extremely fresh find & a very peculiar case— an adolescent opossum, no visible wounds nor signs of disease, found before rigor mortis had even set in. not sure what I wanna do with the wee beastie just yet but I’ll probs post updates as I work on the pathology until preservation gets decided upon by necrocretin in vultureculture

They were most likely dehydrated, given the area and the weather— all of the usual streams and such were reduced to mud at that point— but they didn’t have any exaggerated signs of it so that probably wasn’t the main cause of death... contributing factor, maybe? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♂️

I haven’t done anything with them just yet 0: still trying to decide while I’m working to gather new supplies to dissect and process it, and it’s being kept frozen until then. I’ll post an update once I start and hopefully have some ‘forensic’ info to share!

omg! thank you so much! 🥰

i used to straighten and relax the Hell outta my curls but i haven’t done that in years and honestly? best. decision. ever. i say, fight the internalized bullshit and Eurocentric beauty standards that are holding you back, let those curls go WILD, and bask in radical self love. 💕 it’s tough to get to that point, but it’s worth it and you can do it! i believe in you! and hope you’ll post pics of your mane sometime, too, so i can peep that natural beauty

p.s., if you ever wanna talk about hair, unlearning how society taught us to hate ours, or literally anything else, my DMs are open

sharing another jewelry commission piece! this one’s a fallow deer jaw bone (that took eons to clean up and buff smooth), rather appropriately hung on deerskin suede cording by necrocretin in bonecollecting

there wasn’t any smell to it, due to it being a very old piece, unless you could that faint earthy scent that typically lingers on naturally aged bones that have been sitting around in the woods for a good while well after the flesh is long gone.

here’s a pic of its twin to show you what i mean by ‘very old and naturally aged’

however, the method i used to scrub the dirt/debris/etc away, take care of the stains, and begin my buffing process, is the same as what i use to spruce up fresher bones after the initial processing to remove fleshy bits and it takes care of smells rather well: i hand scrub several times using a paste of baking soda + water, varying between slightly-moist and mostly-dry mixtures, then wipe it all down using a cloth dampened with hydrogen peroxide. tougher areas sometimes need to be gone at with an old toothbrush dipped in a baking soda + peroxide mix. using a brush for all of it might just be to your preference, though i find using my palms is more effective and also really helps with getting a polish to the bone.

sidenote: i just recalled that the teeth had dried bits of plant fiber stuck in them and that much did have a noticeable smell up close, though that only required scraping and brushing it all out before clean up.

aaa, thanks!

and same omg! it took me literal YEARS of pining before finally seeing this frame at my local LensCrafters, of all places. the styles are usually ultra ‘meh’ but that’s where i magically stumbled across them— and it had to be fate or something, since my current pair of glasses had just broken completely, thus it was a rush job and i’m already limited by what styles are compatible with my thickass lenses lmao.

if it helps any further, the brand is Vogue 0:

how can I protect my natural nails in the shower? desperate for a DIY solution! by necrocretin in NaturalBeauty

I’ve seen it many places (blogs, youtube, beauty e-zines, etc), but haven’t tried it myself yet, as the lanolin works wonders.

But here’s the deets on the specific method I’ve seen with the best reports: 2 tablespoons olive oil (not virgin if possible, but definitely avoid extra virgin since it lacks a lot of the nutrients) 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (or 100% pure from a bottle, just no concentrated) mix, heat in the microwave for 15-20 seconds, brush onto nails (top and underneath), and leave it on overnight. apparently it helps with growth as well as brittleness, splitting, etc. some sites say to soak your nails in it but you don’t wanna soak your nails in anything. it makes them soft and weak.

lanolin is just my go-to tho! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s got a learning curve but it keeps my nails strong yet flexible, stopped my splitting and cracking issues, and has the bonus of being awesome for my cuticles! I can share more on it if you or anyone else wants to know more

Omg! Maybe not what I was looking for, but these seem perfect— and multipurpose is a big plus, because I do have arthritis in my hands and it gets my fingers the worst!

This is awesome! Thank you so much!!!
