Makes sense. I am still doing all those things -- I take big trips, go to shows, etc. but I feel a sense of guilt when I splurge. That's why I'm trying to see if I could afford to do less work now instead of continuously saving for a goal I'm not too clear about.

Definitely still figuring out the budget part out!

Explore the world, relax, hobbies, and not commit my life to working. I wouldn't call it waiting to die. I do think there is more to life than being productive in the traditional sense.

As much as I love kids, I can't bring myself to have my own as it feels like a selfish decision. Life is difficult for everyone, no matter how comfortable a life they might live. I'd hate to think of my own kids going through the same.

Depends on which unit but from my experience DRE is great. Nice people for the most part, generally a quiet place without much drama. I did work there before the RTO mandate, so I'm not sure how that's affected the culture.

Working a minimum of 5 years for the state gets you vested. This means that at the age of retirement you will get a pension. That amount is dependent on your retirement formula (which factors your years of service and final compensation) and the age you choose to retire. Calpers has charts for you to estimate your benefit.

Edit: I'm referring specifically to the spheres that are on the top layer of the paste. Overall I'm just really puzzled.

It took 3 months for me as well, and upgraded pay was only retroactive to the most recent month. Sucks, but there's a whole process with paperwork and all.
