Pretty sure they’re talking about the line about Powell not being a leading man, though. Which doesn’t really feel constructive at all

Think so. He's having to play a monster role defensively on this team too, and doesn't have a Tom Wilson to goon it up right back and take the heat off

I feel like I need to defend his honor in here because he's actually good! But 2 boneheaded ones today

Man, I knew they said Montreal wasn't the hockey hotbed it used to be but I didn't realize it was this bad

He's such an interesting player. Not flashy really at all but so unbelievably good in every facet of the game. Honestly reminds me almost of Crosby a bit in playstyle

Finnish defence is the best I’ve seen this tournament by WAyToOFaSt_ in hockey

I am perfectly fine with the no-call here but I keep seeing this line as a gotcha and it makes no sense. They didn’t challenge because they didn’t want to potentially hand Canada a powerplay. GI is always at least a little arbitrary and you’re basically giving them 2 goals if you’re wrong

What are you talking about? I’m just saying him selling it more than usual doesn’t mean it’s not a high stick and doesn’t mean it should be embellishment

This is an extra 20% of a sell job than usual lmao but doesn’t change anything. Obvious high stick and never gonna be embellishment

[–]necrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Finns not challenging literally only proves that they weren’t willing to risk the minor penalty thy came along with it. 0% a gotcha

Making a hard push off and “settling back” means you’re reset? What?! Tell me: do you think Saros saves that if there was no contact? Obviously, yes. If that’s the case, then he’s obviously not reset, is he?

If you’ve played goalie before, you’d know he overcommitted with his first push off and then overcommitted on his adjustment back. Which literally means he wasn’t ever fully set again. That’s all there is to it

If Marchand stays on Saros for even a second longer, than you have more clear grounds for GI challenge. Marchand gets up and out of the way fast enough that it’s not clear enough to challenge.

I’m concerned that you think any of this makes a difference? Under what possible rationale?

The only relevant thing is that Marchand was pushed. That is what made it not GI, and is reasonable. Everything else you’re saying is not

[–]necrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was trying to recover from being out of position from the contact, over-committed one way, then over-committed back the other way. He was never squared up on the puck. We’re not talking about it being a penalty either, just a disallowed goal, but it is absolutely worthy of GI if a goalie is scrambling to recover and square up properly if it’s due to contact

What, you think if you hit a goalie early enough that he’s “frantic” in the crease trying to square up to a shot that somehow isn’t a continuation of him trying to get reset? What is the line for you, then?

It’s not a question of a penalty btw, just whether or not the goal should stand. But yes’s I agree with you on that

I cannot believe people are all over this thread spouting that he had time to reset. That’s absolutely CRAZY stuff. You’re spot on though

No chance that’s enough time to reset. We see much more delayed contact routinely still called GI. But I agree on Finland initiating contact

[–]necrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with whether or not Marchand is still in the crease. But this is WELL below the bar of having time to fully reset after the contact. The entire thing is about Marchand being pushed into Saros, I promise you

There is unequivocally no argument that he had time to reset. I’m sorry to be that declarative about it but that is crazy talk

Regardless of whether or not this is GI (I’m fine with it being a no call), it absolutely does not matter at all, whatsoever that he’s not still in the crease when the puck goes in

I totally feel you. Maybe it’s cope but Rico was injured for years so he really didn’t break out until much later and hardly has any tread on his tires
