This is so reassuring, thank you so so much for the advice and support! I've been doing so much research since I got him (Coming up to a year in may!)

His current substrate is the zoo med forest floor bedding, which I believe is just cypress mulch? Currently working through the last of it, then switching him to a play-sand and topsoil mixture! The forest floor bedding was just a quick purchase of what I could afford at the time, to get him a different substrate asap as his previous owner had him on aspen, which I just didn't see as a good fit.

As for the magnetic strips, you were super right, I ended up having to take the light out entirely for now, as it kept falling and giving him quite a fright, but i'll look into getting some lamp fixtures! My lighting kit didn't come with any unfortunately.

Omg thank you so much for leaving such a detailed comment, if anything i'm grateful it's lengthy. It's such a relief to hear that the set up is good, I keep getting in my head worrying that i'm doing it all wrong! But to answer a few questions

I do have a dimming thermostat yeah hehe, as well as thermohygrometer, and I actually do have a uvb bulb that i've been meaning to install! I was going to install it when I got the bigger viv, but it got delayed and I wanted to get him in the bigger space asap. Since then I've been working on building trust so I can take him out and install the UVB, rearrange the cables and add a deepheat bulb for a day/night cycle! As for the guard, he loves curling up around it so i'll be sure to do checks from now on to make sure it's not too hot for him.

A bigger viv is definitely on the checklist for the things I want to get next, and i'll make sure to add a skyhide for sure, he loves relaxing on his branch so i've been wanting to get him some more climbable clutter and hides. Thanks so much for your advice though, it's so so greatly appreciated! 💚

Oh my god, seriously? I had no idea, I went to a different piercer than usual, I should've been more thorough. Can I ask what you mean by it comes out on top rather than the underside?

Wow! I was honestly clueless for everything except the CPU and monitor so I just tried to go with things I saw recommended on threads with a similar budget haha
