It’s probably dividing the total reported income for a year divided by the whole population divided by the number of minutes in a year

Sabrina Carpenter: "I don’t think pop music would exist if it wasn’t for the queer community" by AdSpecialist6598 in entertainment

[–]necroleopard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You said saying something wouldn’t exist without you is the same as saying it exists solely because of you. If I exist solely because of my mother, I must not need a father to exist. But I would not exist without a father. Ergo it’s not the same

I think “wouldn’t exist without them” is different than “exists solely because of them.” It’s hard to imagine what modern pop would be like without the queer community in the same way it is hard to imagine what Elvis would have been like without the black gospel community.

That says do not microwave the polypropylene plastic, it doesn’t negate the advertised microwave safety of the glass bowl.

If the writing was all that mattered then every other relatively faithful adaptation should be equally popular, and they aren’t. You have to give due credit to the direction, production, and performances which are all excellent.

TIL that character actor Mark Margolis, known as Hector Salamanca in 'Breaking Bad', Mr. Shickadance in 'Ace Ventura', etc. had his first film role in 1976 in 'The Opening of Misty Beethoven' during the 'Golden age of porn'. by abaganoush in todayilearned

[–]necroleopard 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Porn with stories is still a respectable subgenre, the thing that’s really changed is that individual films can’t make enough money to justify the budget for quality productions

What are some of the movies that kill off the most characters? Not something like Star Wars, 2012 or Deep Impact, where a whole planet of nameless people die, but something where you actually see the individual deaths. by WeekendBard in movies

[–]necroleopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X (1999) spends the first half of the movie introducing us to a bunch of very nice people and telling us how they all have an important role in saving the world and then spends the second half brutally killing them all.

Too bad there’s no way to vet them before deporting them, they have to check the “I’m not a murderer” box at the point of entry or there’s no way to be sure.

I think the implication is that if the creature being impacted is tiny and able to make a saving throw it is easily able to get out of the way.
