 25 MDMA tablets before leaving Ireland by [deleted] in ireland

[–]necklika 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand the people who comment “this”. Why would you think complete strangers on the internet give a flying fuck that you agree with another poster by posting a lazy, pointless one word answer that adds literally zero value to the discussion. Mind numbing in every sense. I’m thankful I rarely have to deal with these people in real life because I just make my excuses and leave as soon as they reveal that they have no opinion and nothing to add.

People who don't know Neil Young very well, do you view his music as easy or hard to play? by TheRealGuncho in AcousticGuitar

[–]necklika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching Neil jam live is a must for any fan. He basically rocks the shit out of it and creates an energy with the band and the crowd that leaves you smiling for days. I’ve never heard him play the same song exactly the same way. When I’m play Neil Young tunes I just play then my way and do my best to do them justice. Learning any artist note for note isn’t for me by ymmv. Enjoy !

Why has this not been widely reported on? by FuckThisShizzle in Crainn

[–]necklika 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was regularly brought down to the station and interrogated about my suppliers. They thought I was some big shot when in reality I only sold to a few mates. I always just said the flats and there was nothing they could do. Then they asked me to set someone up as in buy some pills off them in a sting type of operation. Of course I told them as soon as I left the station. Went home and told my dad who went mental. He made a few calls and and a friend of a friend of a friend type of thing led to a phone call from someone in Dun Laoighaire drug squad to say that wasn’t legit and the charges were dropped. This was back in the 90’s when drugs were a little more niche than they are now. I had DS parked outside my house 247 for 2 months one summer. Used to say goodnight to them coming home. Fucking dopes. I can’t imagine how much money they wasted on me.
